On her way Thursday morning to meet with the Ron DeSantis gubernatorial campaign in Orlando, Republican strategist Susie Wiles said she was ready to dive in a day after the North Florida congressman asked her to join. “This campaign is focused on the candidate, and what he stands for and how he is going to energize voters to support him in November,” Wiles said. The request by DeSantis, a Republican, came in the wake of sinking poll numbers in his race against Tallahassee Mayor

Andrew Gillum, a Democrat. “I strongly believe the Rick Scott legacy should be continued,” Wiles said. “The prosperity and the good things we’ve seen over the last eight years needs to continue.” Wiles managed the first gubernatorial campaign for businessman Rick Scott, who was a relatively unknown candidate, in 2010. He won that term and was re-elected in 2014. Wiles also co-chaired President Donald Trump’s successful campaign in Florida. A Quinnipiac University Poll released Sept. 26 gives Gillum a 9-point lead, with strong support from women, AfricanAmericans, Hispanic and independent

Dallas-based developer Hillwood filed plans Thursday with the city seeking civil plan review to clear a site for a second 1.5 million-square-foot warehouse at AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center. Senior Vice President Dan Tatsch said Thursday he had no comment. When an overall clearing plan was submitted early this month, Tatsch said the land was being prepared for development if a prospect needed it. No tenant or user was identified. Hillwood is the city’s master developer of AllianceFlorida at Cecil Commerce Center, a Westside business park. The plans, submitted by consultant Prosser Inc., call for early clearing for Parcels H and I. It is a 123.82-acre site bordered by POW-MIA Memorial Parkway, 103rd Street, Aviation Avenue and Cecil Pines Street. The parkway formerly was called New World Avenue. The project proposes a 1.5 million-square-foot distribution warehouse with parking, truck storage and associated infrastructure.
