SOFT GOODBYES & SOUL WORK
This month, we are diving into something completely personal and entirely different for every single person—health! Luckily, there are a ton of fantastic professionals, informative resources, and inclusive spaces in our community to help along that journey. No two bodies are the same, and how you take care of them won't be either. What's important is that you take care of yourself, however it feels the best to you— mind, body, and soul!
It's very important to recognize that every journey is different, and that every journey can (and will) change in time. You know it's my favorite thing to talk about—change— and how it affects us all, but how it's inevitable; and a little (a lot) scary, but we should also embrace it. I'm rambling because I'm trying to avoid writing this next line, but avoiding something never got anyone anywhere, so here we go. This will be my last Editor's Note from Meet Fargo magazine, as my time at Spotlight is coming
to a close. I am fortunate to be staying in the FargoMoorhead community, but no longer will I be a voice behind the stories you read on these pages.
I ended my very first Editor's Note in December of 2021 with this sendoff: "I am very excited to have the opportunity to continue exploring the FM community with the readers..." I can say, now three and a half years later, that I did just that. Not only have I grown professionally and in skill, but I have come to
know my community in an entirely new way. I have met countless new people, visited more new places in town than I even thought existed, got to experience wildly cool and interesting things, and so much more. I can confidently say that I learned something new each and every day that I worked here, whether it was about the cities, a service or activity in town, a fact about a person, or even a soft skill of my own. The network of people that I have gotten to know during my opportunity at

Spotlight—be it coworkers, peers in my industry, or story features I have covered—is something I deeply cherish. I am walking away with more professional experience and confidence than I ever expected to, but more so, I am walking away with close friends, a new understanding of community, a great set of tools and resources to be an active builder and participant of said community, and a newly ignited passion and deeper understanding for storytelling. While this experience coming to an end might be the most bittersweet of my career thus far, I find myself reflecting on my time here with nothing short of pride. I am proud of what my team and I created, I am proud to have represented Spotlight the way I did, and I am proud of myself for sharing
stories untold and giving a megaphone to voices in our community.
Thank you to my team, my collegeues, my peers, and my friends who helped me along the way.
There is so much more to come. Thank you for sharing these pages with me for the last three years; here, now, tomorrow, and forever,
Happy Reading! Geneva Nodland Editor

Evolve Transform at Everest Regenerative Medicine
Non-Invasive Body Contouring for the Modern Client

By Brady Drake
provided by Everest Regenerative Medicine
When it comes to reshaping, refining, and rejuvenating the body, the team at Everest Regenerative Medicine is ahead of the curve.
One of their many options to help you be at your best is Evolve Transform, a cutting-edge, non-invasive body contouring system.
What makes Evolve Transform a game-changer isn’t just the technology itself—it’s how effortlessly it fits into everyday life.
What Is Evolve Transform?
Evolve Transform is a 3060 minute, non-invasive treatment that combines three technologies into one
•Radiofrequency (RF): Targets and tightens the skin.
•Thermal Energy: Gently reduces fat cells using heat.
•Electrical Muscle
Stimulation (EMS): Contracts muscles to tone and strengthen, similar to a TENS unit—but more intense and more
This trio of treatments works simultaneously to tighten skin, minimize stubborn fat, and retrain dormant muscles.

“It's like a workout your body doesn't know it needed" Beachy said. "Some clients have lost the ability to feel that deep core or glute engagement. This wakes those muscles up.”
This allows clients to often experience a surprising reconnection to parts of their body they’d unknowingly neglected.
“I remember one client stating it helped tighten those muscles. And when she went back to exercising, she finally knew what she was supposed to be feeling,” Beachy said.
Summer is Coming!
The treatment is ideal for those approaching summer with a goal—not necessarily to lose weight, but to feel more confident in their skin.
Photo
Evolve Transform shines when used by:
•Those near their ideal body weight looking for fine-tuning.
•Postpartum clients wanting to address loosened skin or separated muscles.
•Weight loss patients with mild to moderate skin laxity.
•Anyone dealing with age-related changes in skin tone and elasticity.
“It’s great for getting ready for summer,” Provider Crystal Amundson said. “Everyone has that little line on their stomach that rolls over when you’re fluctuating five pounds up or down—you can really notice a difference in skin tightening.”
Evolve serves those in-between stages.
“Sometimes people are dieting and exercising, or even trying GLP-1's, but they're not quite to their goal yet. They don't need high-definition Lipo, but do need something more,” Beachy said. "That's where Evolve can step in."
By offering a spectrum of options at Everest Regenerative Medicine, clients can escalate or de-escalate treatments based on their results, readiness, or comfort level, without ever feeling stuck.
Key Treatment Areas
Evolve Transform’s flexible paddle system means it can target nearly any trouble spot. The most popular areas include:
•Stomach: For tightening and toning abs.

•Underside of the arms: To combat skin sagging.
•Banana roll and thighs: For smoothing cellulite and shaping the lower body.
The system is entirely hands-free. Patients can relax, scroll, work, or even nap during the session. There’s no pain, no downtime—and no disruption to daily life.
Treatment Schedule and Maintenance
Everest recommends eight weekly sessions for best results. After the initial series, maintenance is simple: just once a month. “You don't stop going to the gym, once you reach your goal,“ Beachy said. “This is the same. Maintenance helps preserve those results.”
Pairing and Enhancing Other Treatments
Another benefit? Evolve Transform integrates seamlessly into broader regenerative and aesthetic treatment plans:
•Paired with Morpheus8: A skin-focused treatment that complements Evolve’s body-sculpting effects.
•During GLP-1 journeys: Helps manage skin tightening while weight comes off.
•After microneedling or fun sculpting: Continues the momentum of transformation.
•Before more invasive procedures: For clients testing the waters before committing to surgical options.
“It really enhances other treatments,” Amundson said. “You can use it
during or after them, and it always moves you further along in your journey.”
The technology has been in use for over five years, and it’s backed by research and real-world use. When Everest evaluated different devices, Evolve stood out for its safety features, ease of use, and versatility.
Book Your Transformation at Everest Regenerative Medicine
Whether you’re preparing for summer, recovering from a lifestyle change, or simply seeking a boost in confidence, Evolve Transform at Everest Regenerative Medicine offers a modern, science-backed approach to reshaping your body—with zero downtime and visible results.

Wimmer’s Diamonds

Spring Cleaning, But Make It Sparkle
As the snow melts and the flowers bloom, spring brings the perfect opportunity to refresh not just your home, but your jewelry box, too. From well-loved rings that need a little TLC to heirloom pieces ready for a refresh, Wimmer’s Diamonds offers expert services to clean, repair, restyle, and even transform your old gold into something new and meaningful.
“Part of being a full-service jeweler is making sure we take care of our clients and their jewelry needs,” Wimmer's Owner Aaron Wimmer said. “Jewelry often holds deep sentimental value. Our goal is to help every piece shine again.”

