FP&L buys 1,310 acres in Nassau Rayonier sells Crawford Diamond land for $13.1M; no announced plans for site. By Karen Brune Mathis Editor Florida Power & Light Co. bought about 1,310 acres in Nassau County in September, but hasn’t announced development plans for the purchase.
The Juno Beach-based utility bought the bulk of the 1,814-acre Crawford Diamond Industrial Park owned by Yulee-based Rayonier Inc. for $13.1 million. Florida Power & Light spokesman Stephen Heiman said the utility “is always planning ahead
to ensure we are prepared to meet the needs of our customers in the future.” “Accordingly, we routinely purchase parcels that we believe would help us meet those needs, whether they be for distribution facilities, a service center or a solar power plant,” he said. Rayonier said in its November Investor Day presentation that recent transactions included the
sale of 1,311 acres at Crawford Diamond for $10,000 an acre. The sale was recorded Sept. 7 with the Nassau County Clerk of Courts. Heiman said by being proactive and planning for the longterm, the utility is “ensuring that we maintain low bills and high reliability for all of our customers today and for years to come.” Florida Power & Light serves

Putnam: Make Amazon bids public
‘IT WAS TIME’ After 19 years practicing at some of Jacksonville’s most recognized law firms, Michael Cavendish has transitioned to sole practitioner and founded Cavendish Partners PA. “After 10 years at Gunster, I wanted to start a law firm from the ground up. It was time,” he said. After graduating from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1998, Cavendish joined the MaguireWoods firm. Six years later, he moved to Boyd & Jenerette. Cavendish helped establish Gunster’s Jacksonville office in 2007. He said when he informed the firm he was leaving after 10 years to set up his own firm, the reaction was “most amicable.” “We’ve got a great relationship. I’ll still be working with some of the same clients,” he said. Going solo was a decision that Cavendish contemplated for years, he said. He kept a notebook in which he recorded ideas about what he’d want to do if he decided to open a law firm. “The notebook got full, so I decided it was time to take on the

Bids submitted to Seattlebased Amazon.com to secure the company’s second North American headquarters should be made public by Enterprise Florida Inc., according the Florida Agriculture Commissioner and gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam. Putnam, a Bartow Republican and Enterprise Florida board member, made Putnam the comments in an interview Thursday. “If you’re going to engender the trust of the taxpayers whose hard-earned dollars are making that possible, you’ve got to be pretty open about it,” Putnam said. “We can’t play hide the ball.” Putnam said he’s not opposed to Enterprise Florida using financial incentives to lure the online retailer, but only if the agency is transparent about it. “That’s not to say that there aren’t opportunities from time to time for us to go compete to get a game changer,” said Putnam, who used The Walt Disney Putnam
