FOREST GREEN V SOUTHEND

From first footballing memory to something the team
doesn’t know about you, get to know
Forest Green Rovers
Women versatile fullback, Jemima Guise.
First footballing memory?
I would have to say probably the first training session that I ever did. Also, scoring a hat-trick in my first games playing down at my local park.
Favourite memory at Forest Green?
That would definitely be scoring on my first hat-trick on my full debut for the club.
Favourite pre-match song?
I really like to listen to ‘Forbidden Feelings’ by The Archives.
Something your teammates don’t know about you?
That’s a good question. I would probably say that I have a pet Labrador. They don’t know that.
How long have you played football?
I have been playing football since I was five years old. That must be, let me think, about 12 years I think.
Dream job outside of football?
It would probably have to be, I’d love to work in something like A&E. Be like I’m in an episode of ’24 hours in A&E’.
Favourite teammate?
I get on well with Martha Campbell.
Favourite place you’ve been?
I’ve been to Vancouver in Canada. It would have to be there.
Forest Green Rovers welcome Southend United to The New Lawn ahead of our National League clash.
When the two sides met back on a rather stormy day in November and after goals from Harvey Bunker and Christian Doidge, we shared the points in a 2-2 with the Shrimpers
It’s the fourth ever meeting between the two sides and it’s the Shrimpers first visit to Nailsworth since 2021 when Rovers were defeated 3-1.
They have a enjoyed a battling season up towards the top and currently sit ninth in the National League, three points off the playoffs.
An impressive run of seven games without defeat has greeted the Essex side with victories over Altrincham, Aldershot Town and FC Halifax Town.
Away form has been strong having only suffered just one defeat in their last five on the road.
Manager, Kevin Maher, still enjoying his first managerial role, has been with the club since 2021.
The 48-year-old has managed over 160 games for the Shrimpers seeing almost 70 victories in that time.
Since taking over the helm the club, Maher has guided the Shrimpers to a 13th, eighth and ninth place finish in his first three seasons.
The Shrimpers have fired home 46 goals in the league with a large proportion of them being scored by right back, Gus ScottMorriss.
The full-back is the club’s top scorer and the league’s joint fourth top scorer with 15 goals in 35 appearances.
The 27-year-old is in fine form heading into Saturday’s clash having netted five times in his last 10 games.
Following their trip to Nailsworth, Southend are on the road for successive trips to face Eastleigh on the south coast before travelling to Lincolnshire to face Boston United.
Following a meeting held in the Blue Boar Public House on May 19th, 1906, It is well documented that Southend United were formed at this meeting convened by landlord Oliver Trigg and a band of fellow enthusiasts.
The crest is a ship’s mast in a mural crown for the historic port of Leigh-on-Sea and the mural crown represents a city wall. The supporters are medieval fishermen and a Cluniac monk. These together with the motto are suggesting the original growth of the town.
Opened in 1955, Roots Hall is an all-seated ground with a maximum capacity of 12,392. Upon the outbreak of the First World War, Southend were forced out of the original site of the stadium as it was designated for storage purposes.
