Swim & Dive Facilities at Forest Hills

After a recommendation by the Swim Committee in 2013, the Board approved that the Forest Hills swimming facility be named the Kevin Brennan Aquatic Center– commemorating Kevin’s 35 years of service to the Club. In 2018, Kevin was named an honaorary citizen of Clarkson Valley. 2023 will mark his 45th season.

Coach Kevin is excited to kick off the 2023 season and welcomes all returning and new swimmers!

Philosophy of the Forest Hills Swim & Diving Team

We’re so happy you’ve chosen to join the Forest Hills Swim & Diving Teams. We feel it is important to share with you the philosophy of the teams.

Over the last few years, the number of Forest Hills swim team members has exceeded 150 participants, which is much larger than most area country club swim teams. Our head swim coach, Kevin Brennan, makes every effort to accommodate these numbers, with the two different swim leagues: the Country Club Swim League and the West County Swim League. Kevin makes the determination as to which league is appropriate for each swimmer based on the swimmer’s abilities and swim times.

The Country Club Swim League

This is the most competitive of the two leagues. At these meets, the strongest swimmers will be competing. This will also hold true for the end of season Country Club Swim League Conference meet.

The West County Swim League

This is a developmental league designed to improve the abilities of all of our swimmers, as well as get them comfortable and ready for a more competitive swim environment.

The individual and team successes of these leagues can be seen in last year’s final numbers: Forest Hills placed 2nd in the West County League and 1st in the Country Club League. All children were eligible to swim at a conference meet, most 2 or 3 times, and approximately 95% of those who swam received a plaque reflecting their achievement.

Our experience has been that the children enjoy the Forest Hills Swim Team for exactly what we intend it to be: a positive athletic and social activity for the swimmer, where they can learn new skills and make new friends. Our hope is that, as parents, you will support our efforts and the efforts of the children, bringing about an esprit de corps for this year’s teams, creating memories that last a lifetime.

Code of Conduct

While attending the swim team functions, including home and away meets, and especially the buffets and parties following the home meets, please be mindful of the behavior of your children.

To quote from the Club Rules:

It is the responsibility of the Member or spouse to ensure that their children or the children of their guests are behaving in an acceptable manner when participating in Club events, in the dining facilities/Café, or using Club amenities.

Unacceptable behavior would include, but not limited to; excessive noise, rowdy activities, disrespect to others, offensive language, or misuse of Club property.

We would like to emphasize that the golf course and all tennis courts are off-limits during these functions. This includes hole #9, the putting green and the driving range.

Please keep in mind that you are responsible for the behavior of your children, and their actions are a reflection of our Club. Participation Fee

The 2023 fee for participation on swim team will be $140 per swimmer. All swimmers will receive a t-shirt and trophy.

Swim Apparel & Embroidery

Swim apparel can be purchased at B & B Aquatics, and can also be purchased at the Junior Sports Expo on Sunday, April 16th at the Club.

If you would like your child’s swimsuit embroidered, you must order it at the Junior Sports Expo on April 16th or go into B&B Aquatics by this date. Swimsuits may still be ordered after this date; however, the deadline for guaranteed embroidery will be Sunday, April 16th.

Page 6
B & B Aquatics is located at 1747 Clarkson Road and can be reached by phone at (636) 519-7946.

Dress Code

When at the pool, Café or attending swim meets, the Club’s dress code as outlined in the Club Rules applies. Swim cover-ups must be worn by everyone when leaving the pool and Café area.

Swim apparel can be purchased at B & B Aquatics. We encourage the swimmers to wear the team suit to all meets and for the team photo. For longer lasting suits, rinse suits in cold water and hang to dry. Caps should also be rinsed, towel dried and a small amount of baby powder should be applied inside and out. Other Forest Hills sportswear is available for purchase but is strictly optional.

Locker Rooms

The Swim Locker Rooms are available for use before and during the swim meets. Children under the age of sixteen (16) years are not permitted in the Men’s or Ladies’ Locker Rooms unless accompanied by an adult over the age of eighteen (18). Children of the opposite sex are not permitted in locker rooms if over the age of five (5).

