NewRez, a national mortgage lending and servicing company, announced Aug. 18 it will more than double its employee count in Jacksonville. The company opened a service center in Jacksonville in March as part of an asset acquisition of mortgage lender Ditech, a news release said. The Jacksonville office will be NewRez’s fourth service center. It hired 90 former Ditech employees to staff it. Ditech closed its Jacksonville office in January, laying off 305 employees. It leased space on the 21st and 22nd floors of the TIAA Bank building at 301 W. Bay St. Downtown. That address, formerly EverBank space, is shown online as NewRez’s Jacksonville location. “Jacksonville has been a true partner in our ability to attract world-class talent,” Baron Silverstein, president NewRez LLC, said in the release. “With growth expected in all of our business divisions, we will be hiring a wide variety of professionals, and know we can find them here.” NewRez will add at least 100 employees by the fall, with the possibility to add more. Positions will be in mortgage sales, loan processing, underwriting and collections. Corporate support positions include recruiting, training and information technology. NewRez also will launch its community investment initiative called NewRez Neighborhood

Bill to repay Metropolitan Park grants withdrawn City Council’s Finance Committee voted unanimously Aug. 18 to withdraw Ordinance 2020-0555. If enacted, it would have appropriated $1.725 million to reimburse the state and federal governments for grants awarded in 1981 that were used to create Metropolitan Park. Brian Hughes, Mayor Lenny Curry’s chief administrative officer, said the bill no longer is needed because it was introduced to start a dialog with state and federal partners. “The dialog continues,” Hughes said. The park adjoins the Shipyards and Lot J properties planned for development.
