The Cantos Family: Building their Dreams in Folsom Ranch

Luis and Mona Cantos are the epitome of a power couple, making their mark in the vibrant community of Folsom Ranch. Hailing from the Philippines, they met in high school and fell in love during their college years. A few years later, in 2014, they migrated to the US, where they built their dream life together

Luis landed a job at California ISO in Folsom, which led to their serendipitous move to the area. Starting off in a cozy apartment, they soon decided to purchase a condo in Folsom. It was there that they started to build their family, welcoming their first son, Lucas, in 2016, and their second son, Matteo, in 2018, along with their beloved dog, Rocco. However, their growing family needed more space, leading them to discover the magnificent Folsom Ranch in 2020.

Their journey has been one of determination and hard work, both in their professional and personal lives Outside of their day jobs, Luis and Mona are also small business owners Mona is a professional photographer who specializes in family photos, capturing the beautiful moments of families in The Folsom community Meanwhile, Luis is the owner of clothing brands Break New Ground, a jiu-jitsu clothing line, and Saint Paul, a streetwear brand Together, they also own and run Bedrock Jiu Jitsu, a home studio where they teach jiujitsu to both kids and adults, sharing their passion for the sport with the community

Mona and Luis have been training jiu-jitsu for a combined 12 years under the instruction of their professors Eli and Brandy Beda in Checkmat Folsom The couple strongly believes that jiujitsu has changed their lives for the better, and they are determined to share their love for the martial art with the Folsom Ranch community

Luis and Mona's commitment to jiu-jitsu extends beyond their business venture, Bedrock Jiu Jitsu. They view the sport as a way of life, embodying discipline, perseverance, and respect. Through their teachings, they hope to add value to the Folsom Ranch community, empowering their students to live healthier, more balanced lives.

Their love for jiu-jitsu has been a journey of personal growth, bringing them closer as a couple and as a family. It has given them a shared passion that they can pass down to their sons, Lucas and Matteo, who have already started training in the sport Mona and Luis strongly believe that jiu-jitsu has the power to change lives, and they are excited to share this beauty to the Folsom Ranch community

The Cantos family is a shining example of how passion and perseverance can transform a community Through their business, Bedrock Jiu Jitsu, they are bringing the joy and discipline of jiu-jitsu to Folsom Ranch, making the community stronger and more connected

The Cantos Family are more than just passionate jiu-jitsu advocates, they are also proud members of the Folsom Ranch community In their short time living here, they have come to love the sense of family and support that permeates the community. They have made more friends in Folsom Ranch than they did in their previous years living in Folsom, which is a testament to the warmth and openness of the community.

What particularly stands out to Luis and Mona is the excellent education offered by Mangini Elementary School, one of the best schools in the Sacramento area. They feel lucky that their sons, Lucas and Matteo, have the opportunity to attend such an outstanding school.

Living in Folsom Ranch means more than just having a roof over your head - it means becoming part of a caring and supportive community The Cantos family feels like Folsom Ranch is an extension of their home, and they are grateful to be able to contribute to the community through their business and passion for jiu-jitsu

PROSPECT PARK AT MANGINI RANCH

Exciting news for Folsom residents! The city is gearing up to add more park spaces to its already impressive list, with the next planned park going out to bid this month. Prospector Park, spanning a vast 10.5 acres, is the first of nine planned parks for the Folsom Plan Area, located south of Highway 50.

According to Park Planning Manager Brad Nelson, the municipal code and general plan call for the provision of five acres of park for every 1,000 residents. This translates to a park within a 10-minute walking distance of everyone's house - a goal that Folsom is committed to achieving. The park is located near Mangini Ranch Elementary School and is expected to be considered by the city council by late April

Prospector Park pays homage to the historic gold mining that took place in the area, featuring metal art panels throughout. Visitors can look forward to a children's play area, a lighted baseball field, tennis courts, volleyball courts, a basketball court, a dog park, restrooms, and a parking lot. The highlight of the park, without a doubt, is the two zip lines in the children's play area. "For us, the most exciting thing is we will have two parallel zip lines, which will be the first zip lines in Folsom," said Nelson. "That will really elevate the level of play."The city is investing $8.25 million in this project, covered by impact fees paid by builders and developers specific to the Folsom Plan Area. If everything goes according to plan, the city could break ground on the park in June, with construction taking seven to nine months.

Folsom is known for its parks and trails, and the city is committed to bringing high quality to its park spaces. "We are continuing to bring high quality to our park spaces," said Nelson. With additional work planned at Davey Park and Livermore Community Park, Folsom residents have a lot to look forward to!

Community Easter Celebrations

The Easter holiday is a time for families and communities to come together and celebrate. This year, two community events hosted Easter egg hunts and festivities for families to enjoy

The first event, hosted by Mangini Ranch Elementary, drew in over 500 residents. The event featured 4,000 eggs for children to find during the Easter egg hunt. In addition, there was a chick exhibit, face painter, balloon twister, glitter tattoos, Paquitos taco truck, Easter bunny and even a visit from the local fire department. The community event provided a fun and engaging way for families to celebrate Easter together.

The second event took place in the southeast part of the country. The neighborhood hosted its 3rd annual Easter egg hunt, which provided families with an opportunity to enjoy face painting, balloons, coffee and hot cocoa provided by Big Wave Coffee, as well as prizes and games. The event allowed families to come together and enjoy the holiday festivities with their neighbors and friends.

It is important to acknowledge and thank the community members, vendors, and volunteers who made these events possible Without their support and contributions, these events would not have been successful Their dedication and hard work are truly appreciated and helped to create a fun and memorable experience for all who attended It is heartening to see how people can come together to make a difference in their community and create positive experiences for families to enjoy We extend our deepest gratitude to all who helped make these events a success, and we look forward to more community celebrations in the future
