May Events at Butser Ancient Farm
From May to October, the Bishop’s Waltham Town Team will hold a monthly free exchange stall in St George’s Square. Like last year, each one will have a different theme. The concept is simple … you can give unwanted items. … for others to select and take. And you never know, you may find something useful to take home for free too! You do not have to give to take … you can give, you can take, or you can do both. This initiative is designed to recycle unwanted items and to reduce waste.
The dates and themes are: 28th May DIY and Gardening Tools and Equipment 25th June Holiday, Travel and Sports Items 30th July Children’s (under 11) toys, cloths, books etc 27th August Small household Items
Battle for Britannia - Saxons invade Butser Ancient Farm A spectacular weekend of re-enactments as invading Saxons clash with resident Romans and Celts to claim victory over the beautiful Butser Ancient Farm. At the end of the 4th century, the mighty Roman Empire that had conquered and ruled over swathes of British Isles for four hundred years was in its dying days. The legions were retreating, leaving the land open to be reclaimed by the native Britons. But in their wake, the Roman’s left the rich and fertile lands vulnerable to attack from an old enemy, raiding parties of Germanic warriors known as the Angles, Jutes and Saxons, a wave of invaders that would ultimately overcome the native inhabitants and any lingering Romano-Brits, and would become known to history as the mighty Anglo Saxons.
