BOUQS & BRICKS BOUQUETS

To The Florida Theatre for ranking as the fifth most-attended theatre in the world. We’ve always known this Jacksonville gem was something special, but seeing it recognized on a global level hits different. Truly — they deserve all the flowers.

To ICE — and specifically to agent Jonathan Ross, who fatally shot U.S. citizen and mother of three Renee Nicole Good during a federal immigration enforcement operation. Good was in her vehicle near her home and attempting to comply with officers’ commands when the interaction escalated. After one agent directed her to leave, she began to drive away — at which point Ross, claiming he feared for his safety, fired his weapon, killing her.

On a lighter note, to Southern Grounds AB for changing their sipping lids. They simply do not work anymore and cause coffee to get everywhere except my mouth.

Jacksonville and the Green Rush

Cannabis reform is back on Florida’s radar, and Jack sonville is feeling the buzz. A revamped initiative is pushing to get adult‑use marijuana on the 2026 ballot, while state lawmakers are exploring bills that could legalize recreational sales and even let patients grow at home. Courts and the attorney general are already challenging the measure, so the road to legalization is still full of twists.

Meanwhile, Florida’s medical marijuana system is qui etly evolving. Changes to patient access, advertising rules and supply limits are reshaping how locals inter act with dispensaries, from Riverside to Mandarin. For Jacksonville, 2026 could finally be the year the city sees real progress, whether through the ballot, legis lative action or incremental reform bringing residents closer to the long awaited green light and a more vi brant cannabis culture. We will keep you posted.

H oroscopes

The new year is calling for discipline, Aries, and yes, it’s about time. New year, new you. That loose, go-with-the-flow energy (and missing to-do lists) is finally catching up, but don’t panic. The planets are firmly in your corner. With much of the cosmic action moving through Capricorn and Aquarius all month, structure will come naturally — almost as easy as breathing.

Aries Taurus

As the bull of the zodiac, you’re known for charging horns-first into new goals, Taurus, especially at the start of the year. That’s because the first three weeks of January fall under Capricorn season, activating your ninth house of growth and expansion. The catch? You burn through all that momentum too fast, leaving you drained before the year has really begun. Take a breath, pace yourself and stretch before running the marathon — you’ve got plenty of time.

Gemini

January’s mission: get intentional about your money, Gemini. With the Sun in Capricorn until the 19th, shared finances and boundaries are front and center. The Cancer full moon on the 3rd puts your savings into focus — if you’re sitting pretty, go ahead and treat yourself to a quality investment piece you’ll actually use every damn day.

Cancer

You’re starting the year with a clean slate, Cancer, a rare chance to do things differently the second time around, especially in your relationships. On Jan. 18, the first new moon of the year lands in Capricorn, your opposite sign, bringing fresh-start energy to your closest bonds. It’s time to talk commitment, define the relationship or take that next step toward making things official.

Leo

Fine-tune your flow, Leo. With the Sun in Capricorn until the 19th, routines are under review, think health, work and daily life. Declutter, update your systems and make your life run a lil smoother. By the Capricorn new moon on the 18th, you’ll be ready to lock in habits that actually feel good.

Virgo

The holidays may be over, but you’re not done celebrating just yet, Virgo. With the Sun in Capricorn until the 19th, your playful, creative fifth house stays lit, helping you keep the winter blues at bay. Lean into joy and self-expression. Letting your creativity shine could reveal something new about yourself.

Being a homebody is the vibe this January, Libra. With the Sun in Capricorn until the 19th, nesting, redecorating and lying low feel right. Enjoy it — but not for long. The Cancer full moon on the 3rd spotlights your career, putting you back on center stage and possibly nudging you toward a pivot.

Libra Scorpio

Your words hit harder this month, Scorpio, so choose them well. With the Sun in Capricorn until the 19th, communication is your power move, pitch it, say it, send it. The Cancer full moon on the 3rd pushes you to think bigger, travel farther or dive into something that expands your worldview.

