Grace and Peace Be Unto You! Friendship Missionary Baptist Church is one of 960 documented churches in the Charlotte community. I said documented because this number changes rapidly with start-up worship centers and churches. Friendship is a Christian church believing in Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior; The Holy Bible as the Word of God; salvation and forgiveness of sins through confession and grace respectively, water baptism in the name of the Father, Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit.

suggestive of limited examples of our mission and ministry outreach locally and globally. These examples are expressive of our principle in ongoing and continuous striving sacrificially to enhance God’s kingdom on earth. Through mentorship and tutorial partnership in schools; a five-star child development center and Friendship Day School K-5; shelter for women in transition and monthly community table outreach to address hunger in our city. We support our full-time global missionary in Ghana and will dedicate Friendship Village in Moiletswana South Africa in May 2019. These few examples of outreach are all possible because we take our faith and calling by Jesus Christ with utmost seriousness. In 2018, our church theme focused on prayer, being thoughtful as we communicate with God through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. We were praying intentionally about our appreciation of Divine presence and gratitude for all blessings – not requesting anything new or more, just praying prayers of thanksgiving. Our God blessed the missions and ministry of Friendship last year in an unprecedented manner through church membership growth, by impacting our Social Justice ministry, Brotherhood outreach, energizing the Seniors Ministry, reaching our financial goal and spiritually strengthening our ministry leaders -God Be Praised!
Our church theme for 2019 is a continuation of 2018, “Circumstances: Praying Prayers, Prayerfully!” Strive to be mindful of your circumstances as you pray, carefully think before you speak a word in prayer. You are requested to reach out to your neighbor next door and set a time and place outside to pray together monthly – 30 minutes – once per month. Let us prayerfully take back our communities. Also, commit yourself to connect with a ministry, bible study, disciple development class, or volunteerism for

Not included in these figures are Youth Opportunity University, our community food and volunteer hours donated, International Children Outreach Ministry, Genesis Fund for Catastrophe Relief nor our other 501c3 entities.

Friendship Community Development Corporation (FCDC) April 2018: Hosted a breakfast and Community Conversation on Affordable Housing. Panelists included former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx and Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles who discussed the affordable housing challenges facing Charlotte and prospective ways to mitigate the challenges.
January 2018: The 5th annual FCDC Fashion & Food Extravaganza was an evening of arts and entertainment. The extravaganza kicked off with an appetizer reception presented by Sweet Creations, and music by the McCrorey Senior African Drummers. Attendees also had the opportunity to shop at the vendor exhibition, which included almost 15 vendors.
May 2018: Co-sponsored and hosted the North Carolina Department of Transportation Highway Dedication Ceremony, which renamed Interstate 85 between Interstate 77 (exit 38) and the Interstate 85-connector (exit 42) after the late attorney, civil rights activist, and Friendship Missionary Baptist Church member Julius Chambers.
Ramona Halloway, 107.9 THE LINK, emceed the Great Things! runway show featuring casual and semi-formal ethnic attire. The show was a prelude to the Great Things! Ethnic Trunk Sale, and each look modeled during the show sold out during the trunk sale!
September 2018: The 10th anniversary of Hunter Memorial My Sister’s House Charity Golf Tournament held at Irish Creek Golf Club. Almost 110 golfers raised more than $25,000 to help offset the operational costs for My Sister’s House transitional living program.

January 2018: The 10th annual Bridging Musical Worlds featured A Sign of the Times, Charlotte Symphony, and musicians from UNCC playing music that celebrated the life, legacy, and work of Dr. King. Prior to the concert, more than 150 people participated in Dinner on the Yard, a community meal and conversation, which was provided by Sweet Creations of Charlotte (a subsidiary of FCDC).

Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts had its inception through the visionary leadership of Dr. Clifford Jones, Sr. and Mrs. C. Brenda Jones, senior pastor and first lady, respectively, of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. These two tireless advocates for youth development and educational advancement had long envisioned a school that embraced innovation, rigor and character development within the framework of evidence-based educational research. Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts is an appropriate complement to Friendship Missionary Baptist Church’s acclaimed summer Youth Opportunity University (Y.O.U.) program that for over 15 years has engaged youth in an eight-week summer academic and enrichment program. Approximately 400 youth enroll in the summer program each year. Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts also is an appropriate adjunct to the five-star Marizetta Kerry Child Development Center located on the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church campus on Beatties Ford Road.