Jewelry Care
Cleaning & Inspection—Always Complimentary
Whether your pieces came from Wimmer’s or not, you can bring them in for a free professional inspection and cleaning— no appointment necessary.
Here’s how it works Stop in anytime and let the team examine your jewelry for loose stones, worn prongs, or hidden damage.
Jewelry is cleaned on-site—often while you wait or after a short errand run.
Wimmer’s uses commercial-grade tools and solutions for a deeper clean than most at-home kits.
• Use store-approved cleaners.
• Remove pieces when gardening, cleaning, or working out.
• Pearls should go on last and come off first.
• Keep jewelry out of direct sunlight and away from heat or chemicals.
Jewelry Repair
Every piece gets an expert eye before repairs begin. Wimmer’s offers in-house service by three experienced goldsmiths, meaning your jewelry never leaves the store.
Common repairs:
• Ring sizing
• Prong rebuilding or replacement
• Loose diamonds or gemstones
• Broken chains or clasps

Though rush options are available, most repairs take about one to one and a half weeks. After an inspection, a quote is provided on the spot.
“Preventative care saves heartbreak,” Store Manager Wendy Thymian said. “We often catch damage before a stone is lost. It’s about peace of mind.”
Jewelry Restyling
Sometimes you inherit a piece that doesn’t match your style—or maybe your personal look has simply evolved. Wimmer’s can help transform those meaningful items into designs you’ll wear again with pride.
How it works
• Bring in your stones or pieces (even if you’re unsure what you want).
• Consult with an onsite Wimmer's designer—bring inspo pics if you have them.
• Wimmer’s will help design something brand-new using your materials (and sometimes theirs, if needed).
Testimonial
"I'm so happy with my restyled pearl necklace. Aaron and the Wimmer's staff were thoughtful and very helpful, turning my mom's pearl brooches into a lovely necklace that fits my life. As my sister said, 'It's like getting a hug from Mom every time I wear it.' Many thanks, Wimmer's!"
-Karen H.

Gold Buying
If you’ve got outdated, broken, or outlived gold jewelry sitting in a drawer, Wimmer’s can help you turn it into cash—or better yet, store credit with a 20% bonus.
How it works
• Walk-in, no appointment needed.
• Your pieces are sorted, tested, and weighed.
• You'll receive a quote for cash or 20% more in store credit.
• Use your credit toward a new piece, repairs, or a restyling project!
Don’t Miss this Extra Sparkle
Stay tuned for Wimmer’s Christmas in July event—an annual favorite happening mid-month with up to 50% off storewide on selected items. It’s the perfect time to shop (or splurge with that gold credit). Follow Wimmer's online for updates!

Why Wimmer’s?
With decades of experience and a reputation for treating every customer like family, Wimmer’s Diamonds is the FM community’s trusted destination for jewelry care, repair, and reinvention.
“We’re here to help your jewelry tell the story you want it to tell—whether that’s polishing a ring for spring, or completely rewriting its next chapter,” Aaron said.

Transform Your Health Naturally with a Personalized Wellness Program
Photos by Geneva Nodland
With over 36 years of hands-on experience, Dr. Mike Jorgensen brings a deep-rooted passion for Chiropractic care and holistic health to his practice. As a second generation Chiropractor, Dr. Jorgensen contiues the legacy—by offering an innovative, functional wellness model that helps clients restore balance, vitality, and long-term health. At Red River Chiropractic & Wellness, his approach blends tradition with forward-thinking care, making him a trusted guide for those seeking more than just symptom relief.
WDr. Mike and his team are combatting the alarming rise of chronic health conditions—obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, digestive disorders and fatigue—that currently affect millions of Americans. They provide personalized, natural alternatives to traditional pharmaceutical interventions by addressing root causes.
Their model rests on five critical pillars: Detoxification, Nutrition, Hormonal Balance, Fitness, and Mentorship—with Education seamlessly woven into each step.

2. 1. Detoxification
Mentorship & Education
Understanding your body and health is the first step toward lasting results. At Red River Chiropractic & Wellness, they provide systemized education and personalized mentoring to help you take control of your health and create a foundation for a future life of vitality.

Mentorship and education form the backbone of Red River Chiropractic & Wellness's supportive community. Clients receive regular personalized coaching, progress reports, the advanced InBody system, and continuous support to overcome challenges. Regular consultations, check-ins, phone/ text access allow clients to remain engaged, informed, and supported throughout their wellness journey.
Advice From Red River Chiropractic & Wellness:
• Be a student of your own health—always seek to learn more about your body, stress management, and holistic wellness.
• Find a mentor to guide you through lifestyle changes and hold you accountable.
The journey to renewed health often begins with detoxification—a systematic reset designed to eliminate toxins and restore gut health. The gut is the foundation of overall health and Red River Chiropractic & Wellness employs a structured protocol involving supplements, nutritional support, and strategic food elimination where clients gradually remove specific foods from their diet to identify sensitivities, then reintroduce them to better understand their body's responses.

"When we eliminate inflammatory foods, we allow our bodies to heal and function at their best," Dr. Michael Jorgensen said.
According to Red River Chiropractic & Wellness, the results can be as powerful as improved liver, kidney, and gut function, reduced inflammation, better digestion, and often significant alleviation of chronic symptoms like acid reflux, fatigue, anxiety, joint pain, and even high blood pressure.

Foods to Eliminate for Gut Health:
Processed Sugars & Artificial Sweeteners – Cause inflammation and disrupt gut bacteria.

Gluten & Dairy – Common irritants that can trigger bloating, fatigue, and brain fog.
Industrial Seed Oils (Canola, Soy, Corn Oil) – Linked to inflammation and hormone imbalances.
Advice From Red River Chiropractic & Wellness:
• Replace processed foods with whole, nutrient-dense options.
• Drink plenty of water with lemon to support liver detoxification.

3.Nutrition
Nutrition education is foundational to the Red River Chiropractic & Wellness approach, which aims to equip clients with knowledge about beneficial dietary choices. The Red River Chiropractic & Wellness team recommends consuming whole, unprocessed foods and understanding nutritional deficiencies. The goal isn't temporary relief but sustainable lifestyle changes that enable clients to maintain long-term health.
Eating a nutrient-dense diet supports energy, digestion, and long-term health. Prioritizing whole foods helps nourish the body while reducing inflammation and promoting overall well-being.

Advice From Red River Chiropractic & Wellness:
Prioritize Whole Foods - Focus on fresh vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, healthy fats and, carbs. Minimize processed foods, sugar, and artificial additives.

Proper hydration is key for digestion, metabolism, and overall body function. Aim for at least half your body weight in ounces of

Addressing hormonal imbalances is another critical aspect of Red River Chiropractic & Wellness's programs. Through the detoxification process and targeted lifestyle adjustments, clients often experience natural hormonal realignment, which reduces stress and inflammation.
Hormones regulate metabolism, energy, and mood. Stress, poor diet, and environmental toxins can throw them off balance. However, supplementation can help restore equilibrium.
Recommended Supplements for Hormonal Balance:
Supports stress reduction and sleep quality. Reduces inflammation and supports hormone production. Essential for energy production and detox pathways.
Advice From Red River Chiropractic & Wellness:
• Get quality sleep—aim for 7-9 hours per night.

