Every second Thursday of the month, the Amon Carter Museum of Thursday American Art (3501 Camp Bowie Blvd, 817-738-1933) connects the public with art through cocktails and conversations with notable artists. From 5pm to 8pm, Second Thursdays at the Carter presents Anila Agha speaking about capturing light in her exhibition Anila Quayyum Agha: A Beautiful Despair.

Curator Shirley Reece-Hughes will also join the conversation to discuss her vision for the show, and the Jamal Mohamed Ensemble will perform. This event is free to attend, but reservations are required at CarterMuseum.org/Events.

Crockett Row at West 7th, in the heart of the Fort Worth Cultural District, will be closing the entire block of 2900 Crockett Street from noon to 4pm on Sunday, October 31, to host its annual “Monsters & Murals” Halloween Chalk Art Festival.

This free, outdoor Halloween community event is open to attendees of all ages and will feature live professional and amateur chalk artists, a kid’s activity area, food and drink specials, live entertainment, trick-or-treating, face painting, costume contest, festive décor, and more.

Amateur artists will be set up along Crockett Street creating custom pieces vying for attendees’ “votes” via cash donations. All proceeds will benefit The Art Station, a Fort Worth-based nonprofit offering individual and group art therapy and community programs to children and adults.

“This year’s ‘Monsters and Mural’ theme is our way of celebrating the

season in a family-friendly way, and we encourage people of all ages to come out and enjoy the afternoon,” said Sierra Tuthill, marketing director of Crockett Row at West 7th. “Our artists will be creating stunning chalk art in real-time throughout the afternoon surrounded by live music, activities for kids, and delicious food and drink specials.” In addition, many Crockett Row restaurants and shops will be offering free candy for trick-or-treaters.

For an immersive experience, head to Screams Halloween Park (2511 FM 66, Waxahachie, 972-938-3247). Located on the grounds of the Scarborough Renaissance Festival, Screams features five haunted houses, each with a different theme, including two new ones this season — Klownz in 3D and Times Up Maze. There’s also a haunted cemetery, games of skill, and live entertainment throughout the park.

After the parade, you might also want to check out the Dia de Los Muertos Celebration: Celebration of Life at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden (3220 Botanic Garden Blvd, 817-463-4160) from 3pm to

9pm. All day, you can view the ofrendas altar and leave a photo of someone you lost.

During the Childrens’ Afternoon (3pm5:30pm), there will be crafts, games, and photo ops with seasonal backdrops, plus food items, paletas, and pumpkins for sale in front of Rock Springs Cafe (3220 Rock Springs Rd, 817-366-1100). From 5:30pm to 9pm, it’s Adult Evening time at the Botanic Garden, featuring live music by the TCU Mariachi Band, Folklorico dance performances, and drink tastings, plus there will be a cash bar and food available for purchase from Rock Springs Cafe. At 7:30pm, see a screening of Tim Burton’s 1988 dark comedy Beetlejuice on Thursday the lawn of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (3200 Darnell St, 817-840-2170). While optional, costumes that are family-friendly and non-obstructive — and with no props that could be mistaken for weapons — are encouraged. A cash bar will be available, and Cafe Modern will be selling noshes, including apple cider beignets, mulled hot cider, house-made pan de muerto with cheese and sausage, and pretzels with local IPA beer cheese.
