THE 3 C'S OF EFFECTIVE COACHING

One of the essential aspects of a coaching relationship is whether or not the coachee is trusting and open with the coach. The 3 C's of E ective Coaching can help indicate whether or not two individuals can form a successful coaching relationship.

Commonality

Commonality refers to the coach and coachee sharing common characteristics or experiences. These characteristics often fall into three categories: demographics, professional, and personal. Demographics refer to the surface-level attributes often collected in surveys, such as race, ethnicity, gender, and age. Professional background includes education, professional training, and past work experiences. Personal background includes interests, hobbies, volunteer activities, and religion.

Compatibility

Compatibility refers to how a coach's and coachee's personalities align. This compatibility can include everything from personality traits to leadership and learning styles.

Credibility

Credibility refers to a coach possessing certain expertise that encourages their coachee to trust the coach's ability to coach them. As a manager, with most coachees being team members, a certain level of credibility will come from the manager/subordinate relationship.