• Reduce stress through mindfulness and relaxation techniques.
• Work with a wellness professional to determine the right supplement
5. Fitness
Fitness integrates seamlessly into the wellness protocols. Red River Chiropractic & Wellness promotes personalized movement and exercise routines aimed at complementing dietary and detoxification efforts, contributing significantly to overall health and vitality.
Exercise isn’t just about looking good—it’s about feeling strong, improving longevity, and reducing stress. A well-rounded fitness plan includes strength training, mobility work, and cardiovascular activity.
Functional Strength Circuit (great for metabolism & core stability)
• Goblet Squats – 3 sets of 12 reps
• Push-Ups – 3 sets of 10 reps
• Plank with Shoulder Taps – 3 sets of 30 seconds
• Walking Lunges – 3 sets of 10 reps per leg
Advice From Red River Chiropractic & Wellness:
• Prioritize consistency over intensity—move daily.
• Strength training supports metabolism and hormone balance.
• Mix in flexibility training (yoga, mobility drills) to prevent injuries.

MEET THE PROVIDERS AT
NuVation Health Services
ABOUT NUVATION HEALTH SERVICES
NuVation Health Services began in Bismarck, ND in 2007. From the beginning, the clinic’s providers have worked with children, adolescents, and adults to address behavioral and mental health struggles. Through the clinic, individuals and couples have found help to improve their relationships and make healthy changes in their lives.
In 2024, when one of their excellent providers was looking to relocate to the Fargo area, the decision was made to add a clinic location to Fargo and become a part of

MEET THE COUNSELORS
Jen Morgan’s path to counseling wasn’t linear—but it was deeply personal. With an undergraduate degree in music education and early career experience in government work, Jen’s initial professional direction seemed far removed from the therapy room. However, at the recommendation of her father, she reshaped her life. While undergoing treatment, he told her, “I think you missed your calling.” Those words stayed with her, even after his passing in 2010.
“He didn’t make me promise anything,” Jen said, “but he said it—and I thought, okay, I’m going to take the bull by the horns.” That moment, combined with her own transformative experience working with a therapist, set Jen on a new course.
Now a counselor at Nuvation Health Services, Jen says the decision to pursue this path was “100%” the right one. “At age 45, I figured—if I’m going to work for 20 more years of my life, I need to do something that truly matters.”
AREAS OF SPECIALTY
Jen has developed a strong specialty in working with individuals who have borderline personality disorder, utilizing dialectical behavior therapy. She also works with children who’ve experienced trauma, as well as those navigating anxiety, OCD, and difficult life transitions.
Another treatment area she is passionate about is adults facing pivotal moments— grief, separation, infidelity, and the emotional upheaval that can accompany an empty nest.
“When someone comes in and they’re struggling, something’s broken or not working in their lives… and then they learn new skills, new tools, new ways of communicating—and their life changes. That’s what I love most,” Jen said.

Some careers are chosen; others seem to choose you.
For Molly Hauser, becoming a therapist didn’t begin with a clear intention—it began with curiosity. Initially pursuing a completely different path, she found herself enrolled in an abnormal psychology class that would alter her trajectory.
“I just knew there was more I didn’t understand,” she said. “And I wanted to.”
That spark of curiosity quickly became a passion that led her into the world of mental health. “Honestly, the second I made the decision, I never looked back,” Mollie said. “It’s this gut feeling, like you know you’re doing the right thing every day. I just know I’m exactly where I should be.”
AREAS OF SPECIALTY
Now working with individuals ages 18 and up, her focus areas include trauma—in which she is a licensed trauma professional—as well as pregnancy and loss.
“I love when people reach a point where they’re empowered enough to make a change,” Mollie said. “You can always kind of see it in them—when they’re finally there. Getting to witness that strength, the strength they already have—that’s amazing.”
To achieve outcomes, Mollie utilizes somatic therapy, a practice that focuses on the mind-body connection.
“Sometimes that means we’re up and moving in the room,” she said. “Have you ever smelled something and couldn’t quite place it, but you knew it from somewhere? That’s because your mind might not remember—but your body does. The body holds experiences like this. Our bodies remember and react, even when we don’t understand why. We can try to address the mental side of things, but if we don’t also address the body, we’re only going halfway.”

MOLLIE'S RECOMMENDATIONS

CARD DECKS
"This app from the Gottman Institute helps couples reconnect. We often forget we need to keep pursuing our partner after getting together. It offers categories to enhance intimacy and communication, including a section for growing families. I recommend it for those struggling with connection."

THE TAPPING SOLUTION
"For people who want to get into more bodybased work, I recommend The Tapping Solution. Tapping works with your acupuncture points and helps reset the body. That app guides you through the process."
ANY BREATHING OR MEDITATION APP
"There are so many out there. They all have different strengths and weaknesses, and really, it comes down to what works for you. So sometimes I’ll just say: try them out. There’s nothing wrong with doing a trial—and if it doesn’t work for you, let it go.”
Most downloaded in the app store are:

ASK YOURSELF, 'HOW DID THAT SERVE YOU?'
"We go through life and have all these situations and experiences, but how we respond to them is really the big thing. So if there’s anything weighing on you, I always come back to that question: How did that serve you—in that moment, or today? Because maybe it didn’t. And it’s in recognizing when something isn’t actually helpful for us that we can start to make a change.”

Born in Detroit Lakes and raised in Fargo, Jon graduated from North High and earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from UND. He practiced hand surgery in Fargo for nearly 20 years, including time at Sanford Orthopedics, and now continues his surgical career at Allina Health in the Minneapolis metro. Jon has also owned several businesses, including Nothing Bundt Cakes in West Fargo and Maple Grove. Now living in Maple Grove, he’s an avid pickleball player, husband to Rinda, and proud father of three grown children.

Originally from Fargo, Frank graduated from Shanley High School and went on to complete both his undergraduate and medical degrees at UND. He now practices orthopedic surgery in Minneapolis. A longtime fan of sports and the outdoors, Frank was drawn to pickleball for its social nature and family-friendly vibe. He regularly plays with his children and their partners. Frank lives in the Twin Cities with his wife, Cinda, and they have three grown children.

Moving to Fargo from Florida when he was in third grade, Kelly graduated from Fargo Shanley before heading to NDSU, where he played collegiate baseball. After graduating from NDSU, his professional career spanned insurance marketing, bar management, radio advertising, and over 17 years in medical device sales. Kelly and his wife, Kathy, live in Fargo and have two sons, a daughter, and one grandson. His local roots and love of sports made him the perfect fit to help launch Courts & Pints!

