13th Floor Haunted House and the Jacksonville Axe Throwing Class Axe to open Sept. 28.

Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group is investing in two venues in Regency Court Shopping Center in Arlington – a 13th Floor Haunted House and the Jacksonville Axe Throwing Class Axe. Landlord Mishorim Gold Jacksonville LP says both are expected to open Sept. 28 at the 9230 Arlington Expressway property for both venues. Let’s answer this question immediately: Anyone appearing intoxicated won’t be allowed to throw axes. Those unfamiliar with ax-throwing as a form of fun can check classaxethrowing.com/jacksonville/ and see that the sport involves competitors throwing at a target, trying to get as close as possible to the bull’s-eye.

The 1½-hour experience involves first learning the safety rules about handling an ax and then competition. Participants will be with an instructor “at all times,” the site says. The cost is $32, plus an almost $3 processing fee, and corporate rates are available for groups of at least 12. Thirteenth Floor says the experience is good for corporate team-building, birthday and bachelor and bachelorette parties and for date night. No alcohol is served although the site says participants can bring their own beer. No hard alcohol is allowed. Participants must be at least 15 years old to throw an ax and, of course, 21 to drink. Marconi and Edison are the names of the first two neighborhoods to be built in eTown, a 1,478-acre mixed-use community in southern Duval County. The announcement, via email and social media, said David Weekley Homes and ICI Homes are partnering to build homes in Marconi and Toll Brothers will build in Edison. Marconi homes will start in the mid-$300,000s on 50- and 60-foot-wide lots. Homes in Edison will start in the high-$300,000s with oneor two-story designs from 2,500 square feet to more than 4,000 square feet. The announcement said the communities will open in summer 2019. Officials with eTown, David Weekley, ICI and Toll Brothers did not respond to requests for comment. David Weekley and Toll Brothers bought property in eTown east of Interstate 295 and Florida 9B. The release did not say how many homes the builders would construct. Other residential builders also have plans for eTown. Catalyst Development Partners will build apartments and Pulte bought property but has not announced plans. The PARC Group is developing eTown for the Davis family, which owns the land through Eastland Timber LLC. The property primarily is east of I-295 and Florida 9B, with some property to the west. The website is eTownJax.com.
