Crockpot Meatballs

Slightly spicy and slightly sweet, these meatballs are sure to please everyone on your team and serving them couldn’t be easier; just set up some team-themed toothpicks and let your guests do the work!

Ingredients

1 - 32 Ounce Package of Frozen Meatballs 1 - 18 Ounce Jar of Grape Jelly 1 - 18 Ounce Bottle of BBQ Sauce (You can use chili sauce instead if you like a bigger kick!)

Cayenne Pepper to Taste (optional)

Directions

Combine sauces in your crock-pot and stir until well blended, then add frozen meatballs and stir until coated. Turn your crockpot on high for 4 hours and serve!

Crockpot Beer-Cheese Dip

Tony Romo and The Cowboys, Johnny Football and The Aggies, Gary Patterson and The Horned Frogs are some of the greatest pairs in Texas football, yes, but are they as well paired as this final pair? Let’s hear it for beer and cheese! Two staples of any football party that are just so good apart, how could they not be even better together?!

Ingredients

½ cup dark beer (if you don’t have dark, then use light!) ¼ tsp tabasco (More if you need more spice!)

1 lb of block processed cheese (Velveeta), cubed

Directions

Put it all in the crockpot on high for about an hour (watch carefully), then turn it to low and it’s ready to go! Serve with apple slices, bread chunks, soft bread pretzels, or whatever sounds good with cheese…

On the second day of each month, Fossil Creek takes these necklaces to the patients and collects their names so that they can then be prayed for individually, by name. Other projects throughout the year, such as their Movie Night in the Spring, provide a way for the Fossil Creek family to interact with their community, while give back to those in need.

Interacting with the community in other ways is also important to the Richards Family. If you are going to Homecoming in Texas, then you better have a good crafter on retainer.

Because if it’s Texas Homecoming, you’ve gotta have Mums. A “Mum” is an extravagant, large, festive, colorful, and (for all intents and purposes) mandatory corsage given to one’s Homecoming date. The Mum may or not actually contain live Chrysanthemums, but the flower is the namesake for this essential Texas Homecoming adornment. While the specific origins of the tradition are unclear, the giving of a Mum corsage dates back to roughly the 1940’s and has been a traditional staple of Homecoming in Texas ever since. They are not only for the guys to give the gals, but that’s how the tradition started. Nowadays they can be given to friends, dates, to guys, to gals, etc; although the traditionally humongous ones are almost always traditionally given to just the ladies, and most often as a romantic gesture. Some Mum-givers utilize professionals who specialize in making these ornate and dazzling gifts and who have been doing so for decades. Other Mumgivers create the corsages themselves (or possibly delegate to Mom or Grandma, a friend, or another crafty individual), and sometimes groups of friends will create a unified team of Mums to give, or wear, together.

Often the Mum arrangements include at least one huge center “flower” (the bigger the better – we ARE after all talking about Texas) and multiple ribbons typically in the colors of the school they represent. Freshmen may only wear one “flower” while Sophomores may wear two, etc.

Options for personalizing the Mums include the addition of the school’s name or at least initials, the giver and/or recipient’s name, something representative of the sport in question, and perhaps a sentimental object such as a plush teddy bear. If it exists at the craft store, you can (ooh, idea!!) put it on a Mum. Limitless possibilities, plus limitless creative potential, mean that you can pretty much make a Mum that looks any way you can imagine! There are sometimes SEVERAL layers of bling, fluff, color, and what some might call an insane amount of sparkle – sometimes even active battery-powered twinkling lights. The main idea of these beautiful and incredible works of art is to inspire team spirit and unity among fans and players alike. These “corsages” can be as tall as the recipient, if not only a few inches shy of being so. If your date gives you a gigantic, spectacular, colorful Mum corsage then you are definitely in the higher echelons of importance, making the Mum an absolute lifetime keepsake for anyone who gets them.

If you aren’t lucky enough to be invited to Texas Homecoming, at least you can go watch the football games which inspire all the celebration and craftiness! Here’s the October schedule for our local High School Texas Football teams. Enjoy, and may the Mums be with you.

Soon the weather will be cooling, the leaves will be falling, spooks and ghouls will roam the streets, and Fort Worth will be gearing up for the Holiday season. This is a great opportunity to spend time with family and friends at local fall events and the metroplex offers a ton of these.

Christmas In Cowtown

Running October 15-17 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center this annual event has proven a staple of Fort Worth’s fall event line-up. This year’s event will feature over 200 merchants stretching 13 categories including jewelry, art, books, and toys, just to name a few.

The event’s organizers, the Junior League of Fort Worth, is a collection of women who seek to empower their community, and have been doing so for the past 86 years. The ambitious group touts three prominent goals on their website; promote voluntarism, impact the lives of women and children, and develop the potential of women. Clearly, the Junior League of Fort Worth has found a way to do just these things in its community by granting small businesses the opportunity to reach a wide audience through Christmas In Cowtown.

Harvest Stew Festival

On October 23 from 6pm to 8pm, the City of Keller will host its annual fall event at the city’s public library. For the 28th year in a row, the families of Keller will gather around to celebrate the harvest and socialize with one another. The event includes hayrides, a bounce house, costume contest, carnival games, petting zoo, and of course, warm stew. Admission is free but the City asks each person to bring one canned good to donate to the Community Storehouse.

Keller also hosts its own haunted house each year named Haunted Trails. The event takes place on Big Bear Greenbelt, and includes outdoor trails full of ghosts, witches, and other frightening creatures. A $5 entry fee also grants you a hayride back to the entrance.

Hall’s Pumpkin Farm

One of the great fall secrets in Tarrant County is Hall’s Pumpkin Farm in Grapevine. Each fall the family turns their farm into a fall celebration for other families to come be a part of. Hall’s offers an old fashion celebration, much different than your typical spooks and ghouls event.

The farm’s fall event features hayrides, a corn maze, concessions, and of course, pumpkins! The hayriders are hauled across the farm via tractor, and if you come at the right time you can be a part of animal feeding on your journey. The corn maze takes adventurers through 2 acres of 9 ft. tall corn stalks, and yes, it is open after dark! Concessions include smoked BBQ, kettle corn, as well as other vendors yet to be named.