Launched on August 21, 2017 with enrollment of thirteen scholars, Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts has benefited from the conceptual input of several dozen educators and community leaders who have invested countless hours in research and discourse about educational philosophy. Relevant studies from the most recent brain and learning research have informed Friendship Day School’s curricula. The result is a school that will offer a rigorous academic program that allows scholars to engage, explore, and evaluate the world through the lens of the sciences and the arts in a private school setting open to youth of all faiths and ethnicities. Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts also offers an innovative and integrated arts program. Scholars learn selfdirection and character building through attention to mindfulness and guided meditation. The School seeks to provide rigorous curricula that prepare scholars for the competitive environments of college-bound students living in a global society.

2018 Enrollment Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts
Enrollment for the second year continues to grow with more than doubling in size with a kindergarten and 1st/2nd grade class. FDS accepts applications year-round. Scholars attend FDS from metropolitan Charlotte and beyond, including neighboring city, Gastonia, NC.

Youth Opportunity University (Y.O.U.)

Youth Opportunity University (Y.O.U.) is a community-oriented program designed for global children (Pre-Kindergarten-9th Grade) to improve their academic performance and to provide a variety of enrichment experiences. This 8-week session is composed of academic preparation for the upcoming school year, spiritual and cultural awareness, physical activity and community engagement.

Over 400 students were registered for the Summer 2018 session and includes Bible study, Latin, Spanish, weekly swimming and field trips by certified lead teachers.
Marizetta Kerry Child Development Center Marizetta Kerry CDC is proud to be a premier 5-Star center in the historic West End developing the whole child beginning at six weeks through twelve years of age. In 2018, the Center: • Continued to grow its enrollment and increased its license capacity, • Made building and security enhancements throughout the facility, • Continued programming add-ons such as Parents’ Night Out, Spanish Instruction and InClass Technology, • Maintained partnerships with Friendship, Child Care Resources, Smart Start, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina and Child and Adult Care Food Program while Developing a new partnership with the Summer Feeding Program, • Expanded our Pre-Kindergarten program to include three NC Pre-K and two MECK (Universal) Pre-K classrooms.

Scholarships are given to both first time and renewal applicants. The Fund has aided students in several ways including assisting with tuition, room and board expenses, and the purchasing of books. Within the past 8 years, we have given over $250,000.00 in scholarships using interest gained on the principal.
The Gallery at Friendship
We are located on the 1st floor behind the Welcome Center with hours of operation from Sundays 8:30am – 1:30pm, Wednesdays 5pm-7pm and Saturdays 10am2pm. To better serve our clients, during peak seasons in 2018, we extended our hours to include Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm-8pm.
In May, we hosted ‘Look in a Book’, a family event featuring local authors reading and signing children’s books. Our guests included authors Helen Kimbrough, B. Edward Swift, Martha Rucker, Marion McKinney and Carmen K. Jimenez-Pride as well as a representative from the Beatties Ford Road Regional Library. Throughout the year, The Gallery offers seasonal and consistent promotions such as Gallery GREEN 10%, Dollar Days, GrabN-Go, Island Blitz, Holidaze and others to encourage clients to take advantage of retail with a mission and save.
During the holiday season, we offered custom-designed Christmas wreaths, complimentary apple cider nights and free gift-wrapping with purchase. Our future goals include continuing to leverage relationships with consigners, partnering with ministries to serve as their event payment center and growing our volunteer base. Genesis Charitable Fund for Catastrophe Relief (Genesis)

In 2010, Genesis Charitable Fund for Catastrophe Relief (Genesis), began a mission to provide a holiday celebration for the children of Charlotte where they could experience God’s love through our church family’s generosity. Following devastating Hurricane Harvey in 2017 in Port Arthur, Texas, and Hurricane Florence in 2018, we expanded the Spirit of Christmas to include Kenansville, Burgaw, Ivanhoe and Elizabethtown, North Carolina. • Charitable giving and fellowship: Nativity Scene, new coats, new shoes, toys, a meal and Santa
• Spiritual guidance and prayer: Prayer and support to families • Learning and education: Books and educational games by age group • Knowledge and Empowerment: Information Desks for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, Voter Information, and the Affordable Care Act Genesis continues to advance its mission to support community empowerment in Charlotte, across our nation and around the world as we respond to the catastrophes of homelessness, hunger and disenfranchisement.

