Livewire's Tips for Choosing a Live Event Production Company Seek Expertise and Trust the Professionals "Just as you rely on doctors for healthcare and lawyers for legal matters, entrust your events to experienced professionals. Look for a company with a proven track record, a dedicated team, and a deep understanding of event production's variables and intricacies. We've honed our skills over years of experience, navigating the complexities of event planning and execution so you don't have to. Let us bring that expertise to the table— it'll make your life easier, and elevate your event at the same time!"

Choose a Partner Who Can Grow with You "We know that not every event needs a stadium-level amount of production support. Many of our longstanding clients hosting large events today started with a simple, small audio system rental many years ago." "Your event needs may evolve over time, and that's okay! Select an event production partner who can scale their services to match your growth. Whether you're hosting a small meeting or a large-scale conference, your chosen company should have the resources and flexibility to adapt and deliver consistent quality regardless of the event's size. Livewire prides itself on maintaining exactly

that versatility and looks forward to serving your event, large or small, in Fargo-Moorhead or anywhere in the United States."

Offload the Logistics and Focus on Your Core Strengths "Event planning involves countless details, from venue selection and contract negotiation to technical setup and talent advance and management. A reliable, trustworthy event production company will serve as an event planner, handling these logistical burdens and allowing you to concentrate on what matters most: your audience's experience, and the core business objectives of your event."

Prioritize the Audience Experience "Ultimately, the success of any event hinges on the experience of your attendees. Choose an event production partner who shares your commitment to creating memorable, unique, engaging experiences. Look for a company that prioritizes audience satisfaction through meticulous planning, creative solutions, venue transformation, and flawless execution."

DAKOTA CARRIER NETWORK

W

hen North Dakota’s independent broadband providers came together in 1996 to form Dakota Carrier Network (DCN), the internet was still in its infancy. Few could have predicted just how essential fast, reliable connectivity would become in nearly every aspect of business, government, and daily life. Nearly 30 years later, DCN stands as a national leader in broadband innovation, operating the state’s most robust fiber optic network with more than 70,000 miles of fiber stretching across North Dakota and beyond.

A Statewide Backbone of Connectivity From the beginning, DCN’s founders recognized the limitations of older technologies and invested in fiber optics. That foresight has paid off. Today, the company provides broadband, ethernet, and internet services to businesses, schools, hospitals, financial institutions, and state government. With industry-leading, tier III data centers in Fargo and Bismarck, DCN offers secure environments for colocation and cloud computing. Over the past decade alone, DCN and its owner companies have invested more than $1.2 billion into North Dakota’s fiber infrastructure—an investment that ensures the state continues to lead the nation in connectivity and digital readiness.

2 4 | G ROW T H L E A D E R S 2026

A Comprehensive Suite of Services

With this range of services, DCN is positioned not just as a provider, but as a partner in helping organizations grow and thrive in a digital-first economy.

DCN’s offerings go far beyond basic internet. Their portfolio includes:

Carrier Ethernet & Dedicated Internet Access High-capacity, high-reliability connections. Cloud Services & Data Storage/Recovery Flexible solutions for modern businesses. Cybersecurity Solutions Protecting data and systems against evolving threats. Dark Fiber & Wavelength Services Scalable bandwidth for enterprises and carriers. Data Centers & Meet Me Rooms Carrier-neutral hubs designed with flexibility and redundancy.

While fiber and data centers form the backbone of DCN’s operations, the company emphasizes that its true strength lies in its people. A DCN technician is available 24/7/365, and through its owner companies, DCN can tap into the expertise of more than 1,000 employees across the state. Importantly, all support is based in North Dakota—never outsourced—ensuring customers receive help from someone who understands both the technology and the community it serves. This customer-first philosophy is rooted in DCN’s core values of reliability, responsiveness, and relationships. Whether connecting a new office across town or establishing secure links to a business site in another state, DCN ensures the infrastructure and the people are in place to make it seamless.

