Ashley Taylor Elkins November 20, 1984 - February 24, 2020 by David Eriksen
Ashley Taylor Elkins was a dear friend of mine besides a long time employee here at Foothills Times. Ashley had a gift of writing “A STRONG WRITER” and yes she could sell. If any of you in King had a chance to meet her, you would certainly agree. I enjoyed having her on my sales team. Although a very strong willed person, she did tell those who were close to her of her deep appreciation. I will always remember her as a very determined person, despite an illness that many wouldn’t quite understand unless you had that illness. I can appreciate the difficulties of having sugar diabetes, as I have it myself. She set an outstanding example on caring for sugar levels, it was a constant habit of checking her blood sugars. There was more than one time she would call me and ask how my sugars were or have you been to the doctor. She knew the importance of keeping her sugars under tight control. Ashley was always well informed about her health, to the point that when she was only 14 years old knew she had Diabetes. Never once did I hear her complain of this illness, to her it was a part of her life. I wanted to write something that would count for those who might have Diabetes, think of others that may have an illness a bit more serious then yours. I trust and feel Ashley did have it worse then me, we can learn so much when a friend is no longer in our life. Our friend may be gone, but not forgotten. Cherish the time you have with your love ones, may good health be with you.
Your Big Day Can Make Someone Else’s By Ashley Elkins Understandably, there are certain items from your wedding you wish to keep as momentoes, but it has most likely crossed your mind what to do with the rest of it. In case you haven’t heard, donating flowers, leftover catering, dresses, decor and more is totally a thing, and you can get in on it. There are a number of services who will take care of donations for you directly from your venue, or you can make arrangements with your wedding planner (if you have one) to arrange the drop offs. Most organizations provide a tax deductible note so you can claim the market value of the items. Next up the dress. While letting go of that expensive gown that took months to find may seem absurd, it is just going to sit in the back of the closet never to be worn again. Brides Against Cancer uses their donated gowns and resells them to raise money for cancer awareness and research.
Ashley Taylor Elkins, 35 of King, NC passed away unexpectedly, Monday, February 24, 2020. Ashley was born November 20, 1984, in Norton, VA to Cynthia Fleming and John Adron Elkins, Jr. who survive. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, John Kelse If you’ve been growing your hair out for that perfect wedding look, and Joan Fleming, and John A. Elkins, Sr. cut it o ffafter the honeymoon and donate it to Locks of Love, a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under the age of 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Some great Ideas, don’t you think? - Ashley
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Maia Penelope Elkins, mother, Cynthia Fleming, father, John Adron Elkins, Jr., grandparents, Ron and Pauline Booe, sister, Kelsey Knight Jamison and husband Brandon, and brother, Gerald Denis Hebert, several, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Model Maddison Abbott
In the beginning of the decade, women’s styles were very flamboyant. Extreme, bright colors were in high demand and long, flowing skirt and pants were everywhere. In the winter. In the summer, women wore very short shorts and skin tight t-shirts. Oh, and you can’t forget about the roller skates. With every year, pants were flaring wider and wider. It was common for a pair of women’s wide-flare slacks to have 32″ around the bottom of the leg hem. Soon the flare exploded into bell bottoms and it couldn’t go anywhere but smaller from there.

ou've heard it a zillion times: "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." Turns out there's more truth to that than you might think. Studies show apples have powerful health benefits, particularly when it comes to fighting chronic diseases that kill millions of people each year. Here's a short list of how eating more apples can help keep you healthy, along with some apple-licious ways to add them to your meals. www.eatingwell.com
To get the most nutrition, enjoy the whole fruit-both flesh and skin.

Multiple studies show apples are good for your ticker-in multiple ways. Their high ďŹ ber content has been shown to help improve cholesterol levels (lowering bad LDL cholesterol and increasing good HDL cholesterol), according to researchers from Florida State University. A review of data from three major studies also found that people who ate whole fruits-including apples-were less likely to develop high blood pressure. And the Women's Health Study showed that women who ate apples over the seven-year study period had up to a 22 percent reduced risk of heart disease. Finally, a Dutch study found that eating apples and pears was associated with a 52 percent lower risk of stroke-thanks to their high ďŹ ber and a avonoid called quercetin.

A Variety of Handmade Skincare Products
H
ello my name is Cheryl Lynne and I created a company of my own called Butter and Scrubs Spa. We are located here in Winston - Salem, NC.My interest in skincare was sparkedby my grandmother from the Philippines who introduced me there to the wonders of nature. She also taught me how to use natural products for my skincare. My grandmother's teachings taught me at a young age how to appreciate using my skills and later to become an independent business woman. She also taught me tobelieve in myself which became importantin my life and business today.By cultivating these skills, it has given me the power to give back to mynew native adoptive country and to join my father who is a retired Naval Officer. My company began as a hobby but discovering that my products were very helpful to my family members and friends, it grew to a product line that itis today. To learn more in addition to my grandmother’s teachings, I attended school tostudy skincare and the wide array of ingredients and to promote my business. It was this combined knowledge that helped me to utilize and create an improved product line.

The sunset beneath the evening sky. by Jessica Jones
This day I have awaited my whole life, I glance down the isle only seeing you at the end of it. Within the distance your hand reached for mine, as the earth slowly shifted I counted the soft lit diamonds placed within the sky. A dash of hope splashed upon my face, as you and I embraced, Encapsuled by heaven's warm-lit showers, magically placed unending love and grace.
