Records Smashed Again Kerin Poll Average $3096 for 500 Sale Rams

Kerin Poll Merino Stud broke it’s sale average record by $592 and it’s Australian record for the number of rams sold at the Kerin family’s recent 11th on-property sale at Yeoval. The total auction clearance of 500 rams, 50 more than last year’s record, grossed an Australian Merino record $1.548 Million to average $3096. Rams sold to returning clients and new buyers from 6 states including NSW, Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia. Returning buyers, the Wykes family, Mount Top, Euchareena, paid $10,000 top price for a 19 micron ram among 26 purchases averaging $4058 for their family properties running approximately 10,000 ewes. The brothers Brett Murray and Alan Wykes said they weren’t going to let go of the ram as it was true-to-type and “pretty complete in breeding value figures and wool type”. Three rams sold at $9000 and another three at $8000. Kerin Poll principal Nigel Kerin said the optimism in the sheep industry spilled over to the sales results. “We are having a great season in many parts of Australia and commodity prices for lamb and mutton are excellent,” Mr Kerin said. “There has been a correction in wool prices, but these are more than compensated for by the incredible returns we are receiving for finishing stock, or surplus stock.” “It has shown the value of Merinos that are bred to tick all the boxes.” Mr Kerin said Merino buyers were now looking for a group of attributes in their rams which could earn them money - fertility, early maturity and high weaning weights. Early maturing sheep translated into not only the ability to target the prime lamb market but also breed from ewe lambs. Mr Kerin said Covid-19 was a blessing in disguise and allowed him to focus totally on clients rather than rely on field days. An extensive newsletter had also been used to inform clients on the stud’s direction. Successful buyers totaled 60 while many more purchased through Auctions Plus bought 39 rams for online buyers. Conor Joins the B&L team The team would like to welcome Conor Lamond to Bowyer & Livermore. Conor is excited to be joining the team and will be working with clients in Cowra, Canowindra and surrounding areas. Triumphant Tigers

Oberon Tigers add another title to their proud history THE rich history of premierships for Oberon continued last Saturday as the Dallas Booth-led Tigers defeated CSU Mungoes 23-10 in a dominant performance to take out the 2020 Wallerawang Landscape Cup. It’s been 17 years since the Tigers have taken a title, and it was fitting that team manager Johnny McGrath and strapper Tony “Chillie” Curry were part of that squad in 2003. Although the Tigers were minor premiers, they came into the game having been beaten 14-10 in their last encounter with CSU. Coach Booth had said all along that the squad would learn from that loss, and they did. Strong defence led by Dave Sellers, Daniel Rodgers and Charlie Bailey nullified CSU’s late surge and Rivett sealed the result shortly after with a field goal to post the final scoreline of 23-10. Booth praised the efforts of his team, singling out Marston, who he said created the platform for the team’s attack throughout the game. Fitzpatrick, Sellers and Rodgers all put in huge performances. At the presentation ceremony, Rivett was named man of the match and Jacob Howes was awarded the trophy for the competition’s highest try-scorer of the season. This year the Tigers’ season was not only about the performances on the field, but equally about the off-field achievements. The club were proud to be able to host both the mental health awareness and suicide prevention round, and the Can Assist charity round which raised a record amount in excess of $21,300.
