W HOME HELPERS

hen I think back on my childhood, one of the clearest images I carry is of my mom, constantly in motion around the house. She was the heartbeat of our home—cooking meals, scrubbing dishes, folding endless piles of laundry, and keeping everything running. It seemed effortless then, but now I see just how much work she

was putting into things to keep the house running.

Today, many of us find ourselves trying to juggle that same balance. Between work, kids’ activities, social commitments, and the unexpected curveballs of daily life, it can feel overwhelming to manage everything under one roof. The truth is, a tidy home and a healthy family life don’t just

come from sheer willpower— they often require support. And asking for help doesn’t mean we’re failing; it means we’re realistic, resourceful, and prioritizing what matters most. That’s where home services step in. Whether it’s hiring someone to clean once a month, calling in a landscaper to tame the yard, or getting help with a repair that’s been lingering on the

to-do list, these services ease the pressure so we can focus on what truly makes a house a home—the people in it. This magazine is about celebrating that balance— honoring the dedication of those who came before us, like my mom, while embracing the tools and services available today. Because at the end of the day, caring for our homes

isn’t just about chores and checklists—it’s about creating a space where family, friends, and memories can flourish.

Patriot Air is a proud corporate sponsor for the Veterans Honor Flight of ND/MN.

The Veterans Honor Flight of ND/ MN is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring America’s veterans by providing them with free trips to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials built in their honor.

• Change your filters every 1–3 months to improve air quality and efficiency.

• Listen for unusual sounds—they’re often early warnings.

• Schedule seasonal maintenance for peak performance and fewer breakdowns.

• Ask about air quality upgrades if allergies or asthma are a concern.

Every member of Patriot Air’s small but mighty crew shares a deep connection to the trades. Jenny, Tom’s fiancée and the company’s dispatcher, comes from four generations of tradespeople—her great-grandfather and grandfather were blacksmiths, and her father a drywaller. David, one of Patriot Air’s technicians, is also a secondgeneration tradesman who came to the area for college track before pivoting into HVAC. Their apprentice is an Air Force veteran, who brings the same discipline and dedication to customer service that he brought to serving the country.

This lineage matters. It means the people walking into your home have more than technical knowhow—they have a heritage of hard work, pride in their craft, and a commitment to doing right by their neighbors.

Patriot Air isn’t about upselling you into the biggest system on the market. They’re about finding the right solution for your situation—whether that means a simple repair to buy you time for a replacement or building the “Taj Mahal” of indoor air systems for customers who want all the bells and whistles.

One week, they might help a family extend the life of their current AC so they can save for a new one. The next, they might design a full comfort package complete with humidifier, air purifier, and advanced filtration for allergy relief. All along the way they ask themselves, "What’s right for this customer, right now?"

People Are Saying What

About Everest Regenerative Medicine?

Everest Regenerative Medicine has been earning praise from patients across the region, thanks to its focus on advanced treatments, personalized care, and results that make a real difference. From the first consultation to the final follow-up, people describe feeling heard, supported, and genuinely cared for. The clinic's combination of innovative technology and a welcoming, knowledgeable team has inspired patients to share their experiences—and the transformations they’ve seen—so others can discover what’s possible. Here’s what they have to say.

Sharie sought help for incontinence, vaginal dryness, and discomfort during intimacy—issues that worsened with age. She underwent Morpheus8V, a radio-frequency microneedling treatment designed for vaginal health. After two of the recommended three sessions, she reported dramatic improvement in bladder control, moisture, and intimacy comfort, along with enhanced confidence. She also praised the supportive, welcoming environment at Everest.

It has made a world of difference — not only for my incontinence, but for my intimate life and overall confidence."
Sharie – Morpheus8V

Poonam – Morpheus8

Poonam wanted a natural alternative to Botox and fillers after significant weight loss left her with looser skin, dark circles, and mild sagging. She chose Morpheus8, a combination of microneedling and radio-frequency, to stimulate collagen production and improve skin texture and tightness—especially around her eyelids, under-eyes, and jawline. After a series of three treatments, she reported tightened skin, reduced dark circles, and restored facial firmness without injectables.

Glacial Peak Cryotherapy

Nearly a decade ago, after recovering from a serious car accident and seeing firsthand the potential of cryotherapy, Pam Bradow left her dental hygiene career behind to bring something new to Fargo—cryotherapy. The result? Glacial Peak Cryotherapy, the area’s only business of its kind, offering proactive wellness support through cryotherapy, light therapy, and compression therapy.

Glacial Peak Cryotherapy doesn't just treat athletes with injuries. They treat parents, students, retirees, and everyday folks looking for a smarter way to take care of their health.