Team Pictures

Team and individual pictures will be taken at the pool. This will be in lieu of practice and will be held rain or shine. Your child should wear the team swim suit. Picture packages will be paid for when the pictures are taken and given out at the end-of-the-season banquet.

Time Trials

All swimmers except Munchkins are encouraged to attend time trials. This is an opportunity for swimmers to hone their skills and prepare for the next meet. Time trials are scheduled for the following Saturdays at the Forest Hills pool beginning at 8:30 am:

June 3

June 10

June 24

July 1

Meet Information

Meets held during the week start at 6:00 pm; the swimmers should be ready to warm-up by 5:45 pm. Meets held on Saturday mornings begin at 8:30 am; swimmers should be ready to warm-up at 8:00 am. The meets last approximately two hours. Munchkins swim all meets, home and away, except the three Conference finals.

The day of each meet, Coach Kevin will post the swimmers for the meet on the pool bulletin board. Your child may not swim at every meet, so be sure to read the posting as soon as possible. Relays swim at the end of the individual races.

Coach Kevin needs to know, in writing, the dates that your children will not be available to participate in a swim meet. It is a good idea to provide this information to him at the beginning of the season. Please review the schedule included in this manual and let Coach Kevin know as soon as possible the dates your child is not available. Giving the coach as much notice as possible will ensure that everyone on the team gets the most possible swim time.

After evening home meets, the Club offers a fun family buffet on the lower patio. Charges for these dinners will be reflected on your monthly statements. Many of the other clubs also offer similar arrangements and Forest Hills members are welcome to attend. Your charges at other clubs will be sent back to Forest Hills and appear on your monthly billing statement. Be sure to write Forest Hills on the tickets you sign and neatly print your name and Club number. The attire for the parents at the meets is country club casual.

Every effort is made to swim a meet as scheduled, given the short length of our season. The start of a meet may be delayed but rarely are swim meets canceled. Normally, a meet would only be canceled if lightning was present at the hosting pool. In the event of inclement weather, the coaches will not decide to cancel a meet until 7:00 pm. If a meet has been canceled, an email will be delivered to the entire swim team.

The end-of-season Conference Meets are held the last weekend of the swim team season. There will be extra practices scheduled before the Conference Meets with the final practice culminating in a surprise entrance by Coach Kevin. Be sure to not miss this practice and bring your camera!

Page 8

The Swim Team Banquet is held at Forest Hills the Wednesday after all the Conference Meets. At the banquet, the coaches will give a presentation and hand out team awards. Following the awards ceremony, there will be dancing and DJ entertainment. This is a fun evening for both parents and children who participated in the Swim Team Program. Be sure to sign up on ForeTees in advance if planning to attend.

The Dive Team practices are in conjunction with the Swim Team practices. They are scheduled so that children can participate on both the dive and the swim teams. Prior to each meet, the coach will post a roster of divers on the diving bulletin board. Your child may not dive at every meet so be sure to read the posting before each meet. Diving meets are held prior to swim meets and begin at 5:00 pm. Divers should arrive at 4:30 pm.

The coach would like to know, in writing, the dates that your children will not be available to participate in a dive meet. It is a good idea to provide this information to him at the beginning of the season. Giving the coach as much notice as possible will ensure that everyone on the team gets the most possible dive time.

Every effort is made to dive a meet as scheduled, given the short length of our season. The start of a meet may be delayed but rarely are dive meets canceled. Normally, a meet would only be canceled if lightning was present at the hosting pool. In the event of inclement weather, the coaches will not decide to cancel a meet until 7:00 pm. If a meet has been canceled, a blast email will be delivered to the entire swim team.

The end-of-season Conference Meet is held the last Friday of the dive team season, which will be held on Friday, July 7th.

The Swim & Dive Team Banquet is held at Forest Hills the Wednesday after all the conference meets, which will be on Wednesday, July 12th. At the banquet, the coaches will give a presentation and present team awards. After the awards are given out, there will be dancing to a DJ. This is a fun evening for both parents and children who participated in the Dive Team Program. Be sure to make reservations to attend.
