Meet Joe the Active Adult Program Leader What do you think the seniors get out of the program?

One of the top things is it brings our seniors together and gives them the opportunity to meet new people and share their stories. They have formed new friendships that they otherwise wouldn’t have. Some have gotten together outside of the program to go to movies, go shopping, and have a nice conversation over the phone. It gives seniors a place to go and feel safe.

What do you enjoy about working here?

I love to give back to the seniors. It feels really good to be able to say I work for the Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District and it’s a meaningful position. It’s great to hear from everyone.

“I enjoy playing the games, and interacting with other happy smiley people.” “Senior activity group rocks.”

Zumba® Gold

Senior Stretch

Zumba Gold® is for active older adults who are looking for a modified Zumba® class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity.

We begin with simple stretches from head to toe that includes balance work to prevent falls. After stretching we use free weights for bone strengthening and the prevention of muscle mass loss. I supply the weights, but you may bring your own. We then move to non-partner dances that I have choreographed. This is the fun part of the class that keeps your brain constantly working. The class ends with five minutes of floor work to strengthen your core and abs. I use a wide variety of music during the class. Ages: 55+ Punch Card: $9 for 4 classes Location: Community Clubhouse

The design of the class introduces easy-to-follow Zumba® choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. Come ready to sweat, and prepare to leave empowered and feeling strong.

Classes focus on all elements of fitness: cardiovascular, muscular conditioning, flexibility, and balance! Ages: 18+ Punch Card: $25 ($20 res) for 8 Classes Material Fee: $20 for 1lb (Optional) Location: Community Clubhouse M, W, F