Let’s start with the science. Inflammation, while part of the body’s natural healing process, becomes harmful when it lingers. Chronic inflammation can contribute to everything from joint pain to fatigue to reduced immune function.

Whole-body cryotherapy, Glacial Peak’s cornerstone offering, tackles inflammation head-on by exposing the body to ultra-low temperatures in a specialized Cryo-Sauna for just two to three minutes. While the skin feels cold, your core temperature stays safe, and your body goes into "protect and repair" mode, pushing the blood to your vital organs.

Once the session ends, the nutrient-rich blood full of enzymes and oxygen gets pushed back to your extremities, where it boosts recovery, reduces pain, and promotes a general sense of energy and well-being. Think of it as vitamin C for inflammation, or as Pam puts it, “like a cup of coffee—but better for you.”

Cryotherapy has been shown to particularly helpful for:

• Reducing joint and muscle pain

• Boosting immune system response

• Improving sleep quality

• Enhancing mental clarity

• Supporting faster injury recovery

• Helping regulate hormones and mood

And while it’s popular among athletes—especially during football and basketball seasons—it’s not limited to them. Glacial Peak serves everyone from kids with growing pains to active teens to seniors with neuropathy. Some clients even bring their whole family, discovering the benefits of consistent cryo sessions for all ages.

Step into sub-zero temperatures for a whole-body reset. JUKA Cryosauna uses ultra-cold liquid nitrogen to stimulate circulation, reduce inflammation, and jumpstart natural healing in just minutes.

Session Length: 2–3 minutes

Benefits:

• Rapid muscle recovery

• Reduced inflammation and joint pain

• Boosted metabolism and endorphin release

Cryosauna Cryo T-Elephant

Experience precision-targeted cold therapy. Whether for facial rejuvenation or rapid relief of localized pain and flare-ups, the Cryo T-Elephant delivers focused healing and revitalization where you need it most.

Used For: Cryo Facials or Spot Treatments

Benefits:

• Reduces puffiness and fine lines

• Soothes localized pain and inflammation

• Targets acne, rosacea, and skin irritation

• Stimulates hair follicles with blood flow

NEO Light Bed

Relax beneath waves of healing light. The NEO Light Bed offers customizable LED therapy to recharge your cells, calm your nervous system, and leave your skin glowing.

Color Options & Benefits:

• Red: Stimulates cell regeneration and collagen, reduces inflammation

• Green: Promotes relaxation, may help with migraines and anxiety

• Blue: Uplifts mood and helps reduce acne-causing bacteria

Cryo T-Shock

From sculpting to soothing, Cryo T-Shock uses alternating warm and cold therapy to target fat cells, tone skin, and relieve muscle discomfort—without surgery or downtime.

Benefits:

• Fat freezing and body contouring

• Natural face-lifting and skin tightening

• Chronic muscle tension relief

BOA Max2

Feel lighter and refreshed. The BOA Max2 uses rhythmic compression to enhance circulation, detoxify the body, and ease muscle soreness— perfect for athletes and wellness seekers alike.

Benefits:

• Stimulates lymphatic drainage

• Speeds recovery from sport fatigue

• Reduces swelling and water retention

Glacial Peak’s NEO Light Therapy Bed uses red, blue, and green light to energize cells, reduce inflammation, and even enhance mood.

• Red light boosts ATP production (your body’s energy currency), encourages cellular detox, and supports skin and muscle repair.

• Blue light addresses acne and skin conditions, while promoting a calming effect.

• Green light targets mental fatigue and migraines, improving emotional resilience and clarity.

After a session, clients often describe feeling “charged up,” tingly, and refreshed—like stepping out into sunshine after a long winter.

Recovery doesn’t end with cold and light. Glacial Peak also offers NormaTec and BOA Max compression therapies, which use rhythmic air pressure to help move blood and lymph fluid throughout the body. These treatments are especially beneficial for:

• Improving circulation

• Reducing swelling and soreness

• Speeding recovery from injury or surgery

• Supporting detox and immune health

Used regularly, compression therapy can help people of all ages—from athletes to desk workers to aging adults—feel lighter, less swollen, and more mobile.

While people often come to Glacial Peak after an injury, Pam wishes more would come before problems start. Think of these therapies like preventive maintenance for your body—just like stretching before a run or getting regular dental cleanings.

Clients who incorporate cryo and light sessions during their sports seasons often recover faster, avoid major injuries, and stay mentally sharper. Pam especially loves helping student-athletes stay in the game while also supporting their overworked parents with stress relief and energy boosts of their own.