Advice for Businesses Choosing a Technology Partner Drawing on nearly three decades of experience, DCN offers four key considerations for businesses evaluating technology providers:

WILLIAMS & SCHILLER WEALTH MANAGEMENT

W

hen it comes to managing significant wealth, complexity comes with the territory. Williams & Schiller was built on a simple but powerful premise: connect advanced tax knowledge with sophisticated wealth management strategies to deliver integrated solutions for highnet-worth families, business owners, and retirees. Co-founder Mark Schiller, CPA, CFP®, ABV has 25 years of experience as a CPA and wealth advisor. “Connecting the dots between a client’s tax situation and a tax-wise wealth strategy all under one roof is a huge advantage for us,” Schiller said. “A deep understanding of how those disciplines interact is critically important.”

A Specialized Approach Williams & Schiller focuses on clients whose financial lives extend beyond the basics. Their services are designed to address advanced needs such as: Comprehensive Wealth Management – Tailored investment and planning strategies built around long-term goals. Advanced Tax Planning & Compliance – Delivered by CPAs with specialized expertise in high-net-worth and business owner needs. Business Value Acceleration & Succession Consulting – A formal program to help business owners maximize business value now and prepare for transition on their terms.

Retirement & Tax Strategies – Helping retirees and pre-retirees minimize taxes and design sustainable, tax-efficient income streams. Estate & Legacy Planning – Coordinated plans to preserve wealth across generations. Cross-Border Financial Planning – Guidance for clients living abroad on tax compliance and asset management. The depth of service, all under one roof, allows the firm to provide a 360 degree view of their clients’ financial needs.

The Experience Behind the Expertise With offices in Fargo and Sandpoint, ID, the combined team of 15 includes several CPAs with advanced credentials. Co-founder Mark Schiller is a Detroit Lakes native who has been in public accounting since 2001 and wealth management since 2002, bringing over two decades of combined experience to the firm’s clients. His experience spans both Fargo and Sandpoint, where from 2006 to 2012 he worked extensively with high-net-worth individuals and families in North Idaho. That exposure sharpened his expertise in advanced tax and estate planning, positioning him to serve Fargo’s community of business owners and affluent families with precision. With dual expertise in both the tax and wealth planning arenas, Schiller and the W&S team bring an uncommon perspective to the needs of business owners, retirees, and high-net-worth families.

Tips for Choosing the Right Wealth Management Firm For those evaluating firms, Williams & Schiller suggests four key considerations:

Seek Integrated Expertise

Look for Specialization

Evaluate the Team

Value Personal Service

Firms that connect tax, accounting, and wealth planning spot opportunities others may overlook.

Complex situations require specialists, not generalists.

A strong firm should provide access to multiple credentialed professionals.

Numbers matter, but relationships ensure lasting success.

An Open Invitation Williams & Schiller offers a complimentary initial consultation to prospective clients. Whether it’s tax,

wealth, or business advisory, this meeting provides a chance to review current strategies, uncover overlooked opportunities, and get a no-pressure second opinion on your best path forward.

PREMIERE STORAGE

P

remiere Storage is one of those businesses that solves a problem most of us don’t think about until we’re staring at a garage we can’t park in, a house mid-move, or a backroom at work that’s overflowing. Premiere Storage is a modern, Class A self-storage facility built to make storing your stuff simple, secure, and honestly way less stressful.

North Dakota, temperature swings aren’t a small thing.

A Fargo-Built Storage Facility for Real Life

They also lean hard into convenience. Customers can rent online, manage their accounts digitally, and use app-based access. That's right, no keys!

Premiere Storage was designed by Fargo locals who understood what people here actually need, which is clean units, solid security, and access that doesn’t depend on office hours or a gate code you can never remember. The facility opened recently (constructed in 2024) and was built from the ground up with climate control in mind—because in

What they offer

3 6 | G ROW T H L E A D E R S 2026

Whether you’re a homeowner trying to declutter, a college student between leases, or a business with inventory that won’t fit on-site, Premiere Storage aims to be the “set it and forget it” option. You get the space you need without the stress.