Children and Youth TEDDY BEAR DRIVE During the Easter Extravaganza over 100 children participated in making inspirational door hangers which they stuffed in bags along with a cuddly soft teddy bear for children at Levine Children’s Hospital. The teddy bears were donated by the Friendship Family which brought smiles to the faces of 185 children.
HALLOWED BE THY NAME FOOD DRIVE As children gathered for the fun festivities of Hallowed Be Thy Name they did not forget about the homeless. Children dropped off 192 can goods at the Mission Booth for the community table. STOCKING AND ORNAMENTS FOR CHRISTMAS The Youth & Children’s Mission Ministry partnered with the Quilting Ministry to make Christmas Ornaments & Stockings. The children made over 100 beautiful ornaments while the youth partnered with a member of the Quilting ministry to make very gorgeous stockings for our military men & women. As the Youth went caroling for Christmas, they shared the ornaments with the residents of Saturn Nursing Center and We All Care HomeCare.

SATURN NURSING CENTER Over 45 youth & children along with many parents blessed the residents at Saturn Nursing Center in June through games, nail polishing, cake walks, and musical selections. Through donations provided by the various ministries and members of FMBC, all 115 residents received a special gift bag with lotion, body wash, and socks.

Vacation Bible School 2018 Our Vacation Bible School theme for VBS 2018 was Rolling River Rampage. Our theme Bible verse was “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.” Isaiah 43:2, CEB. Rolling River Rampage provided Christian Education opportunities to our PreKindergarten – Adults for five days. We served over 600 children and adults with our VBS Kickoff that took place Sunday, July 20th, and our nightly classes that occurred Monday, July 21st – Thursday, July 24th. Participants discovered an interactive, energized, Christian Education experience that led each participant to experience a ride of a lifetime with God! Participants became spiritual rafters and explored how to serve God and God’s mission for their lives. Rafters engaged with interactive Praise and Worship that was led by our Music Ministry, arts and crafts, science, recreation, mission, and interactive bible activities.

Mission Blitz 500 was a response to a call to do something in the wake of Hurricane Florence (September, 2018) that ravaged Eastern, N.C. Pastor Jones and a small team visited the damaged areas and four cities, Burgaw, Ivanhoe, Elizabethtown and Kenansville, were selected to provide Christmas cheer by way of tailgate, adopt-a-family, generic gifts, prayer service, distribution of prescription eyeglasses, blood pressure and diabetes screenings and fellowship on December 14-15, 2018. Kenansville– 271 served Burgaw—319 served Elizabethtown—700 served Ivanhoe—234 served (2) 52-passenger bus carried Friendship volunteers to each site • Numerous cars/trucks delivered gifts and other site supplies • Over 80 volunteers showed up to sort, package, and

Hallowed Be Thy Name Over 800 children attended our annual Hallowed Be Thy Name festival on October 31st. The evening featured hay rides, carnival games, a video games trailer, bounce houses, face painting, cotton candy, snow cones, balloon twisting, pumpkin cake walk, popcorn, a DJ and more! The event was free; but, each child was asked to donate a canned good for our community mission emphasis.

Women’s New Perspective Ministry The vision of the Women’s New Perspective Ministry (WNPM) is to provide women with the opportunity to participate in local, state and global mission outreach with emphasis on deepening our faith and developing our spiritual gifts. We promote biblically based Christian relationships in our homes, church, and community, as we strive to become servants affirming God’s Word. Brotherhood Ministry

We are the men of God, called to be leaders in our families and community. We develop through learning the expectations of a Christian man (biblically), socializing with like minded Christian men and taking action to meet community and church family needs. Our main focus is to teach men to engage each other spiritually to become what God wants us to be. We work on community projects (Serving at the Statesville’s men shelter, cooking for the Prayer breakfast, building handicap ramps, Sunrise Morning Call and Ushering) as well as working with other ministries within the church. The Brotherhood meets every other month on the 3rd Tuesday starting at 7:00pm.
MINISTRIES & MISSIONS • October 20th - Sponsored a seminar that focused on our relationship to God. Dr. Eddie Davis led a discussion on “Living Courageously” and Rev. Reginald Blackmon facilitated a session on “Trusting God with Your Relationship”. • October 27th - Annual Banquet with a theme of “Serving with a Purpose”. Awards were given out to several persons who had been instrumental to the success of the ministry. • TEAM D of Brotherhood Ministry had 23 dedicated mentors who met weekly with 73 elementary school aged male students in the CMS school district. • In collaboration with The Christian Men’s Alliance Ministries and Love Inc., built seven (7) accessibility ramps. • Men’s Shelter – Every 3rd Thursday of the month, men from the Brotherhood meet at the Statesville Ave. Men’s Shelter (3410 Statesville Ave.) to serve dinner to homeless men. Additionally, the Brotherhood purchased 20 wallets along with a gift card for men at the Statesville Ave. Men’s Shelter. • Sunrise Morning Call – Every Tuesday and Thursday we hold a devotional call aimed at strengthening men in Christian Development as we grow in our faith walk. All (male and female) are welcome to join us at 6:00 am by dialing 641-715-3680 access code 281978#. • K.I.T. (Keep In Touch) Program – The Brotherhood reminds our members that someone is thinking about them. We remind through birthday cards, calling our sick and shut-in members.

