Eating whole, nutritious food creates a synergy of nutrients working together! Protein is essential in our diet, but there are differing recommendations on how much protein we need per day. Much depends on our lifestyle, age, gender, exercise habits and goals like muscle growth or weight loss. Generally, two portions of protein rich food per day is sufficient, or for the average adult between 40g and 60g of protein. Canada's Food Guide suggests making 1/4 of your meal protein, and variety is key. Balance protein with sufficient carbs, fats & micronutrients.

Eggs are versatile, suitable as a snack or meal. One medium egg contains about 6g of protein in an easy to digest form.

PASTURE RAISED ORGANIC EGGS ARE CONSIDERED THE BEST TYPE OF EGGS TO CONSUME DUE TO THEIR HIGHER OMEGA-3 CONTENT.

PROTEIN

Lentils are a good source of protein and can even provide the same quality protein as meat. A half cup serving of cooked lentils contains about 12g of protein.

Fish and seafood are excellent sources of protein while usually being low in fat. Salmon is more a fatty fish but packs in heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids. An 8oz (227g) portion of salmon has about 54g of protein.

Soy products like tofu can be a very good source of plant protein. One cup of tofu, or about 100g contains 10g of protein.

A 100g serving of lean, cooked chicken breast contains about 32g of protein.

Nuts and seeds are a fast protein choice on the run. 10 almonds contain about 3g of protein, while pumpkin seeds contain all nine essential amino acids. A 1oz (28g) serving of pumpkin seeds contains about 8.6g of protein.