Sagittarius

You’re on the brink of a personal artistic renaissance, Sagittarius. You began the month focused on finances and getting your life in order; now it’s time to reap the rewards. On Jan. 26, Neptune moves into Aries and your fifth house of creativity, romance and self-expression, kicking off a rare 14-year chapter that hasn’t happened in nearly two centuries. Your mission within this rare chapter is to infuse more imagination and wonder into your life.

Capricorn

It’s your season, Capricorn — act like it. With the Sun in your sign until the 19th, you’ve got momentum to refresh your look, chase bold goals, or launch something all about you. Don’t let anyone dull your shine. Just stay open to partnership vibes around the 3rd, when the Cancer full moon highlights your one-on-one connections.

Aquarius

Endings are just beginnings in disguise, a quiet portal into what comes next. On Jan. 18, the first new moon of 2026 lands in Capricorn and moves through your 12th house of closure and release, asking you to shed what’s no longer serving you. To truly start fresh this year, something has to be laid to rest. What’s been weighing you down, Aquarius, and is ready to be released?

The future is calling, Pisces, and you can’t stop thinking about what’s next. With the Sun in Capricorn until the 19th, your 11th house of community and innovation is buzzing — this is your moment to network, collaborate, or launch a group project. Just don’t lose yourself in the mix.

I think we can all agree that the St. Augustine Amphitheatre has hosted more than a few of our all time favorite shows. The venue is tailor made for Florida weather, and it’s intimate enough that even the “nosebleeds” don’t feel like nosebleeds. At a bigger venue, those same seats would cost you an arm, a leg, and maybe a soul.

We’ve got a tie! If you’re looking to switch up karaoke night and ditch your usual go to, this one’s for you. Head to Keg & Coin and Dart Bar or Rhythm & Muse — different vibes, same excuse to grab the mic and see what happens. Honestly, you can’t go wrong.

Ancient City Con WASABICON

Whoever said dressing up is just for Halloween, clearly hasn’t experi enced a cosplay event. Both Ancient City Con and WasabiCon choose to defy all odds and encourage us to put on our favorite costumes and try our best impressions of Darth Vader’s notorious exhale.

Screw T.G.I.F. Spend your Tuesday nights eating boiled peanuts, drinking drafts, and belting your comfort song…alone or with your bestie. The Walrus in Murray Hill is THE hotspot for karaoke nights. Don’t believe me? Stop by at 7 p.m., sign up, and get ready to blow the doors off the joint at 8.

From Mean Girls trivia to skee ball, pool, and darts, Dart Bar & Games has hit the bullseye. The Beer is always cold, and open mic nights stay hot. With over 200 rotating beers and seltzers, they are sure to have something for everyone!

Jacksonville Jaguars: Roaring Into the Future

This season, the Jacksonville Jaguars reminded the NFL why they’re a team to watch. With a mix of precision, grit and sheer tal ent, the Jaguars played like a squad that had finally found its identity. Trevor Lawrence continued to cement his place among the league’s elite quarterbacks, threading passes with a calm confidence that belied his youth. On the ground, Travis Etienne Jr. turned ordinary plays into highlight reel moments, keeping defenses guessing week after week.

Defensively, the Jaguars were no less impressive. With Devin Lloyd leading the charge, the unit created pressure, forced turnovers and proved that Jacksonville is building a reputation as a team that can win in every quarter. But perhaps the most impressive aspect was the chemistry: a roster full of talent that knew how to play for one another.

Looking ahead, the excitement is palpable. The Jaguars’ core group is young, hungry and battle tested, and the front office has shown a sharp eye for building around that talent. With offseason additions and continued growth from Lawrence and Travis Hunter back in play along with the entire supporting cast, expectations aren’t just high, they’re historic. Jacksonville fans have every rea son to believe that next season, the roar of the Jaguars may very well be heard all the way to the Super Bowl.

as BEST RADIO PERSONALITIES

I mean, who else deserves this ti tle than the king and queen of ra dio, Dex and Barbie T? This duo has been running the radio stations for years, and the people of Jackson ville have fallen completely and ut terly in love with them. Shocker!