• May 9th - At the Friendship Sportsplex on the FMBC campus, over 50 students in the mentoring program (between Briarwood & Stoney Creek Elementary Schools) were able to participate with the field trip. • May 17th – 19th – Men’s Retreat held at The YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain, NC. Pastor Jones delivered a spirited send off after two days of teaching, selfreflection, testimonies, prayer and fellowship. • June 10th - Travelled to Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC, to worship with their Men’s Ministry (The Men of God). • June 17th - Brotherhood circulated literature and ribbons for National Prostate Cancer Awareness day. • August 21st - Mentors welcomed the students & the faculty back to school for the new school year. The Brotherhood provided the Briarwood & Stoney Creek faculties with coffee and donuts as a form of recognition for all they do to help our kids. • September 8th - Hosted the Piedmont District of The North Carolina Laymen of The General Baptist State Convention Inc., quarterly meeting. • October 20th - Brotherhood Ministry and The 100 Black Men of Charlotte co-sponsored the Men’s Health Symposium. The event reached out to men of the church and community including transportation to and from the local Men’s Shelter to provide free screenings and follow-up for blood pressure, cholesterol, A1C, HIV, prostate cancer and urine analysis.

Marriage Enrichment Group (MEG) The goal of the Marriage Enrichment Group (MEG Couple Connection) is to build stronger marriages, families, churches and communities through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We offer various activities through the year to include the various ages and interest of the group. We also have an interactive Sunday School class each Sunday at 9:30am where we encourage married, engaged and seriously dating couples of all ages to participate.

Seniors in the Spotlight BIBLE STUDY Join the Seniors in the Spotlight as we study the Bible. The Bible is God’s roadmap to Heaven, eternal life. It was written with a purpose—to authenticate the Divinity of Christ, to give hope, to provide examples and warnings, to give knowledge of Eternal Life. It is a life giving and life changing Book. TRIP The Seniors traveled to Ohio and Kentucky during October 2018. Over 60 active seniors visited the Ark Encounter and National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.
LINE DANCING Love all types of music? Like to dance? Enjoy fun and fellowship while burning calories, improving your flexibility, and helping your heart with the Seniors Line Dancers.

EXERCISE CLASS Cardio exercises assist seniors with movement and flexibility while building self-esteem. The majority of each session consist of cardio-related movements to increase strength and improve circulation. The complete exercise program include sitting, standing, and stretching. The goal is to have fun exercising while gaining the benefits of good health. Wheelchair and visually impaired participants are welcome.
ARTS AND CRAFTS Our Arts and Crafts class is designed to develop the artistic side! Projects can be used for personal use or as gifts. A variety of crafts will be planned throughout the time period. Class displays at the Beatties Ford Library.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES • The FMBC Walk Team plans weekly walking and hiking activities for the brother and sister team members and guests. • We seek to help ensure good health • Be Faithful Walkers and a Praying Team • Work to serve others • Love each other more fully and completely • Walk to make a difference by joining citywide walk/race events • Volunteering at My Sister’s House, tennis fundraiser and serving meals PLACES WE WALK • The walk team made the following unique walks and hikes this year: Cooper River Bridge, Race for the Cure, Crop Walk, Pilot Mt., Crowder Mt. and Stone Mt. • The team also walked the following Greenways: Mallard Creek, Little Sugar Creek, McAlpine Creek, UNC Charlotte and Catawba River. • The team also walks in various neighborhoods such as The Highlands, Dilworth, South End, Ft. Mill, and Uptown.

Health and Wellness Women’s Health Symposium was held March 2018. The focus was bringing awareness to our physical (i.e. knowing your numbers-blood pressure), mental and spiritual needs. Our focus was on: • Knowing your numbers: blood pressure and risk factors • Mental health focused on bringing awareness to Bipolar Disorder • Spiritual needs: allowing time for prayer and meditation
Global Health
Economic Empowerment Ministry ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT MINISTRY • The Economic Empowerment Ministry (formerly Business Solutions) released the FMBC Economic Empowerment Guide (EEG) in February 2018. • The EEG profiled small and minority business owners in our church family and included business articles and business growth strategies for current and aspiring entrepreneurs. • The EEGs were introduced to our church family during a tradeshow between worship services where all advertisers in the EEG had a booth to share information about their business with members.

