D I R E C TO R ’ S N O T E S – E DWA R D M O R G A N This is John’s celebration of summer. We first developed the piece at the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center in 2006 with the title A Midsummer Night McGivern. In later summers we remounted the show at the Marcus Center and Milwaukee Rep, and it was also taped by MPTV and has been broadcast on various occasions. We’re delighted to be remounting the show again with a new title and some new sections in this lovely new theatre. This show is a tour through John’s stories of summer, from bringing out the screens and the old push mower, through the 4th of July and summer camp to those lazy August days by the lake. The memories are John’s, but they have a ring of familiar truth. For many of us, they call to mind our own childhood summers, our families and holidays, and hopes and fears we’ve sometimes long forgotten. This is John’s special gift - with hilarity and humanity, he reacquaints us with ourselves. Happy summer days.

JOHN MCGIVERN John is thrilled to be back at Next Act Theater. He is a member of Milwaukee’s #1 Morning Radio show with Dave and Carole on 96.5 WKLH. You may remember John from his Emmy-winning, PBS Special, THE EARLY STORIES OF JOHN MCGIVERN. He can be seen in the MPTV Weekly Series, AROUND THE CORNER WITH JOHN MCGIVERN, that began airing in January 2012. John is proud to have been part of WE’RE FUNNY THAT WAY on HBO and OUT THERE II on Comedy Central. He was seen sitting next to Sally Field on POLITICALLY INCORRECT and knighted by Julie Andrews in the hit film THE PRINCESS DIARIES. EDWARD MORGAN (Director) is delighted to collaborate again with John McGivern. Previous productions with John include earlier versions of this show (A Midsummer Night McGivern), various incarnations of Winter Tales (or Home for the Holidays), Santaland Diaries, Fully Committed, The Odd Couple and Lovers & Executioners. He has also directed many productions here at Next Act, such as The Exonerated, Faith Healer and Last of the Boys. Mr. Morgan was formerly Associate Artistic Director at Milwaukee Rep, where he directed about 30 productions of all kinds. He also co-wrote A Rising Wind with Mr. Kishline, which was produced at Kohler Arts Center last summer and was broadcast by MPTV last December. Most recently, Mr. Morgan was in Costa Rica, teaching both actors and dancers at the Universidad Nacional de Cost Rica and co-directing with Ailyn Morera, her play, Dicen Las Paredes.