The core of Premiere Storage is straightforward: reliable indoor, climate-controlled self-storage with a wide range of sizes. Units start small—around 25 square feet for a few boxes or seasonal items—and

scale up to about 200 square feet for bigger household moves or business storage. Key features include: Climate-controlled units throughout to protect furniture, electronics, documents, tools, and anything else that is damaged by extreme cold or humidity. Indoor loading/unloading areas so you’re not hauling things through rain, snow, or wind. Two freight elevators and wide interior access making it easy to move items, even for upper-level units. 24/7 access so you can get in when your schedule allows—early, late, weekends, whenever. Camera surveillance and controlled access to keep the building secure.

Why They Stand out in Fargo Fargo isn’t short on storage options, so Premiere Storage leans into what separates a newer, top-tier facility from the older, bare-bones model. First, everything is built around comfort and protection. You’re not choosing between a cheap unit and a safe one—you get clean, indoor, climate-controlled space as the default. Second, their security and access setup is modern: surveillance, controlled entry, and the ability to get in 24/7 makes it feel more like a high-end personal warehouse than a dusty storage row. And third, the building itself is designed to make moving easy. Indoor loading bays, freight elevators, and carts mean you’re not fighting the space while you’re trying to store things. That matters a lot when you’re moving a couch in January or unloading inventory during a busy week.

Moving supplies for sale on-site—boxes, tape, wrap, and the little things you realize you need at the worst possible moment.

Premiere Storage's Tips for Choosing a Storage Partner Premiere Storage offered four simple points that are worth using as a checklist anywhere:

Look for true 24/7 access

Prioritize safety and security

Choose climate control in ND

Make sure loading is easy

If you can only get in during narrow hours, storage quickly becomes a hassle.

Surveillance cameras, lighting, and controlled entry to protect your belongings—and your peace of mind.

It’s not a luxury here; it’s protection from warped wood, cracked electronics, and moisture damage.

Indoor loading/unloading saves time and keeps you out of the elements.

UNSEEN GUARDIANS

U

nseen Guardians is a growing movement of businesses choosing to stand on the front lines of the fight against human trafficking—right from the workplace. Through sustainable monthly giving, Official Unseen Guardian businesses fund Unseen, a platinum-transparency 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and help accelerate real, measurable impact. In the last year alone, Unseen and its 33 anti-trafficking partners directly served 132,050 people worldwide. The Unseen Guardians model is to have businesses show up, commit together, and help push back against one of the greatest injustices of our time. At its heart, Unseen Guardians is about purpose at work. The organization envisions a world where exploiters are stopped, vulnerable people have livelihoods, and survivors pursue lives of freedom and impact. By joining the program, businesses of

3 8 | G ROW T H L E A D E R S 2026

any size or industry can build a culture of meaning and action. Employees don’t have to take on extra tasks or change their day-to-day routines to matter. By simply coming to work, they become part of a movement that protects people and fuels hope.

A program built for impact— and for companies of any size Unseen Guardians exists to make it easy for employers to engage the fight against trafficking in a consistent, sustainable way. When a company joins, Unseen Guardians suggests donating $1 per day per employee each month. It’s a tangible way to recognize the impact employees have by just showing up and doing their jobs. That small daily commitment, multiplied across teams and communities, creates steady funding that supports anti-trafficking work at scale.

J. Alan Paul Photography

A N T I - H U M A N T R A F F I C K I N G G RO W T H L E A D E R

The program was founded by Ryan Goodman and Brady Nash, two entrepreneurs with a shared passion for building philanthropic, people-first workplace cultures. They co-founded Unseen Guardians to help employers bring their businesses—and their employees—into the fight against human trafficking and its root causes. Their belief is that businesses have enormous power to lead change, and employees are most fulfilled when their work connects to something bigger than themselves.

What it’s like to join Signing up to become an Official Unseen Guardian business takes minutes. Companies simply enter their name and choose a monthly donation amount. Many choose to follow the $1/day per employee recommendation, but businesses can select any level that fits.

