The Jaguars and the city will negotiate improvements that could top $1.4 billion. BY MIKE MENDENHALL ASSOCIATE EDITOR
The Jacksonville Jaguars released conceptual renderings and video June 7 for the anticipated renovation of TIAA Bank Field Downtown. The images posted at 1stDowntownJacksonville.com show a revamped facility with a shade canopy and new mid-rise and high-rise developments west of the stadium. The stadium improvements could cost $1.2 billion to $1.4 billion and the proposed development west of the stadium is estimated at $550 million to $668 million, according to a May 11 investment summary from the city. The narrator says the shade canopy would
reduce heat in the stadium by 70%. According to the video, plans include a “tropical Floridian park” at the entrance, and a concourse that’s four times wider than what’s at the stadium today with “interactive social bars” and local food offerings. The video confirms the Jaguars are working to secure a proposed University of Florida graduate campus expansion at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds site, which Jaguars development company Iguana Investments Florida LLC is under contract to buy next to the stadium. The Jaguars have been planning stadium upgrades for three years. Mayor Lenny Curry said in January the team was in early talks with the city on the public investment.