Beyond her services, Pam believes in meeting people where they are. She offers free mini sessions at local gyms and events, giving new clients a chance to experience cryotherapy without pressure. She also keeps sessions short, efficient, and accessible—making it easier to fit wellness into busy lives.

With a steady clientele of loyal women, men, parents, and professionals in their 20s through 60s—and clients as young as six or as old as 90— Pam has quietly become one of the community’s most trusted partners in proactive wellness.

NormaTec Compression

Recover like the pros. NormaTec’s dynamic compression system flushes out fatigue, reduces soreness, and leaves your limbs feeling recharged—ideal after intense training or long days on your feet.

Benefits:

• Enhances blood flow and lymph movement

• Reduces muscle soreness and swelling

• Speeds post-exercise recovery

Step on, feel the shake, and elevate your wellness. The VBX Vibration Plate activates muscle fibers, boosts circulation, and supports mental clarity—all in just a few focused minutes.

Benefits:

• Eases muscle tension and anxiety

• Supports bone density and joint stability

• Enhances circulation and core engagement

Boulger Funeral Home: F

For more than a century, Boulger Funeral Home has been a steady presence in the Red River Valley, guiding families through some of life’s most difficult moments. Now in its fourth generation of family ownership, the business has grown into one of the largest funeral homes in North Dakota—a distinction owner and funeral director Jim Boulger credits to his dedicated staff, continual investment in facilities, and a commitment to treating every family with dignity and care.

“People like that we’re still local,” Boulger said. “You can still call here and get a Boulger. That’s rare these days.”

Facilities Designed

for

Comfort and Connection

Following a recent remodel, Boulger Funeral Home now boasts the largest chapel in the Red River Valley and surrounding communities, seating up to 250 guests, along with a bright, updated luncheon hall that seats 135 without a single stair to climb. The spaces are warm, modern, and equipped with the latest technology—including full live-streaming and professional-grade audio-visual systems—ensuring loved ones near and far can participate.

“Our facilities are honestly some of the nicest you’ll find,” Boulger said. “We invest in technology and comfort because that’s part of serving families well.”

Jim Boulger’s Top Tips For Planning Ahead

• Communicate: Make sure loved ones know where important documents and insurance policies are.

• Be Specific: Decide on service location, type, and any personal touches.

• Write It Down: Whether you pre-fund or not, document your wishes.

• Consider Your Obituary: You know your story best—writing it yourself ensures accuracy and personality.

• Think Long-Term: Planning while healthy makes the process easier on everyone.

In January, Boulger Funeral Home opened its own in-house crematory, a decision years in the making. By bringing the service in-house, families’ loved ones remain in Boulger’s care from start to finish, and costs are often significantly lower than those at other area funeral homes.

“It’s been a huge benefit,” Boulger said. “We can offer more affordable cremation options, and we’ve eliminated the need to involve multiple providers.”

Grief Support— For Everyone A Rare In-House Crematory

Boulger offers a free, in-house grief support program. Staffed by compassionate pastors and grief coordinators, the program includes monthly classes, drop-in sessions, one-on-one counseling, and even “grief yoga.”

“You don’t have to use our funeral services to come,” Boulger said. “It’s open to anyone in the community."

Serving With Compassion—

No Matter the Circumstances

Boulger Funeral Home regularly provides pro bono services for infant deaths and conducts hundreds of social services funerals each year for individuals without the means to pay. These include indigent and homeless individuals.

“It’s a moral obligation,” Boulger said. “We treat every family the same, whether they have money or not.”

• In-House Crematory – Opened in January 2025, keeping loved ones in Boulger’s care from start to finish.

• Largest Chapel in the Red River Valley and Surrounding Communities

– Seating for 250 guests with modern AV and live-streaming.

• Free Grief Support for All – Classes, counseling, and grief yoga, open to the community.

Boulger’s Unique Offerings

• Pro Bono Services – Infant deaths, social services funerals, and indigent care.

• Unique Discounted Veterans Packages

Helping the ‘Sandwich Generation’ Plan Ahead

Boulger frequently works with clients in what he calls the “sandwich generation”— adults caring for both young children and aging parents. He encourages families to talk about end-of-life wishes before they’re urgently needed, whether or not they choose to pre-fund arrangements.

“It’s so much easier to make these decisions when everyone’s healthy,” he said. “Even just writing down your wishes or your obituary can make a huge difference for your loved ones.”

Rooted in History, Focused

Advice for When a Death Happens on the Future Away

Founded more than 100 years ago, Boulger Funeral Home continues to evolve while honoring its heritage. Along with its flagship location in Fargo, the firm operates in Hillsboro and Kindred, allowing families who move to the city to continue working with the people they know and trust.

