FACES of Grand Forks 2026

Page 1

When we introduced Faces of Grand Forks in 2025, our goal was to help readers get to know the people behind the businesses in their community. I’m excited to continue that work with another edition highlighting the owners, professionals, and teams who serve Grand Forks—and giving you a chance to learn more about their work, their experiences, and what brought them here. I first heard about the “Faces of” concept in 2016 from a publisher in Omaha, Nebraska. Their magazine introduced local businesses by featuring the “Face” of a particular industry, such as the “Face of Architecture.” What caught my attention was how naturally the concept connected readers with people in their own community. Other publishers shared similarly positive experiences, and I saw an opportunity to bring that same approach to the communities we serve. In 2021, we launched Faces of in Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo and Bismarck-Mandan. We expanded to Sioux Falls the following year and welcomed Grand Forks in 2025. Each edition has given us an opportunity to discover businesses, hear people’s stories, and share them with their neighbors. We’re also planning to add Scottsdale to our lineup this year. As the publication grows, its focus remains local: helping readers learn about the people doing business where they live. Over the past 16 years, Spotlight Media has produced more than 700 magazines dedicated to sharing positive community stories. Faces of carries that mission forward in a personal way. You may recognize someone in these pages, learn something new about a business you’ve visited for years, or discover a service you didn’t realize was available

nearby. Those discoveries are a big part of why we enjoy putting this publication together. It’s also important to explain how Faces of works. This is a “native advertising” publication, meaning each featured “Face of” page is sponsored by the business being highlighted. It is not a “Best of” issue or a ranking of local businesses. Instead, these features offer participating businesses an opportunity to introduce themselves and give readers a closer look at the people behind their products and services. That advertiser support allows us to produce a high-quality publication and distribute 30,000 complimentary copies throughout the Grand Forks community. Our sales and editorial teams work to identify respected businesses and individuals who represent their industries well, then help share their stories. We want these pages to be useful, whether you’re looking for a particular service, getting acquainted with the community, or simply curious about a business you pass on your daily drive. We’re grateful to the businesses that make this edition possible, the people who take the time to share their stories, and the readers who welcome Faces of into their homes and workplaces. Your support gives us the opportunity to keep making these introductions. As you turn the pages, I hope you’ll find someone whose story interests you, a business worth learning more about, or a familiar face you now know a little better. Thank you for reading—and for continuing to support the people and businesses that make Grand Forks the community it is.

For more information about our company, visit our new website at facesofgrandforks.com, or spotlightmediafargo.com. Selections for FACES 2027 are now open. If you or someone you know is interested in being featured, email us at info@spotlightmediafargo.com.

Residential Cleaning Owner & CEO Trisha Lake

TLC Cleaning

T

risha Lake has been an entrepreneur since childhood, selling handmade hot pads, running a worm farm, and starting her first business at just seventeen. Years later, while raising her young daughter and pursuing a nursing degree, she began cleaning homes to make ends meet. During her nursing clinicals, she realized her true passion wasn't healthcare—it was serving people through cleaning. At 3 a.m., she called her father to say she was leaving nursing school. His support gave her the confidence to launch TLC Cleaning.

Sixteen years later, TLC Cleaning has grown into a multimillion-dollar company with locations in Fargo, Grand Forks, and Detroit Lakes, serving more than 1,000 households and businesses throughout the region. Named to the Inc. 5000 list in 2024 and 2025, TLC has remained true to its mission of delivering peace of mind through exceptional service. Beyond cleaning, the company provides free services for cancer patients, partners with local nonprofits, and fosters a familycentered culture built on compassion, reliability, and community.

