Alresford Annual Community Litter pick Please join us to tidy our town and support the national ‘Great British Spring Clean’ on Saturday 22nd May from 10-12. To support social distancing we are happy to provide you with litter pickers, registration and safety advice in advance - please contact us on 01962 732079 or deputyclerk@newalresford-tc. gov.uk and we can deliver these to you.
Alternatively, litter grabbers, gloves and bags will be available from outside Alresford Recreation Centre from 10.00, and you will either be designated a patch to pick, or feel free to litter pick your favourite footpath or street. In accordance with government guidance, please come in groups of no more than 6 people or two households. We will be adhering to Covid 19 social distancing guidance. A complimentary hot drink from The Arlebury café will be available as a thank you for all your hard work. Please refer to our website for further information and updates on the litter pick.
Annual Meeting of the Council The Annual Meeting of the Council will be held virtually on Tuesday 4th May 2021 at 7.30 pm. At this meeting, Councillors will elect the Chair and Vice-chair and appoint committee members for the next municipal year. Details can be found on our website and the link to join the meeting via teams can be found on the agenda. Do please join us.
Parish in Bloom We have entered the South and South East Parish in Bloom competition which encourages people to take pride in their local environment. We’re hoping that the judging will be in person this year and will take place in either June or July. Alresford will be judged on our horticulture achievement – including our floral displays - environmental responsibility and community participation. We would be very grateful if local shops and businesses could support our entry by ensuring their frontage is as attractive and well-kept as possible.
Planters in Broad Street In response to comments from residents, we have purchased additional planters to replace the ineffective and unappealing plastic barriers for the pedestrianised area in Broad Street. The new curved designs complement the planters already in place and help to create an attractive and safe area in keeping with the aesthetics of the town. We are unable to remove all the plastic barriers as there needs to be designated entry and exit points for deliveries and the emergency services.
Hanging Baskets This year’s Hanging Basket and Trough Scheme were publicised in January. As in previous year’s, we will continue to pay the watering and maintenance of the floral displays from their arrival in time for the last May Bank holiday weekend until midOctober. Our thanks to all the householders and businesses who placed orders. We also fund the floral displays on the lamp posts and railings. We feel this scheme contributes to the overall attractiveness of such a historic but vibrant town.
Photo competition Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust are inviting entries for their Tales from the Riverbank photography competition. They would like to see images inspired by the chalk streams that feed the Rivers Test and Itchen and capture the unique qualities of these spaces. The competition has four categories including one for under 18s and closes on 31st August 2021. Please visit their website for further details. www.hiwwt.org. uk/winterbournes/tales/ photography