From Home

One of Boulger’s most practical tips comes from experience: if a death occurs while traveling, call the funeral home where you want the service to be held. “That way, you only deal with one funeral home,” he said. “It saves money and simplifies everything.”

Helpers!

A HOME IS MORE THAN WOOD, BRICK, OR SIDING—IT’S WHERE MORNINGS BEGIN WITH COFFEE IN THE KITCHEN, WHERE KIDS RACE DOWN HALLWAYS, AND WHERE EVENINGS WIND DOWN ON THE COUCH. IT’S THE PLACE THAT SHELTERS US, COMFORTS US, AND REFLECTS WHO WE ARE. BUT BEHIND EVERY COZY CORNER AND EVERY WELL-KEPT YARD ARE THE COUNTLESS SERVICES THAT MAKE HOMEOWNERSHIP POSSIBLE.

FROM REPAIRS AND RENOVATIONS TO LANDSCAPING, CLEANING, AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN, THE FARGO–MOORHEAD–WEST FARGO AREA IS FILLED WITH PROFESSIONALS WHO KEEP OUR HOMES RUNNING SMOOTHLY.

THIS MAGAZINE IS DEDICATED TO HIGHLIGHTING THOSE SERVICES, CONNECTING YOU WITH THE PEOPLE AND BUSINESSES THAT HELP TRANSFORM A HOUSE INTO A HOME WORTH COMING BACK TO EVERY DAY.

Q: What are the most overlooked areas in a typical home cleaning routine?

"A few spots get missed more often than you'd think, like ceiling fans, baseboards, light switch plates, and the tops of doors. People also forget under furniture, especially under beds and couches. That’s why I love using a Shark Rocket vacuum it’s lightweight and can easily reach those tight spaces. Another one is inside appliances. Dishwashers and washing machines need a good scrub now and then to stay fresh."

Q: What cleaning products do you recommend for homeowners?

"I always say keep it simple. One of my absolute favorites is Dawn dish soap, you can use it on everything from windows to countertops, and just one drop in a warm bucket of water makes perfect mop water."

Trisha Lake, Owner, TLC Cleaning

Q:

"But I also have to mention our Clean multipurpose spray in-house with all-natural ingredients, and it's safe for your whole family. It smells amazing, works incredibly well, and you can grab a bottle right from our website. Our clients are obsessed with it. It's become a staple in a lot of homes we clean."

1. "Clean a little every day. You don’t need to do everything at once, just 15 minutes a day can make a huge difference."

2. "Work top to bottom. Always start higher up (like shelves or fans) and work your way down so dust doesn’t settle on what you’ve already

3. "Use products you trust. Whether it’s something like Dawn or our Simply Clean spray, the right tools make all the difference."

"Keeping a clean home doesn’t have to be complicated, it just takes consistency and a few solid go-to products you love."

Q: Why is seasonal HVAC inspection so important in North Dakota?

Eric Boettner, Owner, Bears Home Solutions

"Seasonal HVAC Inspections are so important because they allow homeowners to catch adjustments that can be made to their system before they become a bigger repair bill at the worst possible time (when it's coldest or hottest and the most stress is placed on the system). They are also important because they allow a homeowner with equipment under warranty to maintain that warranty—similar to getting your oil changed on your car. Lastly, it can assist the homeowner in keeping their utility bills down as these inspections often uncover inefficiencies that a highly skilled tech can rectify."

Q: What’s one simple maintenance tip that could prevent a big HVAC bill?

"Make sure to have a reminder to regularly check and change your air filters. Not only does it decrease your utility bills, it also prolongs the life of your system by eliminating unnecessary stress that can lead to larger repair bills and/or replacing your system early. Simply changing out your filters on a regular basis could add 5-10 years to the life of your system which is equal to thousands of dollars."

Q: Are there signs that an HVAC system is about to fail?

"Signs that an HVAC system is about to fail are it not maintaining temperature that you've set at the thermostat, loud noises like grinding and also any sort of burning smell coming from your system could be a sign that you need to call an HVAC professional ASAP."

Q: What’s your advice for new homeowners tackling snow for the first time?

1. Get Ahead of It

• Don’t wait for a storm to hit. Clear light snow early and often—it’s easier than hacking through 6" of packed stuff later.

• Mark your property lines, driveways, and walkways with driveway markers before the ground freezes. It'll help you avoid tearing up your lawn or hitting hidden edges with a shovel or snowblower.

2. Invest in the Right Gear

• Snow shovel: Go ergonomic with a curved handle to save your back.

Brady Rinke, Chief Operating Officer, Precision Lawn & Landscap

• Snowblower: If you’ve got a long driveway, it’s worth it. Gas-powered ones handle deep or wet snow better than electric.