A CLEAR VISION FROM THE START
For Dr. Melissa McCulley, caring for others is part of her DNA. Raised in Fargo by an orthodontist father, she was no stranger to health professions, but two childhood accidents that knocked out her front teeth were enough to steer her in a different direction.
Rather than following her father's path in orthodontics, “I like to say that ‘I moved up 3 inches’ to the eyes,” she said with a laugh.
After earning her undergraduate degree in Spanish and pre-optometry at Boston College, Dr. McCulley continued her education at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN.
“One memorable experience I had was helping a patient
select glasses—her insurance only covered a limited supply of low-end frames, but after a quick view and dislike for all of those options, she immediately said, ‘Show me the Tommy!’ (as in Tommy Hilfiger—this was the late 1990s). It always reminds me to never judge someone's preferences or pocketbook. And that fashion and wearing beautiful eyewear is something we all want to enjoy," Dr. McCulley said.
She spent the early years of her career in Minneapolis fitting complex contact lenses and working in stylish opticals.
“When someone says, ‘I've never seen this well out of a pair of glasses in my life,’ it gives me chills, like I've made a slam dunk.”
It was this reaction—and her desire to create a better care environment—that brought her back to Fargo.
PHOTOS BY OVERFLOW CREATIVE
“I was enjoying my experiences and jobs in Minneapolis, but my work never felt like a home to me there. I wanted to work in a space that was well designed to make a great experience for both the patient and the staff.”
Dr. McCulley opened her own practice in 2006, fulfilling her vision of combining clinical expertise with a welcoming, design-forward environment. What began as Fargo’s first boutique optical quickly grew into a go-to destination for stylish frames and personalized care.
In time, the business evolved alongside her, and after years in their original location, McCulley Optix Gallery moved just down the road to a new, state-of-the-art space in West Fargo. The expansion allowed Dr. McCulley to reimagine the patient experience from the ground up.

I never want to see my patients just once a year. I love when they stop in to get their glasses adjusted and tell me their daughter is getting married. I love when they stop in for a gift for a friend and tell us they get so many compliments on their frames. I love that we are their first call when their eyes aren't comfortable or they notice a vision change. This office is an extension of my home in so many ways, and my goal is for patients to feel like they are at home here too."
- Dr. Melissa McCulley, McCulley Optix Gallery

DESIGNED FOR EXPERIENCE

The newly opened McCulley Optix Gallery location on 32nd Ave in West Fargo is not just about eye care—it’s about creating an environment that feels calm, warm, and welcoming from the moment you walk in.
“Our previous optical was only 900 square feet, and everyone could hear every conversation that was happening. Now, thanks to a customized sound system and white noise control, conversations flow easily without the worry of anyone nearby listening," she said.
“I designed the space with large, north-facing windows so shades and curtains weren’t necessary… We installed an in-floor heating system that
radiates gentle warmth without drying out our space with hot air blowing constantly. Four electric fireplaces also bring the warmth. The flames are on all year long, but the heat doesn’t need to be.”
The layout of McCulley Optix Gallery was thoughtfully designed with “one-way streets” to guide patients smoothly from pre-testing to exams and into the optical area. By eliminating crosstraffic, the space has a calm, personalized atmosphere where each client feels like the center of attention. Every detail—from the patient flow to the finishes—was intentionally planned, beginning with sketches drawn at Dr. McCulley’s own dining room table!
TECH-FORWARD EYECARE
McCulley Optix Gallery leads the local field with innovative treatments and eyewear solutions for both eye health and lifestyle comfort. Check out some of their standout services!
NEUROLENS
Glasses lenses that go beyond vision correction, Neurolens addresses eye misalignment to reduce headaches, neck pain, motion sickness, and eye strain.
Most people don’t realize they have a minor eye misalignment—yet it can cause symptoms like headaches, neck pain, motion sickness, and even light sensitivity. With screen time now averaging 13-plus hours a day, these symptoms are more common than ever.
Neurolens is a cutting-edge lens technology that gently corrects this misalignment, helping you feel more comfortable and focused. In fact, studies show it can boost reading speed by over 60% in just over a month. You don’t need a glasses prescription to benefit—Neurolens is available even if you’ve never worn glasses before.
McCulley Optix Gallery is one of the few clinics in the region offering this technology!

NUANCE
Dr. McCulley’s Quick Tips for Eye Health
• Kids need eye exams! First one before age 6, and returning every year or two—even if vision seems fine.
• Wear sunglasses outside, always! Your eyes need protection just like your skin.
• And don’t wait—adults need a baseline eye exam before age 40.

AUDIO
This revolutionary frame design doubles as a hearing aid, providing sleek, integrated support for those with mild to moderate hearing loss.
Imagine glasses that not only help you see, but also help you hear. Nuance Audio is a sleek, open-ear hearing solution built right into stylish frames. Designed for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss, these glasses improve speech clarity in noisy environments using advanced directional microphones.

They’re available with or without prescription lenses, fit almost any face shape, and come in square or round frame options in black or burgundy. Plus, with real-time audio and a custom-tuning app, you can personalize your listening experience instantly.
Stop by McCulley Optix Gallery to try them for yourself!

McCulley Optix Gallery’s reputation isn’t just built on innovation—it’s built on trust. In a letter of support for the Chamber Choice Small Business of the Year award, longtime patient Sher Thomsen echoed that.
“Our entire family has been cared for by the team at McCulley Optix for several years and they have always

provided exceptional customer service... Dr. McCulley and her team have always been responsive to our family's needs, but this was never more apparent than when our oldest son got a metal shaving in his eye. We called, and he was being seen by Dr. McCulley within minutes. Their care is truly second to none!”

MYOPIA MANAGEMENT WITH MISIGHT
Designed for children, these specialized contact lenses slow the progression of nearsightedness, a growing concern with increasing screen use and indoor time.
Nearsightedness, or myopia, often starts in childhood and progresses into the teen years. It’s more than just blurry vision in the distance—it can increase the risk of serious eye health issues later in life.
MiSight 1-day contact lenses are specifically
designed to slow that progression while giving kids better-than-20/20 vision during treatment. By managing myopia early, children can reduce their risk of future complications like glaucoma or retinal damage—and even improve their candidacy for procedures like LASIK.
Parents often recognize the story: a child needs stronger glasses every year. MiSight helps change that path for good‚ and McCulley Optix Gallery is here to guide you!
LEADING BY EXAMPLE
In a field traditionally dominated by male providers, Dr. Melissa McCulley is a respected and visible leader in both clinical care and business ownership. Her impact goes far beyond the walls of McCulley Optix Gallery—she is a trailblazer in the region’s optometry community, modeling what it means to deliver excellent care, foster innovation, and lead with purpose.
As one of the few female optometrists in the area to own and operate a fullscale private practice, Dr. McCulley brings expertise as well as a strong voice for representation in healthcare leadership. Her practice is a reflection of her
values: forward-thinking, inclusive, patient-centered, and driven by continual improvement.
Through mentorship, collaboration with local student interns, and engagement in womenled professional groups, she’s become a mentor and motivator for the next generation of optometrists and small business owners. Her presence and example reinforce the importance of women in leadership roles— especially in specialized healthcare—and spotlight how much local influence one dedicated provider can have when she leads with both skill and heart.
“I’VE NEVER SEEN THIS WELL!”
For Dr. McCulley, that’s the magic phrase.
That’s no accident. With a team of passionate staff members (shoutout to her Office Manager Jenna Gilbertson, a 14-year veteran), Dr. McCulley cultivates a culture of learning, laughter, and dedication. From trunk shows and Fargo Fashion Week events to national conferences, the McCulley Optix crew is always leveling up—and having fun doing it.
“My goal with being an optometrist and owning my own practice is to elevate the lives of both my patients and my team,” she said.
Even the eyewear selection process is personalized.
The McCulley team takes the guesswork out of choosing eyewear by preselecting frames that suit each patient’s face shape, style, and coloring. Rather than wandering the optical
searching for the right fit, clients are shown curated options that often leave them torn between favorites rather than finding one they like. It’s not uncommon for someone who struggles to find a single pair they like elsewhere to suddenly love several!
“I feel that both healthcare and retail shopping these days are about quantity and simply a ‘get them in/get them out’ mentality. I designed my optometry practice for the experience," she said.
Whether it’s a first-time visitor or a longtime client popping in to say hello or show off their new grandbaby photos, McCulley Optix Gallery is more than a clinic, exactly how Dr. McCulley wants it!
From the moment you walk through the doors, you’ll find a custom, tech-forward vision experience delivered with the kind of welcoming service that keeps patients coming back!