That kind of shared purpose changes the feel of work. It builds pride. It strengthens retention. And it gives employees a way to see their job as more than a job.

Leading the fight with the help of local businesses Unseen Guardians is on a path to become the first nationally recognized impact badge for businesses of any kind to showcase dedicated support against human trafficking and modern slavery. In Fargo alone, more than 60 businesses have already signed on as Official Unseen Guardians!

Why Unseen Guardians is a great place to work (and a great movement to join)

After signing up, members receive marketing resources and employee engagement tools to help them share their commitment internally and externally. That includes ways to communicate impact, engage teams, and demonstrate that the company is actively supporting the work of ending trafficking.

A culture that includes every employee Employees of Official Unseen Guardian businesses are Unseen Guardians. Just by showing up to work, they enable their employer’s participation in the movement. But they’re also invited into deeper engagement if they want it. Team members can take part in training to spot signs of trafficking and report it appropriately. They may volunteer remotely or in person with Unseen or partner organizations. They can also explore direct-relief projects that help Unseen partners grow their operations and reach more people.

Human trafficking affects an estimated 50 million people globally, including 12.5 million children. It’s one of the most universally condemned crimes in the world, and one that can feel overwhelming to confront alone.

Looking Forward Unseen Guardians is expanding nationally, and the vision is community-driven. The organization plans to create Unseen Guardian hubs in major U.S. cities to host events, grow relationships, and cultivate support among likeminded business leaders and teams. As the network grows, so does the capacity to share tools, collaborate, and scale impact across industries.

Interested in joining? Unseen Guardians welcomes any business ready to commit to purpose. The only requirements are a monthly donation and a genuine desire to be part of something larger than any one company can build alone.

ABOUT JOHN M AC H AC E K John Machacek has been helping local startups with the Greater Fargo Moorhead Economic Development Corporation for over a decade. s the Chief Innovation Officer at GFMEDC, I’ve interacted with hundreds of entrepreneurs over the past decade. Every entrepreneur is different, as are their stories, stages, and needs, so my assistance and responses to them are never quite a cookiecutter template. However, here are some most common resources I often share with startups.

ABOUT ND SBDC

ILT Academy is a startup-focused education platform aimed at empowering entrepreneurs through practical training, mentorship, and community-building.

The North Dakota Small Business Development Center offers comprehensive support to entrepreneurs and small business owners throughout the state. With a network of experienced advisors, it provides free, confidential guidance on starting, managing, and growing businesses. Services include help with business planning, financial forecasting, market research, loan preparation, and marketing strategies.

For those that are early stage, and sometimes still in the idea phase, I’d really suggest looking at the ILT Academy lean startup program. In a cohort model over 10 weekly evening sessions, ILT helps participants with the customer discovery process and validate the idea. The program has been available to Minnesota entrepreneurs for several years and was rolled out in North Dakota this past year.

As someone has worked on their idea a bit more, our local SBDCs (Small Business Development Centers) are probably the most common referrals I make for things like business planning, financial forecasting, market research, and more. Our regional North Dakota office is at the NDSU Research & Technology Park. The regional Minnesota office is on the campus of M-State. Many banks will send young businesses to the SBDC for guidance on projecting revenues, expenses, and cashflow that helps better assess the businesses’ funding needs and repayment capacity.

ABOUT SCORE SCORE is a nonprofit organization that offers free mentorship, workshops, and resources to help entrepreneurs and small business owners succeed.

In addition to ILT, SCORE is another good resource for both early and more seasoned entrepreneurs. This SBAsupported program has a local and national network of volunteers who can provide mentorship and advice as entrepreneurs work through their business planning. Plus, you can find additional templates, tools, and workshops on their website.

A B O U T T H E N D WO M E N ' S BUSINESS CENTER Founded in 2000, the NDWBC focuses on amplifying the economic voice of women-led businesses across the state. Services include free, confidential business coaching, leadership development programs, and events such as the Women’s Business Summit and networking initiatives like "Strong Women, Strong Connections."