• Ice melt: Get pet-safe or plant-safe types if needed. Apply before storms to make shoveling easier.

3. Don’t Underestimate Ice

• Black ice is sneaky. Keep a bucket of sand, salt, or gravel near your door for traction.

• De-ice stairs and walkways regularly to prevent injuries and liability.

4. Clear More Than Just the Driveway

• Shovel a path to garbage bins and mailboxes. The mail doesn’t stop just because it snowed.

• Keep vents, utility meters, and downspouts clear to prevent carbon monoxide buildup or water damage.

5. Watch Your Roof

• Ice dams form when snow melts and refreezes at the eaves. This can lead to leaks inside your home. Use a roof rake to clear heavy snow from edges.

• Know when to call a pro—don’t risk climbing a ladder in winter conditions.

6. Be Realistic

• Hire out if needed. If you're short on time, energy, or equipment, hiring a local snow removal service is a smart move. Consistency matters more than heroics.

7. Know Local Rules

• Cities often have ordinances about how quickly you need to clear sidewalks after a snowfall. Avoid fines by staying on top of it.

Bonus Tip:

Layer Up Right

You’ll warm up fast while shoveling. Wear layers that you can peel off as needed, and keep gloves, a hat, and waterproof boots in your winter kit.

Q: Is there a preferred deicer for the local climate?

adverse impacts of salt. Sand simply creates a rough surface on the ice layer to aid in travel—it will not melt the ice like salt does. The best option is 100% up to the homeowner. Salt is great for melting the ice, but it leaves a residue that can impact the aesthetics of your concrete, pavement, landscape beds, and organic life. Sand has fewer adverse effects, but can be a little messy to clean up in the spring and only puts a temporary band-aid on the problem.

Q: What are some mistakes you see homeowners make when it comes to managing snow?

1. Waiting Too Long to Shovel or Plow

• Why it’s a mistake: Letting snow sit and get compacted makes it much harder to remove. If temps rise and refreeze, it turns into dangerous ice.

• Better approach: Shovel in intervals during heavy snowfalls and clear before walking or driving compresses it.

2. Using the Wrong Tools

• Why it’s a mistake: Cheap plastic shovels break, and dull snowblower blades can’t cut through thick snow or ice.

• Better approach: Invest in a quality ergonomic shovel or maintain your snowblower regularly.

3. Ignoring Ice Buildup

• Why it’s a mistake: Ice causes slips, lawsuits, and roof damage (ice dams).

• Better approach: Use ice melt or sand early. Install roof edge heaters or keep attic temps consistent to prevent ice dams.

4. Piling Snow in the Wrong Places

• Why it’s a mistake: Snow piles near your foundation can cause flooding in the spring. Piles too close to driveways or walkways can reduce visibility and create drifting.

• Better approach: Push snow away from your home and pile it where it won’t block sightlines or melt into your basement.

5. Overusing Salt or the Wrong Kind

• Why it’s a mistake: Too much salt damages concrete, landscaping, and pets’ paws. Some salts stop working below certain temps.

• Better approach: Use the right kind of melt for the temperature (calcium chloride works in colder weather) and apply sparingly.

6. Forgetting to Clear Vents, Hydrants, and Meters

• Why it’s a mistake: Blocked gas vents = carbon monoxide risk. Buried hydrants = delayed response in an emergency.

• Better approach: Keep these areas clear every time you shovel.

7. Neglecting Preventative Maintenance

• Why it’s a mistake: A snowblower that won’t start during a storm is useless.

• Better approach: Service snow equipment in the fall. Mark your driveway edges before snow hits to avoid turf or sprinkler damage.

8. Not Having a Plan

• Why it’s a mistake: Trying to find someone to plow or shovel during a storm often means you’re too late.

• Better approach: Line up service early in the season—or create a snow management routine so you’re not caught off guard.

What paint types or finishes are best for durability?

"For interior walls, we prefer Sherwin-Williams Duration Home. It’s durable, covers well, and holds up in high-traffic areas. Satin or semi-gloss finishes are ideal for kitchens and bathrooms because they’re easy to clean. However, we use matte frequently for its lowsheen look and washable surface, as it provides a clean finish without sacrificing durability."

"For trim and woodwork, our go-to is Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel. Semi-gloss is the standard, but satin works well if you prefer less shine. It brushes and rolls easily, even for DIYers, and cures to a hard, long-lasting finish."

"On exteriors, Emerald Rain Refresh is a strong option. It’s a 100% acrylic latex paint with selfcleaning technology that repels dirt and holds up well in our harsh winters."

