Subtalar arthritis affects the subtalar joint (the joint found below the ankle joint) in the hindfoot. The symptoms of subtalar arthritis include pain and swelling in the hindfoot area, which can be developed by walking, especially on a rough surface, and standing. You can feel pain in a specific location at the level of the hind foot which is just below the outside of the ankle.

The most common cause of subtalar arthritis is traumatic injury due to an injury commonly seen after calcaneal fracture, or abnormal heel bone alignment. Dr. Shakti Swaroop is experienced in determining the nature and extent of subtalar Arthritis by conducting a physical examination or by imaging tests such as X-Ray, sometimes CT or MRI scans. The most common surgical treatment of subtalar arthritis is Subtalar fusion.
