Thank you – What a Year
Firstly may we wish you all a Happy New Year and thank you for your generosity and support over the last year and in particular Christmas period.

With your help our club collected in over 370 Shoeboxes filled with goodies, and these were then delivered to our district depot where over 18,000 boxes were packaged up and then delivered to the young children of Romania, Moldova, Montenegro, and Albania. Plus, this year the many displaced children from Ukraine, in Romania and Moldova, will also benefit.
You also gave extremely generously when we came visiting with Father Christmas and “Roger” his musical Steam Engine and again, we broke all previous records in collecting over £5,800 pounds, which will help us to continue a charitable work in the local area, nationally and internationally.
Meon Valley Lions
Generosity abound in the Meon Valley
With Santa and his Sleigh back out and about this year - the Meon Valley Lions Christmas Collection was hugely successful with over £6,200 raised and much joy spread around all corners of the Meon Valley. Many thanks to everyone who supported us.
The monies raised this year are to support children in our local schools, in receipt of free school meals, to participate in more breakfast / after school clubs and school outings / year end trips. This is being managed via the schools.
This year we have donated over £14,000 to charities and deserving causes: Locally we have helped many individuals in our local area who have fallen on hard times through our continuing support of the local food bank, plus those with specific one-off needs. We continued our annual support of Rotary Kids Out and Rotary Young Carers weekend both financially and as part of the teams supporting these two events. We also helped Wessex Heartbeat and have pledged to continue to help them with their work in support of those undergoing significant Heart procedures and in particular with the upkeep of Heartbeat House which provides a home from home for relatives of those undergoing treatment enabling them to stay nearby in support of their loved ones. Further afield we have helped with Rotary support for building temporary housing in war torn Ukraine ready for the harsh winter months. We provided emergency and rebuilding support following the Pakistan Floods and we have provided funds for Lendwithcare, with our loans now starting to be repaid making it possible for us to consider further projects.
We also financially support the work of Rotary International through its own charity Rotary Foundation and we continue to support Rotary’s on-going work to
….. But let’s not forget we also supported Age Concern, Homestart, MV Foodbank, East Meon Warm Hub, plus several individual requests for help with beds and white goods.
Support is here in these difficult times, please just ASK
When the temperature drops, the bills go up, putting a strain on household budgets, local Lions remain ready to support any individual or village group. In the past we have provided fridges, cookers, microwaves, beds and bedding, furniture, rugs, help with school uniforms, recliner chairs, mobility devices. We have supported Baby Banks, Foodbanks, Homestart, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Brownies, Guides, Youth Clubs, Football teams, Mens Sheds, Lunch Clubs, Residential Homes, Carers, Age Concern.
We help charities in our area supporting young families, the elderly, those with disabilities or learning difficulties, those recovering from strokes or cancer, support for eradicate Polio, which has seen the number of countries endemic with Polio drop to just two – we truly are so close!

Do you want to join a community choir but have concerns?
Many people would love to sing in a choir, and are put off by their own doubts. Maybe they can’t read music, or doubt the quality of their voice. Maybe they think they wouldn’t fit in; they’re too young, too old, too shy… If you want to join a choir and your concerns are stopping you, it’s worth brightening up your 2023 by investigating the popular Meon Voices Community Choir.
It’s a true community choir, which means there’s no need to audition and you don’t need to read music. Members come from many towns and villages around the area, so, if you’d love to sing, and are prepared to make a bit of effort, you will be warmly welcomed
Curtis Museum & Allen Gallery

A Hampshire art promoter is celebrating a decade in business by publishing a book that showcases many of its artists.
Creative Coverage in Locks Heath was established in 2013 by husband and wife team Tim and Caroline Saunders to handle marketing for selected artists and craftspeople. Members include Lynda Kettle, former Vice President of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, David Brammeld, a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and renowned photorealist painter Sarah Graham.
“Over the years we have introduced our members to galleries across the UK, organised exhibitions and generated much publicity for our members,” says co-founder Tim Saunders. “When we started this enterprise, daughter Harriett had only just been born. Since then she has been joined by Heidi and Henry. It’s very much a family business that has introduced us all to some fabulous artists. Unsurprisingly, our children are just as creative, if not more so, than Caroline and I. Harriett is now studying Sarah Graham at secondary school!”
Contemporary Artist 2023 published by Creative Coverage is available online and in all good bookshops and has been sent to some selected galleries.