Sometimes, we get too into the rhythm of everyday life—and, while at times, that rhythm can bring comfort, other times it feels suffocating. Finding a sanctuary that offers both a mental escape and a physical retreat is a rare gem yet an absolute necessity in life. Fair Hills Resort is that rare find.
Fair Hills Resort, known for its picturesque landscapes on Pelican Lake and family-friendly environment, provides the perfect backdrop for a mental unwind. Away from the constant pings of push notifications and the glow of screens, families and individuals find themselves disconnected from the outside world and more like they've entered a new one all together. At the heart of Fair Hills is an understanding of how precious and fundamental quality time is. Emily Meyers, part of the fifth generation running the resort, understands this and works to maintain that as the resort’s commitment.
Maybe it's the quiet that comes with the valley-like area the resort is in, surrounded by trees and big open sky along the lakeshore; or maybe it's the fact that the Fair Hills schedule is designed to keep you engaged during your stay, including hands-on activities led by a passionate crew—the staff hear the same sentiment day after day, that visitors feel like they are transported into another time.
Fair Hills Resort is an avenue of nostalgia. It’s a return to the summers we all remember—with sunshine, outside activities, and time spent with the people who matter most. Parents say to the staff that the best part of their vacation is watching their children put down their screens and embrace the freedom of a summer spent outdoors.
While the mind finds a slowness that's rare in this day, the body finds plenty of movement at Fair Hills Resort. With a host of activities tailored for all ages and fitness levels, every guest can find a way to engage physically in a manner that suits them!
Tucked in the hills around Fair Hills Resort, Wildflower Golf Course has top-notch greens for golfers of all levels!
Under the umbrella of Fair Hills Resort family, located between Fergus and Frazee, MN, The Barn at Five Lakes Resort has reopened its doors after a few years' break, inviting guests to experience the charm of this unique venue. The Barn offers a blend of rustic looks with modern amenities, making it a perfect setting for a variety of events.
Whether you're planning a dream wedding, a family reunion, or a corporate retreat, The Barn’s expansive interior and flexible setup allow for an event tailored to your specifications. With the entire Fair Hills Resort’s array of activities available, guests can enjoy everything from boating to hiking, so rest assured—there's never a dull moment!

It’s a lively event where families gather to watch a mix of singing, comedy sketches, and group performances that often include audience participation. This is designed to get everyone laughing and tapping their feet, making it a favorite for the whole family. Songs range from classic campfire tunes to modern hits, and showcase the close-knit, familyfriendly vibe of Fair Hills, where even the staff are part of the entertainment!

Fair Hills Resort is home to many things, but what might be most prevalent to a visitor is its century of memories that can be felt to this day.
As Fair Hills Resort prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary of ownership in 2026, the legacy of the Kaldahl Schupp family is it's identity. Since 1926, when the family first took the reins, each generation has led the resort with love and dedication, both preserving and enhancing the guest experience while not losing the charm and traditions that make Fair Hills unique.
Beth Kaldahl Schupp is the current resort owner and operator. It is still a family affair with her husband, Dan, and sister, Lisa, all working together to run the businesses.

In 1926, hailing from Glenwood, MN, Beth’s great-grandfather and grandfather bought the resort. Years later, in 1974, Beth’s father took it over. Before the torch was passed down yet again, Beth, her husband, Dave Kaldahl, and their family moved away before returning to the shores of Pelican Lake.
Even though the family had spent years there and knew the resort well, when Beth took over in 2006, this adventure would be a new one for the family.
Beth’s daughter, Emily, grew up spending summers at Fair Hills and now serves as the resort’s creative director, is the director of operations at Wildflower Golf Course, and wears just about any other hat the resort needs her to on a day-to-day basis.
The ties between Fair Hills Resort and this family run deep, weaving through generations of stories of summer romances that turned into lifelong connections. The resort has long been a backdrop to the family's history, where Emily's parents first crossed paths during annual family vacations. Similarly, Emily met her husband here, a stone's throw from the resort, as their families were long-time visitors. This tradition of finding love continued with another of Beth's daughters, who met her would be spouse all the way back at the age of six or seven, thanks to their family's regular trips from Iowa.

What began as a few cabins scattered on the land is now over 100 different cabins for families to enjoy while staying at the resort. As the resort saw new spaces being built and even the installation of wifi, the feeling that was first created by its guests and families over 100 years ago has stayed the same.

Fair Hills is proud to have been recognized by Forbes, Travel + Leisure, and National Geographic Traveler as one of America’s Best All-Inclusive Resorts. The Kaldahl Schupp family, who have owned and operated the resort since 1926, is excited to celebrate the resort’s 100th anniversary of their family's ownership next year and invite you to come experience the hospitality first hand!

Jacuzzi Hot Tubs and Ulrich Pool Company Jacuzzi Hot Tubs and Ulrich Pool Company
CAN HELP YOU ACHIEVE EVERYDAY WELLNESS

BY BRADY DRAKE
On the surface, Jacuzzi Hot Tubs of Fargo might look like a national company. But they're not. They're a local family business that wants to help you achieve complete wellness.
For Kristi Ulrich, who owns the company alongside her husband Chuck and their son Wyatt, wellness isn’t a trend. It’s a personal necessity, a family tradition, and a mission worth pursuing every day—one backyard at a time.
“I just turned 62,” she said, “and I ask myself— how do I stay active? How will I stay connected with my future grandkids? How do I live well, right now? The products we have at our showroom have been amazing in helping me.”
PHOTO OF CHUCK, WYATT AND KRISTI ULRICH

The Jacuzzi Legacy
“Have you heard the Jacuzzi story?” Kristi said. “One of the original Jacuzzi brothers had a son with rheumatoid arthritis at age two. His mother said, ‘Can you invent something so I don’t have to keep bringing him to the doctor for hydrotherapy?’ And they did.”
That invention—the original J-300 pump, placed in bathwater—was the start of the modern hot tub. And today, that same spirit of innovation powers everything Ulrich and her team bring to Fargo.
Jacuzzi remains a global pioneer in hydrotherapy and Jacuzzi Hot Tubs of Fargo has all of the latest options for you to choose from.
True Water, Red Light Therapy and a True Massage
Introduced in January, Jacuzzi’s True Water™ system uses patented NanoBubble™ technology to deliver what was once unthinkable: hot tub water that’s 99.9% chlorine-free and 100% salt free.
“People always say, ‘I don’t want a hot tub—it’s too much maintenance.’ Not anymore,” Ulrich said. “True Water™ changes everything.”
True Water™ creates oxygen-filled nanobubbles
5,000 times smaller than a grain of sand. Trillions of the bubbles float invisibly through the water. They surround, naturally scrub, and remove microscopic contaminants they encounter throughout the entire hot tub.
“It’s included on our newest models,” she said. “And when people see how clear the water is without chlorine —they’re amazed.”

