SPIFF MADE IT When did you realize this was your dream?

Six years ago, I fed my love for fashion by designing my own unique style of clothing. I realized designing clothes was a skill set I could master, so I learned how to sew. I received numerous compliments on clothes I had altered. Within weeks my vision became a reality. Some doubted me, but I proved them wrong, becoming more and more creative.

What is unique about you that enables your services to be different than others?

I love fashion. I have an eye for it. My designs are not just clothes, they create a lifestyle. They foster confidence.

They are original and 100% made from scratch. I manifest clothing pieces not found in stores, but envisioned by my customers. I am not afraid to think out of the box and use those crazy fabric patterns either.

How long have you actively pursued your craft?

I started six years ago initially with screen printing, but shortly after I pursued sewing. I enjoy sewing more than screen printing, but I continue to do both. Once I learn the basics of sewing, it’s was not difficult to learn how to design different pieces of clothing.

What finally convinced you to go for it?

My interests began to deepen as I devoted more time to it.

I began looking up other designers, typically those around my age, and they influenced me. To see so many young individuals not only hustling, but doing it by themselves, and being their own boss is amazing. The compliments I received were amazing. My mother plays a big role as well.

She has her own business (Tamu Cupcakery), and her relentless drive, devotion, and daily words of encouragement is everything and more. I found something I was skilled at, which graduated from sewing in my spare time for fun to sewing and making a profit. I am absolutely loving the smiles from a customer as they try on a ‘Spiff Made It’ original piece. I found my passion!

What is the first step that you took to kick off your busi-

ness/services?

A good friend, Onel, actually helped- whether he believes it or not. I changed the name twice before sticking with Spiff Made It. He helped with that tremendously! He was the first paying customer I designed a shirt for, and the first person I hand painted shoes for. He would walk around [in my designs], and when people asked him where he got it from, he’d say “Spiff Made It”. That’s when it dawned on me that that’s what I wanted my clothing line to be called. Once I got the name, I made the Facebook page. Facebook has been good, but I believe Instagram is really where it’s at (in regards to being recognized worldwide quicker). So, making those social sites, and word of mouth through friends and family, were the first steps.

What are the perks of being your own boss?

Everything I just mentioned above basically. Doing things on my own schedule is great. Most customers give me the freedom of creating whatever I put my mind to, which is the best feeling. I love not having to seek approval from anyone. From the sizes, to what type of clothing, to the artwork, to the choice of fabric... It’s all the freedom of expression and creativity through Spiff.

What is the best advice you can give someone who wants to start their own business?

Perfect your skill, check your credit, get a mentor in that field, and make sure you love what you do. Remain committed and dedicated, and do not give up! Promote yourself nonstop. Branding! Learn quickly that every fail is not failure, and that nobody actually succeeds on their first, second, or maybe even the third attempt anyway. You’ll make mistakes, LEARN from them! Every time I talked to him, he sounded like he was one hit away from being the biggest artist in the world and couldn’t nobody fuck with him. Every time you talk to him... “They can’t fuck with me, they can’t fuck with your bro, they can’t fuck with me.” Rip to Greatness.” - Boston George New Orleans rapper and Cash Money signee Young Greatness, real name Theodore Jones, was fatally shot early Monday morning outside of a Waffle House. He was 34.

Young Greatness was best known for his 2015 hit “Moolah,” which was released by Atlanta’s Quality Control Records, current home to the Migos and Lil Yachty. The record was produced by Jazze Pha. New Orleans authorities have not yet released any further details about the shooting.

While Young Greatness was from New Orleans, he relocated to Houston in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

It was there that he found early success, attracting the attention of local heroes like Mike Jones and Bun B. After the success of “Moolah,” Young Greatness signed with New Orleans’ record label, Cash Money, under the tutelage of Brian “Birdman” Williams.

“The first time I heard him, I knew he was going to be big,” Birdman said in a statement released after Young Greatness’ signing. “He’s got a grasp of melody that few artists have. It’s the sound of the future.”

“I always was melodic because that’s how I came up — second line music, we sing,” he told Rolling Stone in 2016. “That was already instilled into me. … We used to go so much to where I was the child in my household that started rebelling on going to the second line.”

Tell me a little bit about yourself, your personality.

One thing I can say about myself is I’m highly confident.

I think that’s one of the things that really draws a lot of people to me, my confidence.

And where do you draw that confidence from?

It’s very personal but I will share. All my life I’ve always been judged on my size. Especially by my mother. And you know that’s supposed to be, you know, my mom. And all of my life she’s made me feel like being fat was ugly but I always knew personally, I’m pretty.

You don’t have to be skinny to be pretty.

How do you help someone embrace their size and embrace their beauty?