In need of a new podcast? Nick Usher and Joey Allen discuss the ins and outs of athletes, music, culture and entertainment. The wide ranging conversation never ends. With weekly episodes every Thursday featuring new guests and topics, OG Sessions keep their lis teners hooked and wanting more.

JAXFUNEATSDRINKS.COM Anthony Austin

Lauren and Russ of Jaxfuneats drinks.com are like the mom and dad of Jacksonville. They tell us where to eat, what to do on the weekends, and all sorts of odds and ends in Duuval. These locals keep the 904 in the know.

Anthony Austin of First Coast News has been asking questions that you want to know in your local area since 2016. This East Texas native is committed to helping the people of Jacksonville and sharing with you the news you need to know. If you have a problem you can’t solve, just ask Anthony!

Since 1945 when it hit the airwaves as WJAX, WAPE has been entertain ing and informing listeners across the First Coast and beyond. After several format changes, including hard rock and urban, the Big Ape eventually landed on its top 40 format in 1986 where it’s remained at the top of the charts. Leading the charge is the Dex and Barbie T Morning Show, known for its enter tainment news and big prizes, like its current $1,000 giveaways.

Anthony Austin is Jacksonville’s investigative bulldog…the kind of reporter who doesn’t just ask questions, but follows them all the way to an answer that actually mat ters. He skips the fluff, digs where others won’t and has a track re cord of turning viewer complaints into real accountability. Through sheer persistence and old school shoe leather reporting, he reminds this city what local journalism is supposed to do: protect the public, not placate power. In an era of recy cled headlines, Austin still breaks news the hard way. By earning it.

The ever evolving and beloved First Coast News is the center of Jack sonville’s storytelling. Starting as America’s first ever color broad cast in the 1950’s, this TV station is rife with history and information about our city. With no end in sight, First Coast News will always be on your side.

There are things you only see in Du val. And there are things you only see on Only in Duval’s Instagram. Most recently, that has included a random female bar patron doing squats at a local bar — WITH TREV OR LAWRENCE ON HER BACK. Yes, that Trevor Lawrence. We don’t have time to get into that, but just know what you see on this IG site you likely won’t find anywhere else. While it’s heavy on Jaguars con tent, it also features events, news and mostly Duval being Duval.

Rance Adams of River City Live is Jacksonville’s standout talk show host because he brings real con versation back to local television. He is smart, spirited and rooted in this city’s pulse. He makes viewers feel seen and heard. With quick wit, genuine curiosity and a knack for keeping guests on their toes with out ever losing the thread, Adams makes local talk feel less like fill er and more like something worth tuning in for.

Trevor Lawrence

as BEST ATHLETE

As I’m writing this, we’re a mere two days out from our playoff matchup against the Bills, and with that in mind, of course, Jacksonville has crowned Trevor Lawrence our Best Local Athlete. The man showed up this season and took us further than we’ve been in a minute (and hopefully isn’t done yet).

Cassidy Lee

as BEST VOCALIST

I mean… she was literally on “The Voice.” Michael Bublé spun his little chair the second he heard Cas sidy Lee sing “You’re No Good.” The whole audi ence, live and at home, was completely mesmerized. So yeah, obviously, she won best vocalist. We’re not deaf.

He doesn’t just point out landmarks; he weaves narratives that make old brick and new culture come alive, turning a mere stroll into an experience.

CHRISTINA FELICIANO

JENNE VERMES & SEAN MANSFIELD

as SEXIEST COUPLE

What makes someone “sexy” isn’t necessarily pumped up muscles or plumped up lips, but a special chemistry that can’t often be de fined. This year’s winners prove that chemistry is the special link. From their singing (she released her latest single last month) and dancing (they co own a studio called Arts on the Edge in Fleming Is land, where they both teach) to their lazy nights on the couch eating ramen and tortilla chips, they are a couple who truly believe in each other — as a pair and as solo acts. And what can be sexier than that?

CASSIDY RAMOS “MANICBOTANIC”

as BEST FLORIST

Cassidy Ramos of Manic Botanic is Jacksonville’s go‑to florist be cause she treats blooms like more than just decoration, she sees them as the emotional punctuation in people’s lives. Her arrange ments aren’t cookie‑cutter bouquets; they’re thoughtful composi tions that feel crafted, personal, and exactly right for the moment. With an eye for color, texture and freshness — often locally sourced — she turns every order into something that feels both artful and genuine.

