HOLIDAY NOTES The Amon Carter Museum of American Art (3501 Camp Bowie Blvd, Cultural District) presents John Marin: Modernism at Midcentury through Jan 8. Marin is one of America’s foremost modernists, and this special exhibition showcases more than 50 oils and watercolors from 1933 until Marin’s death in 1953.

For one night only, on Wed, Dec 21, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra will present Christmas with the Von Trapp Family Singers at Bass Performance Hall (525 Commerce St, downtown). Today the Von Trapp Family Singers, the actual great grandchildren of Maria and Captain von Trapp, continue the originators’ legacy, singing traditional American and Austrian songs of the season and sharing cherished family stories of the von Trapp family.

Every year the Gaylord Texan (1600 Gaylord Trail, Grapevine) offers a truly spectacular 14,000-square-foot ICE! exhibit and this year features DreamWorks’ Shrek the Halls, which will be open daily from Fri, Nov 11, to Mon, Jan 1, including holidays.

Grapevine’s Parade of Lights dazzles with 100 colorfully lighted floats passing through Historic Downtown Grapevine to festive holiday music provided by numerous marching bands. Rose Marine Theater (1440 N Main St, North Side) offers a Fort Worth premiere from Quiara Alegria Hudes, the writer of the Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights. 26 Miles is a tender family comedy about an American teenager and her estranged Cuban mother who drive cross-country in an ’83 Buick Regal. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is again offering extra wintry fun to complement Saturday morning screenings of The Polar Express: The IMAX Experience at the Omni Theater (1600 Gendy St, Cultural District). Near Southside

Near Southside progress attracts attention, big crowds Nearby Fairmount neighbors and visitors from across the region are flocking to Fort Worth’s Near Southside to enjoy a unique mix of eclectic dining, historic charm, and urban authenticity.

1 cup hot milk 1 ½ tsp sugar ¼ tsp vanilla extract 1 oz espresso or double-strength brewed coffee Combine and garnish each mug with whipped topping and a pinch of pumpkin pie spice.

Tea lover Amaretto Tea

6 oz hot tea 2 oz amaretto liqueur Add amaretto to hot tea, but do not stir, and top with chilled whipped cream.

Beer lover Black Velvet

Pour chilled sparkling wine into a champagne flute, filling half full. Top with an equal amount of chilled stout beer (such as Guinness Extra Stout). Enjoy!

Wine lover Cranberry Mulled Wine

1 cup red wine ½ cup water 4 tbsp mulling spices (i.e. cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg) ½ cup dried cranberries ¼ cup sugar ½ cup orange marmalade Simmer all ingredients together for 30 minutes.

Let cool and serve with cinnamon stick.
