Nestled in the rolling hills of central Texas, just a few miles due south of the famed Camp Longhorn, lies a beautiful oasis named Camp Buckner. This special camp is a faith-based nonprofit that serves vulnerable children, families and seniors and was the perfect partner for the second year of Camp Erin DFW, the family grief camp created in conjunction with the Children’s Bereavement Program at Faith Presbyterian Hospice. Statistics show one out of every nine children go hungry each day, but Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is dedicated to turning this hunger into hope. As a Christian nonprofit organization, FMSC works with food distribution partners to provide MannaPack® meals to 90 countries around the globe, allowing children to grow, thrive and develop to their full potential.
Presbyterian Village North (PVN) residents had the opportunity to learn more about the mission of FMSC on Tuesday, June 6, during an informational meeting held on the PVN campus. The meeting, facilitated by Hillary Coyle, FMSC Development Advisor and daughter of PVN residents Susan and Corbet Bryant, and Andy Albertini, FMSC Regional Manufacturing Manager, provided an overview of the organization’s mission and the volunteer opportunities available locally. The original healthcare building on the Presbyterian Village North campus was constructed out of the desire to provide excellent care for residents and the community.

This year at Camp Erin DFW we followed one of our veteran campers, Sarina Desai, and her father, Nipun, to provide a better glimpse into what goes on at camp.
Shadowing them throughout the weekend shed light on how Camp Erin DFW, and the other programs offered by the Child Life professionals at Faith Presbyterian Hospice, have helped Sarina as she works through her grief from losing her mother unexpectedly a year-and-a-half ago.

Make plans to join the Faithful Friends group on Thursday, July 27, at 6:30 p.m. for their next gathering. This event will be held at the Marnie and Kern Wildenthal Center located on the T. Boone Pickens Hospice Center campus and will continue the series on Understanding Grief For All Ages. As the third event in the series, it will focus on Adult Grief and will be facilitated by Binu Matthews, Bereavement Manager at Faith Presbyterian Hospice.

On Friday, June 23, VIPs from The Outlook at Windhaven (OAW) congregated at Plano’s Carpenter Park Recreation Center for an inside look into the future of wellness at OAW.