Shawn Weyer, Owner, Weyer Companies

Q: What colors are trending in our region?
Q: If someone wants to paint on their own, what advice would you give them?

"Give yourself plenty of space and protect everything before opening a can of paint. Cover floors and furniture, or remove them if possible. Take off switch plates and vent covers. Patch and sand thoroughly. Before painting the whole wall, apply a quick coat over the patched areas to see how they look. Make corrections until they blend in properly. It takes time, but the extra steps are worth it."

"Use quality tools and always test the color/ product on your wall with your actual lighting and furnishings. It’s the painting version of measure twice, cut once."

"We’re seeing a lot of light, neutral tones with earthy undertones. Soft whites and warm mushroom shades. Natural wood elements like white oak are showing up more, often paired with painted millwork. We often work alongside designers to make sure the paint complements the space. Although paint isn’t typically the highlight, it enhances the overall look and feel."

Q: What smart security upgrades give the best peace of mind?

"In our colder climates and flood-prone areas, temperature and flood sensors are essential for preventing costly damage before it starts. Cameras also provide peace of mind by letting you see who is outside your property at any time."

Cameron Fleck, President & CEO, NewVision Security

Q: How do you help clients choose between alarm systems and cameras?

"An alarm system offers the strongest level of protection. If someone breaks in, it sends an alert, triggers a siren to deter the intruder, and prompts immediate action. Cameras, on the other hand, are valuable for recording events but generally only show you what happened after the fact."

Q: What’s most often overlooked in home security?

"The alarm system. Many homeowners believe cameras alone are enough, but an alarm system delivers real-time alerts and active deterrence—something cameras can’t provide on their own."

Q: What’s the most popular type of outdoor lighting you install in the FM area?

"The most popular light we install are well lights. A well light can vary in size. It sits flush with the ground and illuminates upwards. Typically, we use them on trees with a large leaf canopy. They are low profile, produce a tremendous amount of light, and the homeowner can drive the lawnmower over them without worry."

Andy

Baer, Installer, Aura Outdoor Lighting

Q: How do you design lighting to enhance both beauty and security?

"Our designs are tailored to highlight features such as trees, boulders, hardscapes, and pathways, along with the home itself."

"We position our lights strategically to keep the light from entering the home or light catching your attention in an undesirable way. Imagine your home when it is pitch black compared to when the entire yard is lit up. Landscape lighting is a great deterrent for any potential risks, from a security aspect as well as a safety aspect."

Q: What’s the biggest mistake homeowners make when doing outdoor lighting themselves?

"Thinking that they can achieve the same lighting environment as they can get with in-ground line low-voltage lights from a hardware box store, using solar lights they can install themselves."

"Light placement is an important factor, too. Placing them too close together will result in an overwhelming scene, and too far apart will result in patchy dark spots."

Q: What’s the most durable siding option for FargoMoorhead’s weather?

"James Hardie siding is widely considered the most durable choice for the FargoMoorhead area, particularly due to its superior impact resistance and resilience against extreme weather. It consistently delivers a high return on investment, making it a reliable long-term decision for local homeowners. Onyx Exteriors stands out among competitors as one of the few installers in the region offering James Hardie siding."

Raymond

Q: How do you help homeowners choose between materials like vinyl, fiber cement, and engineered wood?

"Onyx Exteriors guides homeowners through a seven-point checklist assessment tailored to each property. This method ensures clients receive a thorough education on material options, considering the specific demands of their home and desired curb appeal. Homeowners learn how each siding material—vinyl, seamless steel, fiber cement, and engineered wood—performs with respect to the local environment and their personal style, enabling confident, informed choices and a clear vision of the finished result."

maintenance mistake people make with their siding?

"The most common—and costly— maintenance mistake is neglecting preventative care. Many homeowners overlook seemingly small siding issues, such as missing pieces or trim, not realizing these can rapidly escalate into major damage, including harm to the home’s interior. Regularly inspecting and addressing minor problems is essential; siding and exterior products serve as your home’s protective barrier, and attentive maintenance helps avoid expensive repairs and preserves your property’s longevity. This is why Onyx Exteriors specializes in maintenance-free exteriors that require little to no upkeep to protect the home."

Q: What stains are hardest to remove?

"Well depends on what you mean by hardest. If we are talking about time and effort, it's stains like slime or gum. Anything that binds to the carpet fibers and hardens around them. They aren't hard in terms of process or probability of success of removal, but more so just time and effort. As for the probability of success, it's repeated oil or grease without consistent treatment, or paint or anything that permanently dyes and discolors the carpet. Bleach stains, for example, are not gonna happen as it completely and permanently dyes the fibers."

Q: How do you handle pet odor or allergy issues by themselves?