At the end of the day, if you’re comfortable with your weight, that’s all that matters. Because at the end of the day, at this size, I can find a man, I can still do everything everyone can do. Don’t lose weight because of someone else’s opinion that you’re not pretty. If you’re gonna do it, do it for your health.

Tell me a little bit about your life, give me a sense of who you are.

I’m a very old soul. That’s basically how I was raised. I’m Haitian, so we’re accustomed to old fashion ways, old school principles. I got married at 19, my parents were pretty upset about that. But you know, it’s been a year now, he’s not going anywhere, they’ll just have to get over it. I was born in Ft Lauderdale but moved to Turks and did a little schooling over there in Turk & Caicos Islands.

That’s where my mother lives. My father is still in Haiti.

Even though I’m a State’s baby I still know the struggle and how it is to live in Haiti, been there, and I went to school in Turks so I know how it is and it grew me to be really responsible and really appreciate the things I’m offered here and why it’s so good to live here.

And how do you translate that into your music?

By letting everyone know that there’s nothing that you can’t do. Watching how my parents came from nothing and build into something. That opened my eyes that, if you’re not successful, not to be rude, it’s because you don’t want to be successful. Because everyone is given an opportunity, it’s just what you choose to do with it. Like, at first I didn’t think I could be a rapper, but slowly I kept doing it and kept trying it trying trying it, and now you can put on a beat and I can write a whole song in 5 minutes, with pen and paper, not off the top.

How did you choose that art form to express your creativity?

My favorite subject in school was English. Because I loved to talk. Anytime there were any presentations in school, I always wanted to present. Anytime it had anything to do with poetry. Writing was my thing. At first, it started off with poetry and then I learned that rap is just a sort of poetry, you just gotta know how to flow with it, rhyme, and it just comes naturally.

What is your goal with music?

I don’t know where I see myself going with music, it’s something I really enjoy doing. And I don’t plan on making it and using this as a career, but I just know I’m not gonna stop.

So what are you looking to do as a career?

I honestly just wanna live the most humble life as possible. I don’t care for the fame. I want to be successful, but as far as the fame and living like Cardi B and Nicki Minaj, I really don’t care for it. Because I’m kind of a personal person, I don’t like to be all out there. I’d rather the fortune, not the fame.

Is the goal to remain independent or are you chasing a deal?

Chasing a bag.

So if at 7 you’re seeing the same thing you would see at 18. Coming from the trenches, I feel smarter than the city niggas because growing up I saw it all. You’re in the streets, you’re just in them.

And I know you just dropped a project with Iceberg. Tell me how that came about.

Sitting here with Suppa Shotta, the name alone tells me you’re about that life. That tells me a lot about your music as well.

Well, I come straight from the streets so when you tune in to me, you tune in for that street, that Boosie, that Plies, that Webbie.

But it’s Shotta Suppa you know, I got my own swag.

Well, I’ve been rapping since 8 or 9. Pretty much ever since I knew how to put words together. I just did it around my neighborhood.

The old neighborhood days, when everybody would come around, I would be the jitterbug freestyling on the mic. My momma, she allowed me to curse, so all the grown people, the gangsters they would vibe. That was back in Labelle in 98, 99 all through the 2000s.

I said your name wrong...

It’s all good, really ain’t no correct way. They call me Suppa. And my aunties, the older people they call me Shotta.

So Suppa, if you were a superhero, what would be your super power?

My superpower would be to be able to tell how you feeling. The moment I see you, I know how you feeling no matter how your face looks.

We’re separated from everything.

We only have 10 streets. And when I say 10 streets, I mean the hood, we only have 10 streets.

How does coming from a city that small reflect in your music?

Since it’s so small, nothing is hidden. Everything is in your face.

I was at Studio 500, shout out to Syd, HD, Knowledge, Passaround. & my boy Richard. My boy told me Iceberg was going to be in town the following day. It sounded like a good opportunity for me, so I took it. I already had my session scheduled and while recording, Headcoach, he was fucking with the song that I was doing. So they came in, I didn’t have a certain song for him or anything, I played about 3 songs for him and he chose to jump on “Sum bout the money.”

And you just dropped the video to that correct? How’s that doing?

The video is doing pretty good.

About 71k views in a month. Just based on my own promotion.

That’s not bad at all for an artist who’s pushing themselves. Is the goal to remain independent or are you chasing a deal?

Chasing a bag. I’m the deal. I ain’t rich but I got the money. I can do for myself what a label can do.

From first glance at your name, Megan Thee Stallion, one would assume you did modeling, would that be correct?

