FIRED UP FOR READING WINNERS
The Get Fired Up for Reading program was a big success, with Forney ISD students reading over 4.6 million minutes in eight weeks. In partnership with the Forney Fire Department, Forney Education Foundation, and sponsors like Walmart, Atmos Energy, Buttermilk Sky Pie, and Nothing Bundt Cakes, the program encouraged students in grades 1–12 to read through fun incentives. Prizes included firetruck rides, lunch with firefighters, gift cards, and bikes—thanks to Walmart for providing the grand prize bicycles. Congrats to our grand prize winners: Jessica, Zachary, Aurora, Jaden, Zoe, David, Bella, Savannah, Jackson, Makinley, and Aiden.
COUNCIL TAKES NEXT STEP IN DEVELOPING EMS SERVICES
During the March 18, 2025 meeting, the Forney City Council received a presentation from Fitch & Associates on emergency medical services in the city, covering response times, ambulance locations, and service level costs. Following the presentation, the Council directed staff to begin developing a scope of services for a potential R th input from Fitch & Associates. This p ormation of a subcommittee at a la velopment of the RFP.
PUMP STATION 2 REPAIRS
City Council authorized staff to seek vendors for repairs at Pump Station 2. The work includes replacing aging gaskets and installing shields near motors to prevent future issues. Following power surges in late 2024 and early 2025 that damaged equipment, a thorough investigation led to an agreed plan between the consultant and vendors to address the problems and prevent future failures. These repairs will help maintain and improve water service.
COUNCIL APPROVES REZONING TO PLANNED DEVELOPMENT OVERLAY DISTRICT
Council approved an ordinance rezoning approximately 13.997 acres from Mixed Use District to Planned Development Overlay District. The property, currently vacant and undeveloped, is located south of U.S. Highway 80 and east of the area zoned under Planned Development Ordinance 20-31, with access provided by the U.S. Highway 80 service road. The rezoning adds the property to the adjacent Blue Ladder Planned Development and applies the same development standards established by Ordinance 20-31, originally approved by City Council on August 18, 2020. The primary intended use for the property is a data center.