The ND Women’s Business Center looks to amplify the voice and success of women business owners, providing a wide variety of resources like business coaching, trainings, events, and intensive workshops.

gener8tor is a nationally ranked accelerator program that supports high-growth startups through mentorship, funding, and access to a broad network of investors and corporate partners.

Emerging Prairie is a nonprofit organization based in Fargo, North Dakota, dedicated to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. It supports the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem by organizing various events and initiatives, including the popular StartupBREW Fargo.

The gener8tor accelerator and gBETA programs have been great additions to our region. These programs are more applicable to startups that have developed their product or MVP, are scalable, and will likely need future funding to scale. gBETA is a free 7-week program for early-stage companies, providing coaching, mentoring, meetups, pitch opportunities, and more. With the accelerator providing a $100k investment and concierge approach, a 12-week program for 5-6 high-growth startups per cohort. There are many more resources for entrepreneurs, especially in funding programs, but it would take me much more space to dive into those. I suggest you check out our Frequently Used Resources on the Entrepreneurs section of our website (gfmedc.com/ doing-business-here/entrepreneurs/), as we do a great job of aggregating area resources for you to look further into.

In addition to these tangible programs, I also would HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting out and about to connect with others in our entrepreneurial ecosystem. Many area startups look to personal connections as a great way to improve their business while also being an active participants in the ecosystem. The access and ability for genuine engagement has been part of our region’s special magic and is something we hear repeatedly from newcomers. Emerging Prairie continues to be a huge catalyst for that and has done an excellent job with their events and their startup programming to help foster connections. I always encourage a founder to connect with their Startup Programs team to get added to the email list for future communications and events. Also, subscribe to the Techstars Startup Digest Fargo biweekly newsletter to learn about resources and the many events & webinars to learn and engage.

Every entrepreneur is different, and every day is different for an entrepreneur. Knowing where to start and look can be difficult, so please know that you have a community full of people who want to help you succeed. A key step is letting others know what you have going on, and then ultimately that can lead to the question many of us here ask, “What can we do as a community to help you succeed?“

ABOUT The North Dakota Development Fund (NDDF) was created in 1991 by the North Dakota Legislature to address a critical need: access to flexible capital for startups and expanding businesses that don’t fully qualify for traditional bank financing. Administered by the North Dakota Department of Commerce, the fund provides “gap financing”—support that bridges what

AT A G L A N C E

a bank is willing to lend and what a business actually needs to get off the ground or scale up. Rather than just offering loans, NDDF distinguishes itself through a mix of equity investments, loans, and convertible debt instruments, giving the state the ability to strategically partner with companies rather than simply act as a lender. Over the past three decades, the North Dakota Development Fund

• Funding Type: Convertible notes or equity investments.

Administered by: North Dakota Department of Commerce

Regional Rural Revolving Loan Fund

Purpose: Designed to provide flexible “gap” financing to businesses that can’t fully secure needed funds through conventional lenders.

• Focus: Encouraging job creation and retention in rural North Dakota.

KEY OFFERINGS

Angel Match Program • Goal: Boost the availability of earlystage capital by matching private angel investments. • How it works: If a North Dakotabased startup secures investment from an accredited angel investor, the NDDF can provide a matching investment—typically up to $250,000. • Who it helps: High-growth startups needing a stronger capital base to accelerate early operations or product development.

• Eligibility: Businesses operating in communities of less than 8,000 people. • Loan Features: Fixed-rate loans (usually low-interest), often combined with local development group or bank participation. • Use Cases: Equipment, real estate, working capital, and facility improvements.

Child Care Loan Program

has catalyzed hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity by supporting more than 400 businesses across tech, manufacturing, retail, healthcare, and services. financial institutions to expand access to affordable capital throughout North Dakota. Its mission is economic development— not profit—and it consistently reinvests earnings into programs that benefit businesses, farmers, students, and communities across the state.

• Maintained a strong, conservative financial rating, with assets surpassing $10 billion. • Helped support more than a third of small businesses in the state indirectly through loan participations or guarantees.