You won’t find Lukkarila’s work at the local multiplex (RIP Sun Ray), but you will find it on his oddly named website Lukalips Destruction Company (tagline: the beautiful and horrible world of Troy Lukkarila). What you will also find are cartoons, short videos like “Pierre the Bit ter Mime,” cartoons, art and music, plus random bits of wisdom like “Braiding your pubic hair is all the rage.” Bet you never heard Steven Spielberg say that.

HOPE MCMATH

as BEST SOCIAL JUSTICE CRUSADER

Hope McMath has become Jacksonville’s finest social crusader by turning empathy into action and giving a voice to the city’s over looked and underserved. She rallies people, resources and solutions in ways that actually move the needle, whether it’s community out reach, advocacy or boots‑on‑the‑ground support. Her work blends heart with hustle, proving that change doesn’t come from good in tentions alone but from relentless follow‑through. In a town that needs both grit and grace, McMath brings both and makes everyone around her better for it.

MARY CHAMBLISS

as BEST ARCHITECT

“I consistently read up on all kinds of technologies, from Japanese and sailing knots to rainscreen systems to net zero projects, hemp crete to micro homes, furniture to light fixtures” reads Chambliss’ website. Given the depth and breadth of her knowledge, it’s no won der she’s worked on projects as diverse as restaurants, yoga studios, barber shops, optometrists and day care centers, to name a few. But her true passion is residential design — both new construction to ren ovations and additions — from tiny homes on wheels to mansions on the water.

ANGEL MAE GLUTZ

as BEST PERSONALITY

Angel Mae Glutz has been trailblazing the tattoo scene since 2006 with her precision to detail and impeccable linework. If you need some new ink, you can find her at Coven Tattoo Shop.

For those undergo ing diabetic lifestyle changes, it can be chal lenging to find a safe space… and luckily, it may be closer than you think! Locally owned, New Beauty Cosmetics Aesthetics provides all the enhanced services to feel and look your best.

Surtera

as BEST MEDICAL MARIJUANA DISPENSARY

These days, marijuana dispensaries are on every corner it seems. And sure they sell the same basic product (weed … in all its vari ous forms), but some just do it a little differ ently. And Surterra is one of them. From the moment you walk in the door, you notice this is no sterile, clinical environment. Rather it looks more like someone’s living room (that may or may not smell of marijuana). The bud tenders are extremely friendly, and they have the best specials. If that’s not the best of all worlds, what is really?

EVERGLADES CONCENTRATION CAMP

as WORST ENVIRONMENTAL ABOMINATION

Everglades Concentration Camp, also known as Alliga tor Alcatraz, is the perfect tourist attraction for those who enjoy the destruction of natural ecosystems and disruption of wildlife. Thanks to those who encour age the facility, the once protected wetlands are now a sewage filled resort for detainees, which is a whole other story.

RON DESANTIS

as WORST LOCAL ZERO

What can I say… oh wait, GAY! The most thin skinned man in Tallahassee, who somehow gets to decide what books we can read. Thanks to you Florida has become a national punchline, and you called it leader ship. Here’s to you, Ron!

REPAINTING OVER THE RAINBOW CROSSWALKS

as WORST WASTE OF LOCAL PUBLIC MONEY

It was in an act of love and support of the LGBTQIA+ community when local residents painted crosswalks throughout the city with colorful paintings, some de picting rainbows. And it was the City of Jacksonville that repainted over them. (According to the city, the non standard crossings went against state law for causing distractions to drivers.) Regardless of the move, organizers and participants are seeking out new artistic ways to show their support for the community. #wewillnotbeerased

DONALD TRUMP

as MOST LIKELY TO CHEAT TAXPAYERS

President Donald Trump’s relationship with taxpay er money has always lived in the gray zone between loophole hunting and outright audacity, and history suggests he treats public coffers the same way he treats casino rules: bend them until they squeal. From aggressive tax avoidance to billing government enti ties for services tied to his own properties, the pattern isn’t subtle, it’s transactional. When someone shows you, repeatedly, that they see the system as some thing to be worked rather than respected, believing they’ll suddenly play it straight is the real fantasy.

