The Target store at 9041 Southside Blvd. is slated for renovation as part of the Minneapolis-based chain’s systemwide remodeling.

Retailer’s $1.1 million renovation will add digital experiences, new design elements.

Target at Southside Square will be one of the more than 1,000 stores the Minneapolis-based chain will update and renovate by 2020. “The reimagined stores will feature Target’s most ambitious store redesign to date, featuring modernized design elements and bringing more technology and digital experiences to our store to give guests an experience that’s easy and inspiring,” said spokeswoman Liz Hancock in an email. Hancock said Target remodeled 110 stores in 2017 and plans to renovate more than 325 loca-

tions in 2018, including some in Florida. She did not say whether other Jacksonville area Target stores will be remodeled and she did not have a time frame for the Southside Square project. “Once the remodel is underway, we can provide more information on remodel scope and timing,” she said. A building permit is pending for the job. No contractor is listed for the $1.1 million project, referred to as the 2018 remodel. Cuhaci & Peterson Architects Engineers Planners is the architect. Exterior façade renovations also are planned to the 115,231-squarefoot store at 9041 Southside Blvd. Corporate.target.com reports it Mathis

Modern design

The downtown Minneapolis store features a more modern design, with concrete floors, wood-plank walls, LED lighting and elevated product displays.

Bay St. “We felt like it was the perfect fit, given the size of that building,” said Profit Eugene Profit. The 55-year-old, 79,000square-foot building is set to become a 90-room boutique hotel with a rooftop restaurant and bar. Profit, a former NFL player whose investment business is based in Bethesda, Maryland, said last week he believes the Hotel Indigo brand could thrive Downtown.