Jacuzzi’s 300 and 400 Series have patented technology that blends air and water before it ever hits your body. The result is two different types of soothing massages.
“Jacuzzi refers to it as ‘the power to be gentle,’” Kristi explained. “At first, my husband, Chuck, was unsure— he thought he’d miss the stronger, more forceful jets we were used to. But after trying Jacuzzi jets, he quickly changed his mind. The experience is soothing but still effective. Once you feel it, you understand the difference.”

Jacuzzi also offers patented Infrared and Red Light therapy in the lumbar region of the low back in their hot tubs. The therapeutic benefits of hydrotherapy, the rejuvenating power of infrared, the regenerative qualities of Red Light. All working deep beneath the skin's surface.

Cold Plunge Meets Infrared Sauna
The Ulrichs don't stop at hot tubs and pools. Inside their showroom, you’ll find full-spectrum saunas, zerogravity massage chairs, and now—cold plunges.
One of her employees, Dave, recently tried their 42-degree plunge for the first time. The results were immediate.
“He called it ‘the eighth wonder of the world,’” Ulrich said. “He was experiencing back pain and after his first plunge, he stated he felt immediate relief.”
Kristi says the real benefit lies in the contrast between temperatures. Alternating a cold plunge with the heat of a sauna or hot tub helps the body find balance and promotes overall wellness. As an added bonus, it often leads to deeper, more restful sleep.

Ulrich Pool Company
Not every family has the time, desire, or open schedule to spend their weekends at a lake. Ulrich Pool Company, sister company to Jacuzzi Hot Tubs of Fargo, has the perfect solution. They install top of the line in ground fiberglass pools right in your backyard. They have a wide variety of inground pools to fit the needs and wants of your family.
Led by Wyatt, the Ulrich team is guided by a strong sense of purpose and a dedication to excellence. As a family-owned business, they prioritize respect, personalized service, and attention to detail in every project. Their commitment to continuous learning ensures they remain at the forefront of pool design and installation.
At the heart of their mission is a desire to foster meaningful connections. Ulrich Pool Company helps families and friends relax, recharge, and create lasting memories together.
Let them help you bring the fun and relaxation home. Reach out to Ulrich Pool Company and discover how easy it is to transform your backyard into the place to be.

Jacuzzi Hot Tubs of Fargo and Ulrich Pool Company are your local sources for hot tubs, pools, saunas, cold plunges, and home wellness. Visit the showroom. Feel the jets. Meet the team. And reimagine what your backyard can be!

GARAGE DREAMS TO A 21-YEAR LEGACY
Audio Garage — where passion meets precision in vehicle restyling!

WWhat started as a teenage hobby in a small garage has grown into one of the region’s most respected automotive restyling shops. Audio Garage, operating out of its current south Fargo location since 2014, was built on the passion of Founder Nick Paulson—who, alongside his tech-savvy brother, Zac, began by building custom fiberglass enclosures and stereos for coworkers at Case New Holland.
Within six months of graduating high school, Nick launched his first iteration of the business: The Glass Garage.
"We started in my brother's garage, which was so small that when we'd work on the driver's side, we’d have to pull it all the way to the passenger side so we could open up the driver's door," Nick said.
As demand exploded through word-of-mouth and quality workmanship, the business rebranded to Audio Garage —a name more fitting for their growing reputation in car audio and customization. Though Zac stepped away in 2008, his early influence and support were crucial. Today, Nick continues to lead the charge, still personally performing services like paint protection, which has become his “art form.”

The Powerhouse Team Did You Know They
Despite its small size, the Audio Garage team is packed with talent that rivals national shops.
Tim , the shop’s manager, keeps daily operations running smoothly and ensures projects stay on track from start to finish. With a sharp eye for organization and a customer-first mindset, he bridges the gap between front-of-house consultations and back-ofshop execution.
Caleb , the younger brother of Nick, serves as the frontend product specialist. He provides detailed client consultations for audio systems tailored to individual listening preferences, not just price points.
Dylan brings nearly 11 years of experience and is one of about 200 Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) Certified Expert Technicians nationwide—a certification that validates elite-level mobile electronics expertise.
Kyle , the lead window tinting specialist and shop foreman, has been with the team for 15 years. He’s known for his artistry in wiring and installations, with a deep (and evolving) understanding of modern vehicle systems.
Jeff , the newest technician, comes with 20 years of audio experience, adding another layer of veteran expertise.
The team’s strength is in technical ability and an obsession with customer service and follow-through.
“We’re not just trying to service the issue—we want to service the client’s needs... That’s what sets us apart from anything you’re just going to purchase online... You have to have that person behind the product to be able to service it and take care of it," Nick said.
This client-first approach is baked into every consultation, where technicians ask detailed questions to understand what the customer wants AND why they want it—whether it's a smoother audio experience, better safety, or a complete style overhaul. The goal is a perfect fit, every time.

Blueprint Personal Training Gets Results!

About Blueprint Personal Training
Blueprint Personal Training does things differently because they have an unwavering commitment to making sure their clients see results. Unlike a typical gym, their entire model is based around a personal training experience. Where other, larger fitness franchises often prioritize high membership volumes and general accessibility, Blueprint places its core focus on individualized, high-quality personal training in a private, structured environment.
Understanding that exceptional personal training goes beyond basic certifications, Blueprint Personal Training Owner Alex Kelly made sure he recruited top-tier trainers who view personal training as a dedicated, long-term career. This approach contrasts starkly with the common industry practice where trainers frequently have minimal certifications and high turnover rates.
At Blueprint, trainers succeed because they're given the resources, support, and professional environment necessary to excel. This investment in trainer quality translates directly into exceptional client outcomes. Every session at Blueprint is structured to meet each client's unique goals, whether it's athletic performance, rehabilitation, or personal wellness.

In a year's time with Blueprint Personal Training, Matt lost over 12% body fat and over 20 pounds!
Fitness Tips
From Alex Kelly
Consistency is everything
As a beginner, don't stress too much about what your workouts entail or if you're doing enough. The most important thing is consistency. Whatever you choose to do, be sure to stick with it—even if that means choosing something "easier" for you. After you make a habit of adhering to a plan, you can start to ramp up the intensity.
You can't out-work a bad diet
This old saying holds true. If you want to lose weight or build muscle efficiently, you have to get your diet in check. If you're feeling lost, the nutrition coaches at Blueprint can help. So can registered dieticians, nutritionists, doctors, etc. Don't be afraid to ask for help in the kitchen, it will make a huge difference in your physique.
Weights are for everyone
Regardless of ability or fitness goals, I believe resistance training is important. Weights can help you maintain or even gain muscle while burning fat, resulting in a more "toned" look. New lifters should not worry about becoming too "bulky" or having to lift in the same way a football player would. With the help of a professional, weight training can improve longevity and quality of life as you age. Many will notice dramatic changes in how they feel just a few months into resistance training.
Hire a Personal Trainer
Of course, we are biased. But, a good personal trainer will take the guesswork out of exercise and tailor a plan to your needs so that you can show up and workout without having to think too much. A trainer will also be able to help with form to prevent injury and improve efficiency. Thinking about skipping a workout? That is a lot easier to do when there isn't someone in the gym waiting for you. Many choose to work with a trainer for the accountability factor alone. Even professional athletes need personal trainers.