Michael Burton, Franchise Owner/ Developer, Oxi Fresh Carpet Cleaning

"Well, it's a pretty extensive process. First thing we do is black light the areas of concern to isolate or understand the scope of the issue. Once we have identified the source, we use what's called a hydrosensor, which we poke into the base of the floor through the carpet. What this does is let us know if the pet stain has penetrated the surface of the carpet and soaked into the pad. If it has soaked into the pad, we soak the area in our proprietary Oxi Fresh Odor Destroyer or Soft Surface Sanitizer, which erodes the chemical compounds of broken down proteins of the pet urine over a few hours, then extract it from the carpet. That's generally the worst case, as extraction methods are generally not great for the care and lifespan of your carpet and the safety of your home due to potential mold and mildew that can accumulate if not done properly. If we use the hydro sensor and the odor is just surface level, we use the same product just much less to not oversaturate the area, and because of that, we do not need to extract, we just let the product do its magic and eliminate the odor. As for allergies, our products and machines are incredible at eliminating allergens and especially pet hair. Every day we go to customers' homes who vacuum daily or weekly, and they are shocked at the amount of pet hair we still pull out of their carpets. sometimes buckets full. It's pretty wild and always fun to show the customers how much was hidden in there."

Q: How often should carpets be professionally cleaned?

"Depends on a few factors like the amount of traffic, consistent maintenance by the customer, and the surroundings. For example, someone who has a dirt driveway should clean it more often than someone with asphalt. But in general, twice a year or at a minimum once a year. We recommend one in mid-spring after the melt of winter and one in mid-fall before winter begins."

Oxi Fresh Carpet Cleaning – Fargo

Oxi Fresh uses a modern, water-efficient method that dries in just about an hour. Their oxygen-powered system breaks down dirt and revitalizes carpets without leaving behind a sticky residue. Esmeray Art

Meet The

MAKER

Local artist Anne Rumohr of Esmeray Art is “art that empowers.” The variety she creates, ranging from macaron earrings to artwork of a llama in cool sunglasses or your new favorite pet portrait, showcases the wide range of whimsical to deep meaning behind it all. Get to know the maker below!

Describe what type of products you make under Esmeray Art. I make original art and jewelry. I specialize in watercolor and digital art.

Tell us how you got started with your businesses. Art has always been a passion of mine. I went to art school at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I studied art history and illustration. Art was always something I knew I’d pursue in some capacity.

My business has had a couple of different names through the years. I used to use my name, Annie Elizabeth Clark Art, Art by Annie, etc., but when it came time to rebrand and get an established LLC, I was going through a divorce and wanted a unique name that would never change. Esmeray means dark moon. The darkness before a new beginning. That’s why you see the dark moon and the lotus flower in my logo. Lotus flowers are known for growing from darkness through the mud. It’s all very meaningful to me.

I love working with people directly, meeting my clients, and getting to know the community. Plus, I’ve always looked for ways to balance my chronic illness and work life, so working from home and for myself has always been the easiest for me. It began as a juggling balance,

but now I can say 15 years later, I am a full-time artist with the best support team!

What are your personal favorite items you've created so far?

My portraits of empowering women are my favorite. I love seeing women light up and feel represented in my artwork. I also absolutely love creating pet portraits.

What was one of your most difficult pieces you've created?

A pet portrait of a family dog. Now I love being able to help capture these sweet souls for people.

What is your most popular item you sell currently?

Many of my art prints. I think, currently, my skull with the flowers or the raven are most popular. I have one print I like to call the holy three. It has books, cats, and plants. It’s very popular!

My jewelry is a popular item as I try to keep it affordable, hypoallergenic, and create quirky items like animals, food, hobbies, and seasonal pieces!

What is something you've enjoyed the most about doing this handcrafted business?

I love the flexibility, the time with my boyfriend and business partner, and the endless ability to be creative.

I love being able to customize everything for people. I can adjust jewelry lengths, all my earrings can be made to clips on, switched to a specific metal, or even plastic hooks, and it’s free of charge. I strive to be as inclusive as possible.

What is the most challenging thing?

Time management and living with chronic health conditions. Just having enough time to do everything I want to do. Be in all the places, take on all the clients. It’s a good problem, but I still need to prioritize myself and my health many days.

Where does your inspo come from for new products you create? Life, other art, music, people and nature.

I try to absorb everything around me and fuel my creativity. I’m very “ooh shiny! I love that!” And get excited, and my phone is filled with pictures, videos, screenshots, and notes of ideas I have. Once in a while, I sit down and organize it all.

