JEA headquarters decision moved to April

The JEA board of directors will not select a new location for the company’s corporate headquarters until April. A corporate email sent to
employees Tuesday outlines a new schedule for the utility that pushes a final decision to the week of April 8, two months after it was scheduled to consider making a choice. “This additional time will allow for a public review period of the
Public Information Package, sufficient time to vet each proposal and fully negotiate a Best and Final Offer in the best interest of JEA and the public, and accommodation of JEA’s Board scheduling needs,” the email states. JEA board Chair Alan Howard did not return a call for comment. On Jan. 8, JEA received six submissions from interested parties. That list was narrowed to three
finalists Jan. 22. The board of directors will meet Tuesday for presentations from the finalists: n Ryan Companies US Inc. seeks to either redevelop JEA’s existing campus at 21 W. Church St. or build nearby at 325 W. Adams St. on the Northbank. n Kings Avenue Station P3 LLC, led by Mike Balanky, would develop property he owns near
Kings Avenue Station at 1201 Kings Ave. on the Southbank. n Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan and The Cordish Companies are seeking JEA as its corporate anchor for the Lot J development near TIAA Bank Field. JEA anticipated that a decision might have been made at that

Park 295 is under development at southwest Duval and Armsdale roads off Interstate 295 in North Jacksonville. The city recently approved construction of the park’s first building — the 552,634-squarefoot speculative multitenant “Building B” — at 2619 Ignition
Drive at a cost of $21.75 million. Completion is expected in April. No tenant was announced, but a marketing flyer shows that 203,463 square feet of Building B is leased. The second structure, the 436,100-square-foot “Building C,” is planned along Ignition
Drive to the west of Building B. No tenant is identified in the conditional concurrency availability statement. Newmark Phoenix Realty Group is representing the property. SEE MATHIS, PAGE 3

VyStar renovating its HQ tower VyStar Credit Union continues renovations on its 23-story Downtown headquarters tower, which it intends to occupy this year. The city approved a permit Monday for an $8 million renovation of seven floors by contractor Dana B. Kenyon Co. President and CEO Brian Wolfburg said previously the total remodel will cover up to 200,000 square feet of space over 16 floors at the 358,278-square-foot tower. VyStar also will open a branch office. VyStar bought the building at 76 S. Laura St. in July for $59 million.