WHY CHOOSE BLUEPRINT PERSONAL TRAINING?

Offer a personal, clean, and private setting; where you can focus on yourself, distraction-free.
A personal trainer is available whenever you need it for that extra push and accountability.
Part of your journey with Blueprint Personal Training includes personalized diet plans. Their expert team will craft one specific to your goals.
Brand-new, clean Matrix equipment ready for you to start fresh.
24/7 Access to the facilities included.

$420 for (12) 60-minute training sessions. Blueprint also has plans for $320/month and $200/month
Loud distractions and crowded equipment will have you leaving the gym frustrated, and on edge.
You're forced to work around others that are crowding your space.
You'll find poor instruction and lack of information around a proper system of dieting for your needs.
Grungy, sweaty, and smelly old generic equipment that hasn’t been cleaned in ages.
Most other gyms that have personal training staff do not offer 24/7 access.
$700+ for a monthly membership with (12) 60-minute training sessions at the other family gym.

AMANDA PIETERS, AVOCADO DOULA
As the first Evidence Based Birth® Instructor in North Dakota, Amanda provides families with education, physical comfort, emotional support, and postpartum guidance through Avocado Doula. Her services—from body balancing to placenta encapsulation—are designed to honor every family’s unique journey. Amanda explains her service best herself:

"The very first birth I attended was with one of my very best friends. It was during COVID. I wasn’t sure if I would be allowed in the hospital. I was VERY nervous, what if I couldn’t handle it? What if I wasn’t actually cut out for this work?
In the end I left the hospital that night and I felt like I had stepped into my own skin... There is no script for this work— it’s intuition, it’s holding space, it’s paying attention, and it’s offering continuous emotional and sometimes physical support. Doctors and nurses are busy doing their jobs, which is to care for all patients in the hospital at that moment. My job is to stay specifically with the laboring person in front of me and to support the family in the room. I love that, while there are some similarities in all births, the reality is that each birth is a unique and defining moment for that family. It is always a privilege and an honor to be present in that moment."
Who It’s For: First-time parents, VBAC seekers, and birth nerds.
Favorite Service: Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class + postpartum doula care.
"The mission of Avocado Doula is Educate. Empower. Support. Information is power, so the offering I love most is the prenatal sessions. I bring the session and information to the family in their homes. During these prenatal sessions, we talk through various options available for labor and birth and also practice hands-on learning by focusing on labor positions, different movements, and comfort measures. This time with a family is really important—it establishes trust, comfort, and a solid foundation for the time when labor starts. I always say ‘You don’t know what you don’t know,” and I love being able to help people feel more prepared, informed, and empowered as they make the transition into parenthood. | avocadodoula.com

ISOLATION IS REAL. BUT, BELONGING ISN’T A THING OF THE PAST.
BY AMANDA FROST, MARKETING COORDINATOR, FOLKWAYS
We’re spending less time with friends than ever before—down from 60 hours a month in 2003 to just 20 today. To put it in perspective, not having social connection is as harmful to your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day. The good news? Building connection is within our reach. Through intentional spaces, shared moments, and small daily choices, we can foster community and boost our health. Connection isn’t lost— it just needs a space to grow.
That’s where Folkways steps in. This Fargobased nonprofit is tackling loneliness head-on by creating events and experiences that nurture both mental and physical well-being. Their core programs— Christkindlmarkt, Night Bazaar, Red River Market, and CampusFM—are intentionally designed to build relationships, create traditions, strengthen community ties, and provide a space where everyone is welcome. They believe these moments are crucial for our community— because connection is essential to health.
In just a few short weeks, the Red River Market will once again fill the streets of downtown Fargo each Saturday. While it’s known for its local food
and lively atmosphere, it’s also a powerful tool for wellness—feeding bodies, minds, and a sense of belonging. This farmers market is a vibrant community space that celebrates accessible food education, is a business incubator, celebrates culture and the arts, and encourages playful experiences for all ages.
Here’s how the Red River Market supports your health for both your body and your mind.
ACCESSIBLE FOOD EDUCATION
The Red River Market turns healthy eating into a hands-on adventure for kids and adults alike! Each week, cooking demonstrations are hosted by local chefs, dieticians, and food enthusiasts who highlight creative recipes using seasonal ingredients sourced directly from market vendors. Visitors get to taste the creations and can take home recipe cards from the Little Free Recipe Cart. To inspire young eaters, children can participate in the Bite Size Kids club. Kids who try a sample receive a $1 token to spend at any market booth. More than just entertainment, these demonstrations offer a greater understanding of local, healthy food choices.

PHOTOS BY STUDIO
HEALTHY FOOD ACCESSIBILITY
At the heart of the Red River Market is a belief that everyone should have access to fresh, nutritious food. Thanks to their SNAP/EBT matching program, shoppers using those benefits can get up to $15 matched each market day, giving them double the buying power. The funds come as tokens that never expire, so they can be used for healthy food now or at future markets—even next year. To further increase access, the market partners with MatBus to offer free bus rides to and from the market, eliminating transportation as a barrier to fresh, local food.
DIVERSE VENDORS
The Red River Market features a diverse lineup of regional vendors who prioritize sustainable and ethical practices. Shoppers can expect to find wholesome, nutrient-rich food options grown with care and intention. All participating vendors—including food trucks—are required to source ingredients locally. This approach nurtures both community wellness and environmental responsibility.
Here are just a few of the vendors you can check out this summer that are all about good food and good practices!

FAMILY ROOTS FARM
Chemical-free growing practices help preserve the natural nutrients in their produce while avoiding harmful pesticides. Raw honey from the farm contains antioxidants and enzymes that support immune health. Meat options like chicken, lamb, and pork are raised with care, offering hormone-free, ethically sourced choices.
PRAIRIE SOUL MEATS
Grass-fed, grass-finished beef offers more omega-3s and antioxidants than conventional meat. Raised without hormones or antibiotics, the livestock graze on bird-friendly native grasslands, thanks to Audubon-certified regenerative ranching. The result is healthier meat and thriving ecosystems.
BREADSMITH
Preservative-free, freshly baked bread is easier to digest and free from unnecessary additives. Without artificial ingredients, each loaf offers a wholesome alternative to storebought bread. The artisan baking process preserves flavor and nutritional value.
PREHEAT PASTRY SHOP
Locally sourced ingredients like Dakota Maid flour and Three Bears honey bring freshness and flavor to every pastry. Using local products not only supports nearby farms but also ensures baked goods retain more nutrients.
FARMENTED FOODS
Fermented items like kimchi and sauerkraut are rich in probiotics that aid digestion and support immune health. Using imperfect produce helps reduce food waste while proving that beauty isn't required for nutrition. Each jar contributes to a healthier gut and a healthier planet.
THREE BEARS HONEY CO.
Unfiltered honey retains its natural enzymes and antioxidants, offering a nutrient-rich alternative to refined sugar. Sourced from local wildflowers, this honey may also ease seasonal allergy symptoms. It’s a sweet, nourishing addition to any pantry.
KANJI NATURALS
Locally harvested herbs are blended into teas that are both flavorful and potent. Freshness enhances the benefits of each plant, supporting digestion, calmness, and general wellness. These handcrafted blends are rooted in thoughtful growing and intentional care.