We love your food earrings here at Unglued! If you could wear earrings with any type of food on them, which would you choose yourself? I wear so many! The orange slices and blueberries have been my go-to this summer! But I have an obsession with artsy-themed earrings!

What is a word that best describes you? Passionate.

What advice would you give to someone else looking to start a handcrafted/maker business?

Do it! Start small, find your unique thing. Play with everything. Don’t just do what’s popular and trending. Find a way to stand out and be the only one doing something or doing it in a new way. Do not take on more than you can handle financially, physically, or emotionally. Surround yourself with people who support you. Your people will find you, and they will support you. Use social media. Get a website. Make business cards. USE TENT WEIGHTS. Put your fabulous face out there. I can’t wait to see what you do!

What advice would you have given yourself five years ago?

A lot has happened in five years. You’ll never know where you could be five years from now! Be patient and keep going! Rest is not laziness.

Stop watering dead plants (don’t give energy to things that don’t deserve it). One day, you’ll be amazed at how far you’ve come.

Where can people find your work?

A lot has happened in five years. You can find everything online at esmerayart.com. I’ll deliver to Fargo or Grand Forks or ship anytime!

Locally, you can find me at art markets and fairs in the area as well as in Unglued in Fargo and Midtown Market in Grand Forks!

You might find items around shops as I offer wholesale and consignment to stores all over the world!

utumn at the Red River Market is a celebration of locally grown, farmfresh food as the harvest season approaches. My weekly visits on Saturday mornings begin with sourcing vegetables for my favorite fall meals, stews, and chili. But lately, my market tote has been filling with more than produce. Between the stalls of carrots and tomatoes, I’ve been collecting handmade goods. These finds nourish not just the table, but the home.

In curating my home with intentionality, I’ve surrounded myself with pieces that embody connection, craftsmanship, and the beauty of living locally. Instead of buying something anonymous

from a faraway store, I’m meeting the people behind the work, hearing their stories, and bringing home a bit of their passion. Every item holds a memory, whether it’s a quick chat about how to care for a succulent or a longer conversation about the texture of local clay.

Filling your space with objects made by local artists creates a point of connection and puts a face to the person who crafted it. These aren’t just pretty pieces; they’re fragments of our shared culture, crafted with care and intention.

Here are some of my favorite Red River Market makers whose work adds authenticity, character, and joy to the home.

TIMBER TO TABLE

Working with regionally sourced wood, Timber to Table crafts cutting boards, charcuterie boards, and lefse sticks that feel both functional and artful.

Styling tip: Prop a cutting board against your backsplash when not in use.

CURATING WITH RED RIVER MARKET MAKERS

COPPER ROOT NURSERY

Specializing in cacti and succulents, Copper Root Nursery pairs botanical beauty with expert care. Their thoughtfully mixed “gritty” soil and practical guidance ensure each plant has the best chance to thrive. My mood always improves when I bring greenery into my home, especially as we begin to approach colder months.

HILDEBRANT FARM

For three generations, the Hildebrant family has tended a small farm, producing fruits, vegetables, and flowers grown with organic methods. Fresh flowers from their stall add instant charm to a coffee table or entryway.

A home isn’t built in a day; it’s collected over time. Each visit to the Red River Market is a chance to gather not just goods, but stories, friendships, and a deeper sense of belonging. When we buy from local makers, we invest in our neighbors, and when we fill our homes with their creations, we carry a piece of our community with us every day. That is the kind of beauty that lasts.

JENNY SUE CERAMICS

Fargo ceramic artist and teacher Jenny Sue creates pieces that echo her love for North Dakota’s landscape. Her work blends playful curiosity with a timeless sense of place. I value including pieces in my space that remind me of home.

THE PLANT SUPPLY

This local business can also be found outside of the market at Brewhalla. The Plant Supply offers houseplants, hand-poured planters, and plant accessories with a personal touch. Every purchase comes with tailored advice, making plant care as approachable as it is rewarding. One of my favorite products is their fertilization drops, which have helped me keep my pothos plant alive and healthy.

LIVIN’ THE DREAM POTTERY

This Fargo studio turns clay into vibrant, functional pottery adorned with bold colors and pop culture-inspired designs. Recently, the artist Hayden has been experimenting with ceramics that mimic a watercolor effect in earthy tones. His products are microwave and dishwasher-safe, making them great for daily use. A cup of coffee in the morning feels even warmer when it is served in something created locally.

FREE SOUL CANDLE CO.

The couple behind Free Soul Candle Co. handcrafts soy candles decorated with dried florals and crystals. Their cleanburning creations, along with mists, diffusers, and massage candles, bring beauty, scent, and intention into the home. I grew up with wood wicker candles, so the sound and the smell make me feel right at home.
