TIAA Bank is new name after merger with TIAA Direct By David Cawton Staff Writer Jacksonville-based EverBank Financial Corp. becomes TIAA Bank after its merger with TIAA Direct. A spokeswoman for EverBank said the announcement was sent first to employees and customers Friday and that a larger “celebration” of the merger would be planned later. TIAA Bank also is likely to become the name on the buildings Downtown that were leased or sponsored by

EverBank – its headquarters at 501 Riverside Ave., its operations center at 301 W. Bay St. and the city-owned stadium used by the Jacksonville Jaguars. For the 2018-19 NFL season, the team announced Friday it will play at TIAA Bank Field – a change subject to league and City Council approval. Industry reports resurfaced over the weekend that WinnDixie’s parent company was preparing for a bankruptcy filing, a prediction first reported in November. This time, however, a few more expectations were included – that the filing could be as soon as March and that almost 200 of Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers LLC’s stores – or more than a quarter – could close about the same time. The Bloomberg news service, citing unidentified sources, said Bi-Lo LLC was planning to close the stores before or after the filing. Reuters also filed a report. Southeastern Grocers was formed after Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. merged with Greenville, South Carolina-based Bi-Lo LLC in 2012, with the headquarters put in Winn-Dixie’s Jacksonville offices. It operates more than 700 supermarkets in seven Southeastern states, employing more than 50,000 people. Southeastern Grocers owns Winn-Dixie, Bi-Lo, Harveys and Fresco Y Mas stores. About 30 Winn-Dixie stores and eight Harveys operate in the Jacksonville area. Southeastern Grocers issued a statement Saturday that was similar to the one it did in November. Mathis

UNF seeks $380,000 loan for Barnett campus University plans entrepreneurial incubation center. By David Cawton Staff Writer The Downtown Investment Authority takes up a $380,000 loan Wednesday for the University of North Florida to build-out a Downtown satellite campus in the Barnett Bank Building. The DIA will meet at 2:30 p.m. in the Lynwood Roberts Room at City Hall.

The Barnett Bank Building at 112 W. Adams St. is being redeveloped into a mixed-use office, retail, education and housing development by SouthEast Development Group and The Molasky Group of Cos. UNF said in October it plans to lease the space to create the Entrepreneurial Development and Business Incubation Center and to house undergraduate and graduate-level classes. According to a term sheet filed with the DIA, the state school plans to lease up to 13,306 square feet on the fourth and fifth floors of the 18-story building.

For the first three years, UNF will pay $1 per square foot, or $1,108.83 per month. The next two years, the school will pay $20 per square foot, for a total annual lease of $266,120. The school plans to employ 10 faculty and staff members along with 20 students who will participate in entrepreneurial programs. In October, Dean Mark Dawkins of the UNF Coggin College of Business said participants would be able to pitch ideas to a panel of experts for a chance to win up to UNF
