What is it about the Red River Market that helps it stand out from the crowd? “It has become part of our community’s weekly ritual. Visitors tell us they meet their extended families at the market every week and their kids wake up on Saturdays asking if they can go to the market. We love being a part of your everyday lives,” Co-founder Simone Wai said. What improvements have you made to the Market since it first started? “In 2015 we started with only 10 vendors, and now we

Whether it is during an in-person sales transaction or feedback opportunities on social media, we genuinely want to hear what our patrons need so we can give them the best experience possible,” Executive Director Emily Beck said. What sets you apart? “The Fargo Theatre is a local business with deep roots in the community,” Beck said. “We’ve entertained generations of FM residents with innovative arts programming over 97

What improvements have you made to this attraction in the last year? “In 2023 we added a welcome center with an amazing mural to our main museum as well as completed several repair

What column of yours had the most impact this past year? “The columns I have written about the extremist laws that were passed by the North Dakota Legislature and signed by Governor Burgum,” Shaw said. “The legislation bans books, attacks and restricts the LQBTQ community, and is the toughest anti-abortion law in the nation. Even for women who have been raped.” You receive a lot of negative mail. Does it ever change your mind? “It doesn’t change my mind,” Shaw said. “Moreover, for every critical comment I receive, there are four wonderful

Following its call letters, KFGO has The Mighty 790 94.1 & 104.7 FM. It’s more than just a catchy phrase. “We were No. 1 before I got here and I’ve been here 19 years and we’ve been No. 1 every year since I got here,” Operations Manager Joel Heitkamp said. “So clearly people like it, and I think the recipe for KFGO is to be local. Local, local, local.” KFGO is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. Sustaining that run of excellence requires investments in staff and resources, with the focus always on its audience, Heitkamp said, noting that KFGO has seven people working

“I think it’s the long history that makes Chub’s great,” Lindgren said. “That makes it stand out. It’s one of the original bars in the Fargo area. I always call it like the old Cheers bar, where everybody knows your name. If they don’t know your name, they know your drink.”

Drekker Brewing Company is celebrating its ninth year in business and still innovating. The beer menu features almost two dozen ales, IPAs, porters, sours and a hard seltzer. In keeping with Drekker’s whimsical ways, these selections come with names such as Fangs Out, Super Freak, Tickle Monster, Techno Viking and Yabba Dabba PRRRT Now! Drekker’s five owners — Jesse Feigum, Mark Bjornstad, Mason Montplaisir, Darin Montplaisir and Tom Knowlton — all brought different backgrounds in fields such as marketing, science and engineering to the business and that wealth of experience has helped it flourish.