When I was younger, I did do a little modeling. It’s crazy because my mom and my dad thought I was gonna be like a Victoria Secret model coz that’s something I really wanted to do when I was growing up. But my mom was a rapper, so when I saw her rapping and going hard, and the type of music I was listening to, I was like I definitely wanna do this. So I just ran with the name.

Tell me a little bit about your life growing up.

Growing up, my mom and my dad would have me listening to UGK, Three6 Mafia, just a lot of rough, hard music. And watching my mom go to the studio, I would be in there with her all night. So she would think that I was probably there sleep or doing whatever kids would be doing, but I was literally in there listening to what she was in there doing. I learned a lot of studio etiquette from her, just watching her write, just learning my own craft, my own style. Watching her put the time and the work in, I feel like that’s where I got it from.

Do you feel like that gave you the upper hand when it comes to the rap game, being that you had somewhat of an apprenticeship?

I feel like however much work you put into something your results are going to equal to that. So I never thought like I had an upper hand, I just saw it as my mom was going hard so I’m thinking that’s what every body’s doing. I didn’t know anything different. I’m just assuming everybody’s going hard. But looking back at it now, I guess I did have the upper hand with seeing somebody do things a certain way.

Starting from a young age, watching your mom in the studio, at what point did you decide that’s what you wanted to do for yourself?

I was probably 7, and my mom had bought me a Barbie tape recorder thing and said I could record my voice on it. It had 4 or 5 different instrumentals on it.

It didn’t even sound like regular little kid music. I don’t even know what Barbie was going through but I took it to my mom’s room and was like listen to this mama, and started rapping and she was like “wow Megan, that’s good!”

In my mind I was going hard, I didn’t bring it back to her again until I was like 18, and I would be stealing my mom’s instrumentals.

Back then we didn’t have YouTube yet, so we just had CDs with all the instrumentals on them,

DJs used to hand them out. I was stealing them from her and she would be like “Meg have you seen my CDs with my instrumentals?”

And I would be like “Nah I don’t know where they at.” Finally, I just came to her and was like “Mama you gotta listen to this.” and she was like “Nah you’re not coming out till you 21.” And that’s where we at with it right now. You now have Megan Thee Stallion.

Now present day, tell me how 2018 has been for your music career, you just dropped a track with Moneybagg Yo, how did that come about?

2018 I got signed to 1501 Certified, it’s an independent label. And I got with them, we immediately started working on my mixtape Tina Snow, they asked if I could have a collab with anyone, who would you want to have a collab with right now?

And Moneybagg Yo is one of my favorite rappers of this generation so I said I definitely would want to collab with him. I heard the track, Moneybagg had put his verse on it and I just went on there and put the hook and the verse on it and that was that. Then he came out here and shot the video. We went

to the club later that night, it was realize we’re in the same field but lit, it was fun, a really good process. we’re not doing the same thing, and we’re not rapping alike. When In the music industry, when a people understand the spotlight male artist come out everyone just can be shared, coz we’re not in the accepts them. But when a female same lane, I feel like everything can artist comes out, she’s pinned go real smooth. But I haven’t ran against the other women for that into anything so far where anybody number one spot. How did you get started in music?

I want to say Cypress Lake Middle, beatboxing on the table with a pencil, everybody getting in a group rapping.

That’s how it got started, took off from there.

What’s the first rhyme you remember putting together?

I couldn’t tell you honestly. I did some time so I didn’t take it seriously until I was sitting in a cell by myself and started writing really.

A lot of people in music are influenced by having done time.

Take me through that process of deciding this was the route to take.

Really, that wasn’t until recently. Honestly, until I did Pure239, shout out to Pure239.

We did a video and I really started taking my craft to a higher level. Even tho I’ve put out music before, it was like I’m getting so much good feedback towards what I’m doing that I might as well do it 100%.

Tell me about your music, what’s the vibe?

I’m anywhere between Pit Bull to T.I. I like to put myself right in there, that type of vibe. Hispanic but really on some trap shit.

Take me through some of your life experiences that have shaped your music.

Doing my time. I was 18, got through that. I’m 28 now. So anywhere from living on the street to family problems, things like that, in and out of relationships, dumb shit, not taking life seriously until recently. I would say these past 3 years have been taking myself seriously as a man to where I can actually respect my craft and do things the way I want to, make money, put that money behind me as well.

Because if you’re not putting money behind yourself, it’s a wrap.

A lot of people feel like talent itself will take you far in music, do you believe that?

Nah, if you got rich parents maybe. But if you come from nothing, and I come from nothing, you really gotta make a way to see an outcome.

You mentioned being in and out of relationships, have you finally found that balance between your personal life and your career?

The person who I’m with, she really pushes me to do better.

Not just musically but as a man.

