Welcome to issue 2 of Tendring Life Magazine.
The year so far has been a very busy one, visiting local events, fairs and businesses across Tendring.
I have enjoyed speaking with many advertisers and have received advice on what they want within a local Magazine and what they don’t too.
Again I would like to thank those sharing and following the Magazine on Social Media platforms and my advertisers who without it, this Magazine
will fail to exist. I think the Mantra for me and I hope yourselves, is to support and use the services of those businesses advertised in this Magazine. I hope this can be not only a directory of businesses but also you over time get a good insight into the businesses shops and services that provide the backbone of our communities.
With the current mild weather, its been nice to visit local events that otherwise may have been cancelled due to the weather, for me that includes grassroots football, something I am passionate about, two

The two of us met through very tragic circumstances… me losing my marriage, and my partner (Claire) losing her partner at the time, to Covid itself. We were introduced to each other by a mutual friend, and the rest, as they say, is history!
Having previously been involved in making jams before, I suggested that we should maybe resurrect the craft, so with a new name and a new look, Country Cottage Preserves was born. Claire, a chef by trade, had never made a jam or chutney before which we both laugh at now, considering the success we are having, as a brand new fledgling business.
In just two years, the customer base has tripled, the number of products available has doubled,
and with huge success with Claire’s signature Courgette Relish now being our bestselling flavour. Made from her own insatiable zest for creating unique flavours, playing with flavours that work well together as well as those that have been a gamble, but somehow work well too!
Her very own Courgette Relish was made last Summer as an accompaniment to any barbecue, but our lovely customers have extended its use, deciding it can go with either cold meats, cheese and biscuits, sausages, burgers, or just plain spooning it out of the jar!! We just can’t make it quick enough, with us being chased down at Country Fairs and Farmers Markets for it, and outlets telling us it’s the first flavour to sell out each month. That’s why we are taking the bold step of putting it into The Good
Taste Awards for 2024.
Other popular flavours include our Raspberry and Sweet Chilli Jam, Very Berry Jam, Beetroot Chutney, Smoked Garlic and Apple Chutney, and of course, our traditional Whiskey Marmalade too.
This year we take on a brand-new allotment, so we will now be able to say our produce will be truly homegrown, along with using produce donated from some very kind local benefactors. We’re very grateful to those that donate their fruit and veg to us, and so, by way of thanks, we give back a hamper of the products made, using their donated food. We feel this is the right thing to do and harks back to a simpler way of life, that many of us miss, and pine for again.

Harwich & Parkeston FC started January with a postponed fixture on the 6th January against Holbeach in Thurlow Nunn Division 1 followed by an away win against Swaffham 2-1 on the 13th, a postponed cup match against Long Melford on the 16th was then followed by another postponement on the 20th January away to Parsons Grove in the league due to a waterlogged pitch. On the 24th Harwich & Parkeston played their rearranged league cup match versus Long Melford drawing 1-1, with substitutes Canning and Carty combining well to snatch a late leveller taking the game straight to penalties. Unfortunately for Harwich they fell short losing 5-3 on Pens. Harwich sit 5th place currently in the division, 1 point inside the playoff positions with a game in hand over the 6th placed team.
Little Oakley FC started January in the Essex Senior League Premier Division with a defeat at home to Tilbury FC 4-1 followed by a cup upset in
the BBC Essex Senior Cup with a win over Brentwood Town at the Little Oakley Memorial Ground. Harry Mann an Oakley legend in the making scoring the only goal in the second half in a 1-0 win to the hosts. On the 23rd they travelled to local rivals FC Clacton and came away with a point in a 1-1 draw Jenson Mulqueen scoring for the hosts with Oakley’s reply by Sibbons, followed by a home loss on the 27th January against Saffron Walden Town 0-1. They closed out the month on the 31st with a penalty defeat to Woodford Town in the Peter Butcher Memorial cup 2nd round 5-4 on Pens they currently sit 13th in the table with goal difference separating themselves with Local rivals FC Clacton both on 32 points after 26 games.
Brightlingsea Regent FC have endured a tough month of results in January with a loss against Witham Town on New years day 3-1 in Isthmian North, followed by defeat to league leaders Lowestoft 2-1 on the 6th January a 3-2 defeat to Walthamstow on the 13th,
closing out the month with a 2-0 defeat to Maldon and Tiptree on the 27th currently sitting 10th in the Division and hopes of Playoffs diminished by their recent run of poor form, albeit against well-established teams all above them in the table.
FC Clacton’s January kicked off with a 0-0 home draw against Takeley FC on the 9th followed by a crushing win versus Coggeshall 5-1 in the Errington Challenge cup 1st round, goals from teddy Collis with a brace and goals from Harvey Cowler Toby Harms, and Shayden Baker - Williams completed the rout for the home side, they followed this on the 23rd with a 1-1 draw against local rivals Little Oakley with a goal from Jenson Mulqueen, another win against Coggeshall this time in the league away from home 3-2 a brace from Kudiabor and goal from Eveleigh was followed on the 31st January with a point away at Athletic Newham 1-1 closing out what has been an excellent month for the Seasiders.