J. LEA FLORALS

as BEST WEDDING FLORIST

Though she offers creative designs for every occa sion, J. Lea (aka Jessica Ferguson) is best known for her thoughtful, elegant pieces that she —and anyone who sees them — views as works of art. As she says, she offers, “... more than just flower arrangements. I believe in connecting with my clients to truly under stand things they like and dislike.” And the proof is in the wedding pictures — and their faces.

REID HART AT HART LAW

as BEST CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY

Reid Hart is the kind of criminal defense attorney you want when everything is on the line. Sharp in the courtroom, strategic behind the scenes and relent less when it counts. A Jacksonville native with years devoted exclusively to defense work, he treats ev ery case like it’s personal, not procedural. Hart has a knack for cutting through legal chaos and putting real pressure on the prosecution, which is why judges know his name and clients trust him with their futures. In a system that chews people up, he’s the rare lawyer who knows how to fight back and win smart.

MARK MOSS

as BEST ESTATE ATTORNEY

Mark Moss is the rare estate attorney who manages to be both razor sharp and genuinely human, guiding Jacksonville families through wills and trusts with out the usual fog of legal dread. He combines deep technical knowledge with clear, constant communica tion — the kind that makes clients feel protected, not processed. In a field built on trust and foresight, Moss stands out for treating legacy planning as personal business, not paperwork. That mix of brains, empathy and follow through is why his name keeps coming up when people ask who the best really is.

SPOONFUL

as BEST BAKERY

This might be the single most important category we cover. A good bakery can make or break a city, and Jacksonville has no shortage of incredible spots, but this year, Spoonful takes the cake (pun intend‑ ed). And honestly, can you blame us? I’m drooling just thinking about their cookies.

Carolina Jax

as BEST BURGER

Do you ever just crave a burger with a basket of fries, and a shake? According to our voters, Carolina Jax is THE place to be. Just looking at their menu will get your stomach rumbling … and have you craving some beer‑battered onion rings. Yum.

Pete’s

as BEST BEACH BAR

Do I even need to say anything? Anyone who reads “Folio” — or knows me at all (hi, it’s Car men) — already knows Pete’s Bar is the best damn bar in this city. The staff? The crowd? The cheap drinks and unbeatable atmo sphere? Come on. Pete’s ’til we die (PTWD).

JUICE WINE BAR

as BEST NEW BAR

GIVE JUICE WINE BAR THEIR FLOWERS!!!!! If you’re looking for a cozy, intimate night out with a staff that actually cares and a space that’s dark, moody and totally eccentric, Juice Wine Bar is it. Seriously, this place has vibe for days.

As a Florida girl born and raised, I’ve spent my time at many seafood restaurants. Safe Harbor knows what they’re doing. Shrimp nachos and the grilled crab cakes are a must try! This casual dining spot offers great views and vibes. This is a local staple you don’t want to skip out on.

TACOLU

The one thing I like more than Mexican food is Mexican food with a margarita. You mean to tell me I can have chips, salsa, queso, tacos, AND a bloody maria? Say LESS. If your mouth is watering… this is your sign to go to TacoLu for dinner.

V PIZZA

as BEST CHICKEN WINGS

I consider myself a chicken wing connoisseur if you were wondering. So this category is right up my alley. I know what you’re thinking: a pizza place has the best wings? Yes, yes they do. Need a meal while watching the Jags win? Try one of their four great flavors; you can’t go wrong with any!

EUROPEAN STREET CAFE

as BEST DELI

When you’ve owned a deli for nearly 50 years, you know about meat and cheese and bread. But it’s not the ingredients that make E. Street so original — it’s the way they put them together. Their ginormous menu of 100+ items can be a little overwhelming, but the su perstar staff always have the answer. That plus the candy boutique and mouth watering desserts guaran tee you’ll leave with a doggie bag. And what other deli has such a generous daily happy hour?
