Medical-products distributor Sarnova is disclosing which of its companies will open in Jacksonville. The city is reviewing two permit applications for Sarnova to install conveyors and highpile racking systems at Park 295 Industrial Park for two companies: Bound Tree Medical and Tri-anim Health Services. Bound Tree distributes prehospital emergency medical supplies, equipment and pharmaceuticals for EMS providers. A permit shows a $182,000 project to install equipment in 72,600 square feet. Tri-anim provides respiratory, anesthesia and critical care products and therapies to hospitals, health systems and other patient care facilities nationwide. A permit shows a $74,000 project to install equipment in 58,200 square feet of space. The racking systems are for palletized goods. The projects total $256,000.

First Coast Hurricane Shutters is preparing for the storm season by moving into a new headquarters and fabrication facility. The company that was formed by Brent Durban in 2019 bought a 9,500-square-

foot facility May 5 at 3521 St. Augustine Road for $525,000. The company previously operated out of Durban’s home in the St. Johns Bluff area. Durban teamed with Durban high school friend Shaun Mayberry, vice president of Prime Realty Inc., to find the site. The two played basketball at Bishop Snyder High School, graduating in 2008. “I told Shaun that I wanted to buy a new place if we found the right spot. It checked off many of the boxes – size,

Winn-Dixie debuting WDS liquor-store format Southeastern Grocers is renovating in Miramar Center near San Marco. BY KAREN BRUNE MATHIS EDITOR

Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers is building-out a new Winn-Dixie liquor store format in Miramar Center, not far from the historic San Marco neighborhood. Williams & Rowe Co. Inc. is the contractor for the estimated $180,000 interior renovation of 8,640 square feet for Winn-Dixie at 4472 Hendricks Ave. in Miramar Center. That cost could change before the permit is issued. The site is at the southern end of the building anchored by Players Grille. The store is larger than the traditional Winn-Dixie Wine & Spirits stores. For example, the new store being added at 11380 Beach Blvd. is 2,665 square feet. Southeastern Grocers did not share details about the new Miramar store. “We’re committed to offering a unique shopping experience to the community with a new, tailored liquor store format, which will open before the end of the year.

Durban employs 14 people and said he hasn’t had trouble hiring workers. His crews have stayed with the company. He cites his incentive program as the reason. Called “Better People, Better Projects,” he rewards his team with paidtime-off credits for jobs that are completed on time and without customer complaints. The credits can be used to provide pay if a worker calls in sick or to be paid during holidays. These are benefits many construction workers do not receive, Durban said. “I think it is important to have a worklife balance. Labor field workers are undervalued in general,” he said. “It’s important to me that when everybody is seemingly being pushed to go to college, there are not so many guys who are great with their hands out there. How can I get them to come and work for us?”

Sarnova, based in Dublin, Ohio, will lease the space, totaling almost 131,000 square feet of distribution facilities, at 2619 Ignition Drive in Building B. Stratum Corp. of Jacksonville Beach is the contractor for the conveyor and racking system. On May 4, the city issued a permit for Dav-Lin Interior Contractors Inc. to build-out the space for Sarnova in Unit 2 at a cost of $2.45 million. Jacksonville City Council approved a $260,000 grant Feb. 9 for Sarnova, code-named as Project Robalo, to lease space in Northwest Jacksonville for its Southeastern U.S. distribution center.

Sarnova matches the description of Robalo as a national pharmaceutical and medical device distributor. As Project Robalo, the company told city Office of Economic Development officials that it will invest $6.72 million and create 25 full-time jobs by year-end 2023 under the economic development agreement tied to the bill. The city requires the company to make a minimum $3 million capital investment in the project site by Dec. 31, 2023, to receive the Recapture Enhanced Value Grant.
