[shisei] ‌ street; place, where humans meet; world of ordinary people; Shisei is the space where hi-pe.at is active since 1999. Information Design as ongoing development of tools and implementation of concepts to make unknown situations familiar: physical, social and contentwise.

Being informed and equipped with a sense of orientation and sovereignty, people shall feel comfortable and well empowered to attain their goals.

This brochure is an invitation to join some of the projects we are involved in 2019 and beyond.

Shift of Paradigms

‌

The story of hi-pe.at starts in the mid-nineties. In the imaging industries, the existing analogue black-and-white copiers have been replaced by digital colour network printers. hi-pe.at accompanied the European branches of Japanese suppliers in marketing and sales to master this shift of paradigms.

The challenge was to make successful sales representatives familiar and confident with new technologies, vocabulary and markets. Mainly people in sales reflect on quick, short, intense and visual appealing messages. That way hi-pe.at applies information design.

2011 On behalf of the International Institute for Information Design (IIID), hi-pe.at implemented the worldwide first competition in information design.

2014 Introducing the Legible City concept of a pedestrian wayfinding system in the city of Vienna.

2016 Awarded with „Newcomer in Innovation“ in the field of care for the elderly for the project ”Memories-XL“

2018 First design thinking workshops in Vitebsk / Republic of Belarus.

Based at the Sigmund Freud University (SFU) with headquarters in Vienna, Austria, each module will take place at a different location of the SFU in Europe or with partner institutions around the world. The local cultural and social context provides the overall theme for each module – with immediate relevance to cooperating NGOs and non-profit organisations in that country. A course designed to teach skills in analyzing complex processes and systems in a universal design context. Continuous professional education without addressing one specific profession but regard Universal Design as a transdisciplinary science. starting in Vienna, April 2019

Psychology in VIENNA

Every summer semester we have the pleasure to hold courses in media psychology at the Sigmund Freud Private University Vienna and Linz.

In four classes,100 students discover and explore the interaction between design and psychology. Partners are the city of Vienna, the Tourism Association in Linz and many others. If design has to have an impact and changes behaviour, knowledge on human perception and cognition is essential, a dialogue between Otto and Sigmund. sfu.ac.at.

In 2019 we got the opportunity of a half-year professorship at the functional design department of the Latvian Art Academy in Riga. Courses and projects by hi-pe.at with BA and MA students will cover design thinking, user testing methods, and information design.

The goal is to prepare professional future designers – able to create new functional objects, which meet people’s needs, are imaginative, functional and have high aesthetic value. lma.lv

„auflanger“ is our Austrian wine brand offering a typical very local sort called „frühroter veltliner“. Only 900 bottles a year are available.

The wine itself is meant for daily enjoyment in a democratic every-days environment. It is a family-project, grapes from the own wine-garden, carefully harvested, pressed and bottled. auflanger.at – 22 –

the objectives are to reduce the variety of materials and avoid chemicals.

As no glue for the label is needed, the glass bottle for re-use as a wine-bottle could be cleaned locally with less water and fewer transports.