Today, with nearly 100 team members, TLC Cleaning continues to prove that success is about more than spotless homes. By putting people first—both clients and employees—the company has built a reputation for care, trust, and service that extends far beyond cleaning. erving on a homeowners association board can bring responsibilities that extend well beyond attending a meeting. David Smiley and Ryan Bohn want those volunteer leaders to have a system behind them, with support organized around the needs of their association. As co-founders of Square Foot Commercial Group of Crary RE, they offer a dedicated approach to HOA management. The focus is the association itself, helping its board stay organized, understand its responsibilities, and keep attention on the community it serves. Square Foot’s HOA services include financial oversight, administrative support, and maintenance coordination. Those functions give board members a structured way to handle recurring work and keep information accessible. The company also offers reserve studies, adding a longer view to conversations about future needs. Smiley and Bohn bring 28 years of combined experience to their work. Bohn is a Grand Forks native, while Smiley moved from Omaha in 2019. Their backgrounds are joined by a shared interest in the place they now call home and the people responsible for its neighborhoods. Both serve on the Grand Forks Public Arts Commission’s board. Smiley also serves with the Red River Lions, while Bohn’s involvement includes the Downtown Development Association and leadership within the local real estate community. For an association, the relationship starts with its particular needs. Square Foot emphasizes adapting its support to the board rather than assuming every community operates the same way. The aim is to give leaders clearer information and a structure for their work. That leaves the board better positioned to focus on its residents, priorities, and decisions, with a local team helping organize the responsibilities that continue between meetings and as the association’s needs evolve. or Cutting Edge Resources, a well-maintained yard begins with a relationship. Owner Josh Navratil and crew leads Hudson Flom, Wyatt Olson, Nolan Pieper, and Cam Opp want homeowners to know who is caring for their property and feel confident that the work will get done. Founded in 2021, Cutting Edge Resources has grown into a multi-crew operation focused on service. Its residential lawn care and snow removal help customers keep up with the demands of changing seasons, with communication treated as an essential part of the job. Cutting Edge Resources gives customers direct access to the operators working on their properties. That connection allows homeowners to raise questions with the people doing the work, while reinforcing the accountability Navratil expects from his team. Each property carries the company’s name, and the crew approaches it with that responsibility in mind. Navratil and Flom brought a shared background in UND football to the business. Navratil served as a team captain, and the two accumulated more than 400 hours of community service during their time at the university. Working toward a common goal and showing up for others remain central to how they approach their work today. Those connections also shape Cutting Edge Resources' commitment to Grand Forks. The team supports local organizations and events and looks for opportunities to help people in need through its services. As Cutting Edge grows, Navratil wants to create opportunities for employees while maintaining the personal attention that helped the company get started. For homeowners, the aim is straightforward: a cared-for lawn during the growing season, reliable snow removal when winter arrives, and a crew that takes responsibility for the work outside their front door throughout the year. PRO Resources

Spotlight Media 42 | FACES Of GRAND FORKS 2026

M

anaging the full scope of human resources has become increasingly complex. Large companies reduce risk and control costs by relying on full-scale HR departments. But for small and mid-sized businesses, building that same internal infrastructure simply isn’t cost-effective. Instead, some small businesses roll the dice with a DIY approach or rely on a single, often overwhelmed, HR generalist. In this model, the real cost of HR, including risk exposure, time, and turnover, is rarely measured, but it adds up fast. All considered, engaging an external HR partner provides cost savings. Just as businesses have long outsourced IT, legal, financial, and marketing services, many are now applying the same logic to HR. Traditional HR outsourcing options often stop at the basics: payroll, forms, and compliance checklists. As a Professional Employer Organization (PEO), PRO offers a full corporate HR department: safety, wellness, EAP, insurance administration, payroll, workers’ compensation claims and coverage, HR technology, and on-site support. “We offer what feels like an entire HR army, without the overhead,” said PRO Partner Jason Boutwell. “We’ve built the model so that pricing scales with headcount. That makes it accessible to companies of every size.” Because PRO aggregates purchasing power across its client base, it provides access to Fortune 500-level employee packages, often at a lower cost than small businesses can obtain on their own. PRO can also work with your current providers. From payroll and onboarding to audits and even those tough conversations with employees, PRO handles the heavy lifting, so your leadership team can stay focused on growth. In addition, PRO shares in the risk. As a locally focused PEO, they help mitigate legal exposure with built-in HR compliance support, proactive claims management, and industry-aligned safety programs. Their safety department provides workforce training, risk assessments, and hands-on claims advocacy to protect your people and your bottom line. If you’ve outgrown DIY HR, or your lone HR manager is stretched too thin, PRO Resources delivers big-company HR on your small company budget. PRO RESOURCES 701.298.0226 proresourceshr.com

home can contain individual choices and still need someone to help them work together. At Sterling Carpet One, design guidance gives homeowners a way to connect their ideas and move toward a finished space that feels like their own. President Paula Anderson leads a locally owned, woman-run business that brings design expertise and remodeling guidance into one conversation. Alongside Store Manager Stephanie Schuler, Commercial Manager Ashley Stich, and Account Manager Sam Anderson, she has built a team focused on helping clients understand their options and make decisions with confidence. Sterling’s approach follows a project from its concept through completion. Instead of leaving homeowners to assemble every detail independently, the team helps them consider how the overall space should look, feel, and function. Its website also offers a room visualizer, giving customers a way to explore ideas using images of their own homes before committing to a direction. The business carries that attention to people into its community relationships. Sterling supports the Grand Forks Children’s Museum, sponsors Angel Trees benefiting the Salvation Army and United Way, and participates in local charitable events. Anderson’s involvement reaches beyond the showroom. Her experience includes leadership with the Greater North Dakota Chamber, service as chair of the Grand Forks/East Grand Forks Chamber, and participation on the Carpet One Corporate Advisory Council. She has also been recognized among the Greater North Dakota Chamber’s Women You Need to Know. For Sterling, those relationships are part of working in a place where clients are also neighbors. Each project offers another opportunity to listen closely, explain the possibilities, and help a homeowner bring a cohesive vision to life, with people available to guide the decisions along the way.