September 2018, A group of medical professionals and volunteers provided medical services at the A. Carlisle Medical Clinic in Dermerara-Machaica, Guyana, South America. The team treated medical, dental and OB-GYN patients in addition to referrals. Over 1,000 medications were provided to the clinic’s pharmacy.

In 2011, the Friendship Missionary Baptist Social Justice Ministry (SJM) launched its first mission endeavor called Earth Fair. The mission involved inviting local farmers to sell their fresh produce to residents on the campus of the church. SJM has expanded its reach to include: Voter I.D. and Registration from a historical perspective to today’s voter rights, public education, human trafficking, public safety, social media, and very soon Public Health and Housing. In 2017, SJM initiated a 26-week program called Civics 101: A Road Map to Voter Empowerment. The program engaged community
leaders to share their wisdom and experiences through presentations, films and Q&A sessions. SJM partnered with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., to host political forums for the community to meet and greet prospective candidates running for public office. In 2018, SJM launched Civics 101: Interrupting the Cradle to the Prison Pipeline creating a venue for candid conversations with judges, lawyers, politicians, ex-offenders and police officers. Quilting Ministry “Sewing with Friendship isn’t just any hobby, but it is a way of expressing the glory of God through a passion for designing quilts.” Last year the Quilting Ministry provided quilts for the following: • A Child’s Place • Hospice/Pallative Care • Guest Ministers @ FMBC • “Foust” - the company we purchase the majority of our quilting fabrics and supplies from.
• Loving Touch Adult Daycare • Christmas stockings were made and provided to the Military Ministry for delivery to VA Hospitals and Active Duty Military Personnel • My Sister’s House • “Mission Blitz 500 Project” • Life Share • Trinity Episcopal School’s inaugural African American Heritage Festival featuring a display of quilts and history of our Quilting Ministry.
As “Servants,” the Philip & Phoebe Ministry functions in a supportive role to the Deacon Council and the church. We assist with baptism, communion, sacristy duty, funerals and other church-wide services such as Women’s Day, Palm Sunday, prayer breakfast and praise and worship.

Queen City Assisted Living Facility: We provide various snacks, once a year, to the facility to help replenish the snack room at the facility. My Sister’s House: We prepare and serve a home cooked Sunday dinner, four times a year (once a quarter), to approximately 25 residents at My Sister’s House. Spirit of Christmas: We provide 20 plus coats for kids in need.

Praying Disciples • • • • •

The Praying Disciples meet weekly on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:30pm to pray for persons on church prayer list, prayer cards, other prayer requests, local and world issues/concerns. The Praying Disciples held a 12-Hour Prayer Vigil. This spiritual service included prayers, songs, scriptures, testimonies, witnessing and homilies. Praying Disciples held worship services at Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home and Saturn Nursing Home. The Praying Disciples held a member devotional service in the home of one of our Deacon Emeritus. The Praying Disciples helped with the worship services for Mission Blitz in Burgaw, Ivanhoe, Elizabethtown and Kenansville, North Carolina.

Community Table The Friendship Community Table, although not a food pantry, serves members of Friendship, Charlotte Mecklenburg food pantries and local public schools on the first Monday of the month through donations of non-perishable food items , school supplies, and financial contributions. The Friendship Community Table’s reach continues to expand its food distribution to feed communities affected by natural disasters, i.e. Beaumont and Port Arthur, TX, Baton Rouge, LA, eastern North Carolina: Lumberton, Kenansville, Burgaw, Ivanhoe and beyond. In 2018 the Friendship Community Table distributed 24,916 lbs. of food and collected $48,798 in financial donations to serve the impoverished.

The DeiVision of Music & Arts WITHIN THE LIFE OF FRIENDSHIP The DeiVision of Music & Arts is actively involved within the life of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church throughout the year, by its weekly participation in the church’s worship services. The DeiVision is inclusive of choirs for adults, children and youth, orchestral and handbell instrumental ensembles, drama and visual arts, adult and youth dancers, and sign language interpreters for the deaf, and/or hard of hearing.

Bach Akademie Charlotte Concert & Masterclass 3301 FMBC Sanctuary January 2018 The DeiVision of Music & Arts hosted a concert and masterclass by Bach Akademie Charlotte: a specialized performance organization dedicated to presenting historically informed performances, and providing educational opportunities about the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Bechtler Museum of Modern Art Wrestling the Angel: A Century of Artists Reckoning with Religion February 2018 Friendship’s choir was the featured performer for the unveiling of this art exhibit that examined how religion and sacred art appear in works made by seemingly secular, avantgarde artists.
