The chef invested $2.2 million to transform a former law office in Mandarin into a restaurant. Dennis Chan is starting the new year with the new Blue Bamboo Canton Bistro in Mandarin, continuing 16 years of the Asian restaurant’s operations. The new Blue Bamboo now is open for dinner 5-9 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Starting Jan. 4, Blue Bamboo will open for lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Friday and adjust dinner hours to 4-9:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday. It is closed Sundays but might open for lunch later. As of Dec. 23, Chan was waiting for the liquor license to sell alcohol. Chan closed the original Blue Bamboo in Southside on Dec. 11. The building, at 3820 Southside Blvd., is for sale. Chan bought, renovated and expanded a former law office at 10110 San Jose Blvd. in Mandarin, investing an estimated $2.2 million. The original building was about 4,300 square feet. Deerfield Beach-based owners of ProCraft Cabinetry Florida LLC bought the former Ja-Ru Inc. headquarters office and warehouse along Philips Highway to open its second location in the state. P&C Development Florida LLC paid $6.75 million Dec. 15 for what property records show is a 128,856-square-foot building on 5.27 acres at 4030 Philips Highway. Cathay Bank of Chicago financed the deal with a $4.69 million mortgage. Jacksonville-based Ja-Ru, a toy importer, developed and moved into a larger office-warehouse in Flagler Center. Yao Zhao, a member of the ownership group, said Dec. 18 he wanted to open in April or May after about $800,000 in upgrades to the building, which was developed in 1985. Zhao said the group is working on architecture and building design for the upgrades. He will renovate the existing office into showroom space and will improve the exterior, among other work. He expects new warehouse racking. ProCraft Cabinetry Florida LLC says on its procraftmiami.com website that it is becoming one of the nation’s largest importers and wholesalers of direct manufactured wood cabinetry in South Florida. “We offer a personal approach to SEE JA-RU PAGE 2
Land for apartments planned south of The Avenues Bainbridge Companies bought about half of a 112-acre parcel south of The Avenues mall for $8.45 million Dec. 15 and intends to develop the 372-unit Bainbridge Avenues Walk apartment community. Avenues Walk is across Philips Highway from The Avenues mall, and is adjacent to northbound lanes of Interstate 95. The sale of the other half of the property will close in January, said Walker & Dunlop multifamily specialist Bobby Gatling. Construction is expected to begin in January. The property is entitled for up to 1,050 multifamily units.
