Earth Fare joins vibrant Mandarin grocery scene
Church to lease former HHGregg Church of Eleven22 to expand with a Regency location, its fourth in city. The Church of Eleven22 wants to launch a Regency campus, which will be the Jacksonvillebased faith organization’s fourth location. The church wants to renovate the former HHGregg store at 651 Commerce Center Drive, No. 100. The store is in Southside Commons, formerly called Regency Commons. A spokeswoman said the first service there is planned Christmas Eve, with regular services starting the first week in January. The location was chosen for the convenience of those who attend. "We want to enable our people to reach their own neighborhoods with the gospel,” said Shawn Maxwell, chief operating officer. The church said it has about 8,500 attendees at all of its locations. The church also intends to launch its second Hope’s Closet thrift store in the spring in the surrounding Arlington area. Southside Commons is along the east side of the Southside Connector north of Regency Square Mall. The HHGregg electronics and appliance retailer closed its stores in April. It leased 30,000 square feet of space in the south end unit of the shopping center where it opened in 2007.

Earth Fare President and CEO Frank Scorpiniti says the company challenges other grocery chains “to come clean” in their food and products and he offers to send his executives to meet with them. “We’ll give the formula away,” he said.
As his new store opens, CEO says competition is a good sign for the neighborhood – and the city.
By Karen Brune Mathis Editor Earth Fare opens its second area store at 7 a.m. today, adding competition to the expanding grocery market in Mandarin. The 28,000-square-foot natural and organic foods retailer is in the Mandarin South Shopping Center at 11700 San Jose Blvd. Open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, Earth Fare also features a 65-seat indoor café with 16 patio seats and offers free Wi-Fi. “It’s a good sign,” said President and
CEO Frank Scorpiniti, explaining that a slate of new and remodeled grocery stores signals a strong market. “Usually you find these kinds of refreshes and new entrants in vibrant markets, so that’s a good sign for Mandarin, a good sign for Jacksonville and it foreshadows to us quite an exciting opening and success for all those businesses,” he said.