Just do better for myself, just showing me that I’m worth more than what I’m putting out. Once I realized, damn I have someone who cares for me and not just her, I got a family behind me and all that I gotta take care of. It’s sink or swim you know.

Tell me about your name “Boston George” This name’s been following me forever and I want to make sure the world know, I did not name myself that. I was in the streets, doing my thing,making a little money and me and Slim Thug and one of his homeboys and we were making our way to Dallas, my real name is George by the way, we was by a subway and I had a pocket full of fives, and I just wanted to get rid of em, it was like a big roll gigantic band of fives, and Rico, which was Slim Thug’s homeboy was like “oh shit!

Boston George got it! Boston George.”

Considering Boston George was a big time street dude, you know, whatever the case maybe. So people started saying that, they said it all weekend. And Ikem from Indmix, a blog around here and he took pictures in the club, and he posted that shit under my name and it hasn’t gone anywhere since.

So pretty much if you can’t beat em, join em, so you adapted the name?

Pretty much and it just kept happening and kept happening. I wasn’t even rapping at that time. So I would go to the club, and I would take pictures and they would post Boston George under it and next thing you know...shit, I was Boston George.

You’ve done alot of work with some major players in the game, Boosie, Jeezy, tell us a little bit about your career and what you’ve done so far.

I started out, it’s a crazy story. Like I said, me being in the streets, I had alot of crazy shit happening in my life.

And one of my cousins told me “man you outta rap bruh, everybody fuck with you, you outta rap. I was like yeah you right, fuck it, let’s rap. I was going back and forth, up North and back, so I had got hip to Yo Gotti’s music. So I hit somebody who knew Yo Gotti and asked him “Hey man I just want a feature from him” and he was like “if you can come up to Memphis now we can do it.” I jumped in my Challenger and drove and got the verse from Gotti, Gotti was like “what’s your rap name?”

I was like “Shit, I ain’t got one yet.” He was like “what’s your label?” I was like “we ain’t thought about that part yet, I just want a verse from you.” I had a beat I had got on Soundclick, some bullshit, he did the verse for it and I came back to Houston like “shit, yea, I’m gonna be a rapper.” So I went and got records from Rick Ross and all types of people, but never been in the booth yet. When I came back to Houston to actually rap, I didn’t know anything about punch ins and ad libs, I thought all that shit supposed to sound right the first time I do it. And of course it didn’t work like that, so when I did that shit, and it didn’t sound right, I was like “Fuck this rap shit” and I went and got some artists, I found Killa Corleone, and Marcus Manchild and I was behind them, giving them the verses trying to use that shit to get them up. And we had a couple situations where Killa had got hemmed up with the radio station, dealing with the Trae the Truth situation and then Marcus Manchild, he just didn’t understand that in rap you have to get out and work. He wanted to do the rap, but didn’t like to mix and mingle with people. I had played the behind the scenes role for 3 4 years just messing with them. But when the

shit didn’t pan out I was like fuck it. I’m gonna try this shit myself again. And it seems like ever since I got back people been rocking with me.

With your label AMG, correct? Would you go to that behind the scenes life again?

That’s really the goal to me. AMG is Authentic Music Group. I feel like I’m more of the business man, more than just an all out rapper. My idea is I want to get in there, do my thing, tell my story, and I also want to bring other artists up. I want to build my brand, kind of like Ross did and Birdman did. I want to rap, but I want to create something way bigger than just me being a rapper.

Speaking of working with other artists, you currently have a project out with Young Greatness. Can you tell us how that came about?

Me and Greatness, that was a situation where he was actually doing some work with Jeezy and Jeezy heard some of the records and said “I think it would be dope if you did it with Boston, coz Boston can be a little bit more hands on, to get out there in the streets and working with you. The Greatness situation, I already knew Greatness from bumping into him in studios and different situations like that. When Jeezy told him to send the record to me, they sent the record to me. And it’s tragic and it’s crazy.

But like he said, “we drop this shit and everything going crazy.” It’s just sad how it had to happen.

If you noticed, I did records with big artists, and I did other stuff, but I realized if you don’t build a core fan base and you don’t plan a seed and let it grow, you’re just everywhere. So I said, I really already got my own sound, I just don’t really embrace it. I don’t come in and do records with niggas. I don’t really fuck with these niggas really that much. You see nothing but negative come from that type of shit. With this rap shit I never took it serious, so I said, I’m gonna cross out all the stuff I did in the past and I’m starting over on October the 4th. So on October 4th, Big Bag Boston was born. And I said I was gonna get with some guys from

him so what I was trying to do is use that project to stand me up through and really fuck with the people who fuck with Texas music. On this project we got some hard ass records, we got a song called “How we move” that I think we’re gonna use as the single. It’s hard as shit. It got a real good vibe do it.