MIDHEAVEN GARDEN
Biodynamic farming, practiced here for over 36 years, treats the farm as a self-sustaining ecosystem. This method improves soil health and promotes nutrient-rich produce. Every crop reflects a long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship and nutrition.
NATURE ROOTS FARM
Cold-climate crops thrive thanks to sustainable methods like composting and vermicomposting. These practices enrich the soil while minimizing waste, resulting in produce that’s good for both the body and the environment. The farm’s colorful mix of fruits, veggies, and flowers supports a healthy table.
UNCLE JESSE’S PRODUCE
Pesticide-free vegetables are grown using well-composted manure from local cattle, enriching the soil naturally. This approach supports healthier crops and reduces exposure to synthetic chemicals. The result is food that’s cleaner, fresher, and more nutrient-dense.
CULTURAL AND ARTS PROGRAMMING
The Red River Market is more than just a place to shop—it’s a cultural hub that celebrates creativity and community. Each market features free, all-ages live music and cultural performances, providing paid opportunities for local artists and performers. Themed market days like Global Day, Arts Day, and Growers Day encourage inclusivity and celebrate the vibrancy of our community. Access to the arts enhances mental wellness by reducing stress and encouraging creativity, and enjoying these shared moments helps strengthen your connection with others, building a deeper sense of community.
INTERGENERATIONAL EVENTS
Broadway Square, where the market takes place, is a vibrant space for people of all ages. Playful elements like bubbles, blue blocks, the in-ground water fountains, and the red “spinny chairs” create opportunities for children to engage in creative play. Creative play and STEM activities promote healthy cognitive development. The welcoming atmosphere of the square, with seating areas for all ages and abilities, encourages people to relax in the sun, enjoy live music, and engage in spontaneous conversation, whether catching up with friends or meeting new ones. Each market also features booths from local nonprofit organizations, giving them a chance to share their missions and offer interactive educational activities for all ages. Events like this, with inclusive and engaging activities, help foster a sense of community, promote learning, and ensure that everyone, young and old, has a space to connect.

FINDING BELONGING
The act of supporting local, sustainable food sources not only nourishes your body but also enriches your sense of community. Each interaction at the market, whether with old friends or new acquaintances, fosters meaningful connections that have a positive impact on your mental and emotional well-being. Research shows that a strong sense of belonging can reduce anxiety, improve mood, and contribute to a healthier life overall. So, when you visit the Red River Market, take a seat at an open table, strike up a conversation, and see how these small moments of connection can nourish both your body and your mind.

Meet The MAKER MAKER

Jewelry
Gem
Lady

By Ashley Morken, Owner, Unglued
Photos provided by Ashley Morken
Katie of Lady Gem Jewelry has been creating gorgeous stone jewelry and more that you’ll catch at local markets, online, and at Discontent! She’s got an extensive history of training and studying the craft and it’s so fun to hear how those experiences led to the handcrafted work she does now. Plus—find out what stone is also called a “Northern Lights Rock” and more!
Describe what type of products you make under Lady Gem Jewelry.
My current wearable art display features wire-wrapped stone pendants, rings and earrings, charm necklaces and earrings, hand-crafted stone bracelets, and handstitched beaded bracelets.
Tell us how you got started with your businesses.
My journey into jewelry-making began over 25 years ago when I was pretty young. My Mom brought me to Hemp & Bead, a jewelry supply store that used to be in downtown Fargo. I was hooked and have been creating jewelry ever since.
Over the years, I’ve explored many forms of wearable art. I studied silversmithing and metalwork at Cal Poly State University in Arcata, CA, and learned lampworking and glassblowing from a talented local artist. I managed Beads on Broadway for six years and taught classes there. In 2016, I officially launched my business and began sharing my work through craft shows and online.
Though my techniques and materials have changed and evolved, my passion for creating has remained constant. I have experimented with everything from resin and metal etching to glass and silver, but my heart has found its home in stonework, wire wrapping, and stitchwork.
What are your personal favorite items you've created so far?
Some of my personal favorites have actually come from custom orders. It is so rewarding to see someone’s eyes light up when they see a piece that was created just for them, with their ideas and input.
One of my favorite custom orders was for a former classmate, and now friend. She approached me about a custom wire-wrapped Tree of Life pendant. She wanted the four classical elements represented, as well as spirt and grounding.
I settled on a composite Ethiopian opal cabochon. In the branches of the tree, I used garnet for fire, labradorite for wind, malachite for earth, and moonstone for water. I incorporated a few hematite beads in the roots of the tree to represent grounding and crystal quarts intertwined in the tree trunk to represent spirit. It was such a fun and unique piece to make.
What is the most popular item you specifically sell?
Wire-wrapped stone rings are probably my most popular item, with customers often purchasing more than one at a time. I use sterling silver wire and genuine semiprecious stones, ensuring high quality at a reasonable price. I have a lot of repeat customers coming back to buy more rings with different stones.
Wire-wrapped stone pendants are in a close second. I use sterling silver wire and genuine semiprecious stones in the pedants as well. Each one is unique, no two stones are ever the same, which makes them extra special. In addition to more well-known stones, I also offer rarer stones that customers don’t usually stumble across. Each pendant comes with a chain, so customers can walk away wearing it.
What is the most challenging thing?
One of the most significant challenges in jewelry making is establishing reliable
relationships with trustworthy gem miners and lapidary artists to source authentic, high-quality stones. Building good relationships with reputable suppliers is important to ensure that the gemstones I use are not only genuine but also responsibly obtained to provide quality and integrity in each piece I create.
What is your favorite stone to work with?
That is such a hard question. I have so many favorite stones and it is hard to pick just one. But, I think labradorite (sometimes called “Northern Lights Stone”) is my favorite stone to work with. I love that it is a dark stone but it is able to cast such a bright, colorful flash. The flash in every piece of Labradoite is different. It’s just so cool!
What is something people might find surprising about working with stones?
I think people might be surprised by the variety of gemstones out there. As of 2025, the International Mineralogical Association recognizes over 6,100 different mineral species. Each of these minerals can form unique gemstones, offering a stunning array of colors, shapes, and properties.
The stories behind these stones are equally fascinating. Gemstones are formed through various geological processes, such as crystallizing from hot fluids deep within the Earth or cooling from molten rock during volcanic eruptions. Some, like opals, develop when liquids seep into cracks and solidify. Understanding where they're found and how they're formed adds a whole new layer of appreciation for their beauty and rarity.
Where can people find your work?
People can find my work locally at some of the Unglued Markets, and the Night Bazaar Markets hosted by Folkways, and I will be set up at the Red River Market every Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. from July 12 to October 25. I also have a small amount of jewelry available at Discontent in downtown Fargo.
