10 Minutes with McCormick

Building his ideal player from teammates at FGR, who he would call on a million-pound question and his dream five-aside from his career, we caught up with Luke McCormick ahead of clash with Woking.

Build your ideal player using teammates at Forest Green?

Left foot, Jamie Robson. Right foot, Liam Sercombe. Technique, Adam May. Passing, Cian Harries. Engine, Emmanuel Osadebe. Dribbling, Kyle McAllister.

Build your best five-a-side team with players you’ve played with?

I’ll start with Ryan Barnett in defence; he’s currently at Wrexham and really good friend of mine.

Next would be Mason Mount, Scott Sinclair, then of course me because I’d want to have a game with these lads!

To finish it would have to be Eden Hazard up

Who would you call if….

You needed a lift to training?

Probably Harvey Bunker because he’s a Portsmouth boy as well.

You needed to go for a run?

Marcel Lavinier.

You had a flat tyre?

Cian Harries.

You needed cheering up?

Ben Tozer.

You needed someone to cook for you?

Ryan Inniss.

You wanted to go out for a meal?

That’s a good one as I’m still quite fresh here. Christian Doidge probably, he’d have some good stories.

You needed fashion advice?

Tyrese Omotoye has some good gear actually, so I’d say Tyrese.

You wanted to go for coffee?

Ben Tozer.

You needed to call a friend on ‘Who wants to be a millionaire’?

Oh wow. That would be Adam May.

Forest Green Rovers welcome Maidenhead United to The New Lawn for the first time since 2010.

Maidenhead last visited Nailsworth in an FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie in which Rovers came away 1-0 winners thanks to a Reece Styche goal. That was also the first ever meeting between the two sides.

On Rovers’ maiden trip to York Road, goals from Harvey Bunker, Charlie McCann, Jordan Moore-Taylor and Teddy Jenks saw Rovers run out 4-1 winners.

Since then, Maidenhead have been battling out in the bottom half of the table bouncing in and out of the relegation zone.

But some important results have come the Berkshire-based sides way seeing memorable wins against Oldham Athletic, Southend United and fellow strugglers AFC Fylde.

Maidenhead might be coming up against the best defence in the league in Rovers, but the Magpies have kept three clean sheets in their last five games in all competitions, too.

The Magpies also host one of the longest serving managers in Alan Devonshire who, in his second spell with the club, has been at the club since 2015

Devonshire has managed over 350 games for the Magpies seeing over 100 wins during that time.

Goals have been hard to come by for Maidenhead this season but a player with an eye for attack has been forward, Tristan Abrahams.

Abrahams has been the Magpies most prolific players this season hitting double figures for goals and assists (14) in over 30 appearances this season

Rovers will also be welcoming back forward Shawn McCoulsky who arrived at The New Lawn from Bristol City in 2019.

McCoulsky went on to make 26 appearances for Rovers during his two-year stay whilst heading out on loan to Bromley during that time.

Following their trip to Nailsworth, Maidenhead return for back-to-back games at York Road as they face Braintree Town and Sutton United.

Established

Founded in 1870, Maidenhead United FC is one of the oldest football clubs in England. The origins of senior football in Maidenhead can be traced back to October 1870 with the formation of Maidenhead Football Club, who subsequently played their first-ever fixture on December 17th, 1870 against Windsor Home Park at Bond’s Meadow near Maidenhead Bridge.

Crest

Maidenhead United launched a new club crest in 2020 to mark the 150th anniversary of the football club. The process of designing a new club crest started back in October 2019 with an open meeting for all supporters at the club following a home match. As a result of that meeting, an online survey was then drawn up to give our followers the opportunity to have their say on the key themes.

Stadium

On Thursday, February 16th, 1871, the club played their first game on the York Road site against Marlow. This ground, which was then shared with the cricket club, is now officially acknowledged as the oldest continually used football ground by the same club.
