Brothers and Sisters,

Charity Contributions

Though we’ve only just begun our travels as Grand Presidents, your kindness and hospitality has already been nothing short of incredible. For years, we have both dedicated our lives to giving back to our communities through the most wonderful organization in the world - The Fraternal Order of Eagles. The warm reception received during the International Convention in Reno only confirmed that we could not have chosen a better group of people to call our Brothers and Sisters. We encourage each and every one of you to reach out to your community in the coming months and add more great “People Helping People” to our ranks. Remember - if you take the time to reach out and “Laugh and Smile in Eagle Style” you’ll be sure to add “One More For The F.O.E.”

• The Grand Aerie continues to operate within the budget approved by the delegation. The Per-Capita Tax will increase to $5.00 in November 2013. • The Charity Foundation has received more than 8,700 contributions through May 31, 2013 and has paid out more than 1,000 grants.

• The uncertainty of the economy and historically low interest rates are negatively affecting the shortfall of funding the Pension Fund. Along with funding the Pension Fund, member driven income continues to weaken. Actual PCT and membership fee incomes are trending downward. The major challenge facing leadership from a financial perspective is how to fund the necessary investment in programs and training to rejuvenate membership in the midst of declining income. • The Iron Eagle fundraising event, contracted through DNT Enterprises for $1 million, had a net result of $34,865 in contributions to the Charity Foundation for the DRC. This total fell well short of the expected contributions and the Charity Foundation was not able to reimburse the Grand Aerie the $1 million fundraising expense. The Charity Foundation will continue to hold liability until funds raised through other means are sufficient to repay the obligation.

DRC

PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE

DRC Gains National Attention on FOX Sports 1 Earlier this year, F.O.E. dignitaries and NASCAR driver Miguel Paludo toured the site of The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center at the University of Iowa. Paludo, a Type 1 diabetic whose son Oliver also suffers from Type 1 diabetes, was given an inside look at the research being done using funds donated by the F.O.E. while cameras from FOX Sports 1 filmed the day’s events. The final piece was featured on Sept. 8, during pre-race coverage of that day’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race from Iowa. This remarkable video is available for viewing via the Grand Aerie’s official YouTube page. Show off this great piece to your Brothers, Sisters, friends and neighbors today and show them the great work being done by the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the University of Iowa! In April, we asked Eagles to make a donation or encourage someone they know to do so using a giving envlope included in Soar. You responded by raising $17,314.10! As of Sept. 27, we have raised almost $2.2 million on the grassroots level toward our $6 million balance to complete our obligation to the University of Iowa. Additionally, the Ladies’ Auxiliary has agreed to donate up to $3 million. Reach out to your friends and family and let them know how we plan to change the world by encouraging them to make a donation to the DRC. With your help, we can make our $6 million mark and get one step closer to finding a cure for diabetes once and for all! P A G E 10

Fredericksburg Eagles Help Local Youth Community service is the foundation on which The Fraternal Order of Eagles was built. At Fredericksburg, Va., Aerie #4123, members made an impact on the lives of more than 30 youths in the community by sponsoring the Power Kix Karate team. Thanks to a $1,000 donation from the Fredericksburg Eagles, the team was able to participate in the Amateur Athletics Union (AAU) National Tae Kwan Do tournament, held July 1-7, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. “We at Aerie #4123 have always believed the investment in our youth in programs like this, along with local sporting events, academic competitions and organizations like the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, goes a long way in developing self-confidence and responsibility,” said Grand Trustee Jerry Sullivan, a member of the Fredericksburg Aerie. Organizations such as Power Kix depend on the support of local businesses and civic organizations to offset the high travel costs related to competitions of such scale. The donation proved fruitful as Power Kix brought home a total of 23 gold, 11 silver and nine (9) bronze medals along with a second-place finish in the Team Sparring competition. “Having that many young people competing at such a high level requires a lot of financial support,” said Jeff Cheney, President of the team’s Board of Directors. “We appreciate the support of our sponsors in helping our young athletes reach their goals.” PA G E 3

We encourage each and every one of you to reach out to your community in the coming months and add more great “People Helping People” to our ranks. Remember - if you take the time to reach out and “Laugh and Smile in Eagle Style” you’ll be sure to add “One More For The F.O.E.”
