President’s Message
‘Leadership—Elimination of Risk’
We recently had a meeting in Halifax with the senior management of the company. One of the main topics of discussion, as usual, was ideas of how to continue to effectively manage the daily risks that our industry (and our company) faces each and every day. The discussion was interesting to say the least. The first thing we did was to examine where the problems are occurring in a) our industry, and b) our company. Then we examined the root cause of some of these problems. What we came up with was that the “open flame” torching application of certain roof systems was indeed the culprit way too often. As you are all aware, we have put into place many measures and resources to “manage” this risk. After all, since the day we started to use open flame torches some fifteen years ago, we knew it presented added risk. It’s just common sense. Most of our good safety conscious competitors have put preventative systems in place as well, but despite all these efforts, our industry is still experiencing problems, which result in property damage and even worse, personal injury. In an effort to reduce the risk associated with open flame torching even more within our company, we have made a couple of decisions for immediate implementation of which you all need to be aware:

Our Managers at each branch have been challenged to reduce all “torchable” purchases over the next twelve months. There are other systems and methods of application out there that result in a high quality roof system, which do not have the risks that go along with open flame torches—especially at perimeters and openings, where most fires start. It is time for us to be a market leader. I encourage you all to embrace this change with an open mind. We will be soliciting training from our suppliers to assist you all with the application techniques of non-torch-applied systems where required. These decisions are made for a few reasons, not the least of which is the personal safety of our staff and those around us, which of course is our #1 concern. We sincerely believe that these proactive measures will result in a safer workplace environment, with less risk of causing property damage—which is, of course, disruptive and inconvenient for our customers. Should any of you have any further ideas that work towards the goal of reducing/eliminating this risk, please contact your supervisor, or better yet—make a TASK submission! Corporate News On-Site Training Benefits Office Staff Each day, a multitude of project information is managed by a multitude of Flynn office staff. Sketches, bills of material, purchase orders, invoices, stock numbers, supplier codes and correspondence… the list is endless. However, many have been wondering things like, “What is this ‘base sheet’ I am purchasing, or the ‘growing medium’ I always hear about?” Management in Toronto realized that although these employees aren’t physically working with these products, they should at least have a basic understanding of what they are and what they do. So, as part of an ongoing training program, Doug Flynn (below, far-left) took IT and Corporate staff members up to the roof for hands-on “Roofing 101” training. It was all part of the, “What Exactly Do We Do?”, training day held earlier this summer. Those who attended are now better informed and understand specifically how their actions impact projects and those who work on the projects. In other words, being better informed has enabled them to make better decisions within their particular roles. We encourage all employees to be proactive and better inform themselves through ongoing training. Talk to your supervisor about what training you may want or need. It will not only add to your current job enjoyment, it will make you a more valued employee. Remember, people are our #1 asset.
Board of Directors & Senior Managers Meet in Halifax As tropical storm Beryl began to bear down on the Maritimes recently, Flynn’s Board of Directors and partners from across Canada concluded their annual meetings in Halifax and began to head for home. Good thing—as Beryl pounded the area with heavy rain and major winds! Since communication continues to be one of our company’s greatest challenges, the meetings were designed to bring together all Senior Managers to discuss common issues and best practices while creating a vision for the company’s future opportunities.

Human Resources Group takes over benefit program By Kim Foster, Human Resources Manager
As some of you may be aware, there have been some changes to the administration of our current Manulife Benefits program. In January ‘06, Erica Toth joined Flynn’s Corporate Human Resources team. Shortly thereafter, the administrative support of Flynn’s benefits program was transferred from the Winnipeg payroll office to the Human Resources department in Toronto. With that being said, Erica Toth and myself are now responsible for working with our current insurance carrier to ensure that all of your benefits questions are answered, your issues are resolved, and your claims are reimbursed in a timely manner. Should you or anyone in your family have inquiries regarding your coverage, should you be required to add or remove a dependent from your benefits, or should you wish to make a change to your beneficiary, we welcome you to contact either Erica Toth or myself, Kim Foster, at 905-671-3971.
Flynn Canada Ltd. Announces Move Into Curtain Wall Market With almost ten years of experience since becoming a major player in the architectural panel market, it was only a matter of time before Flynn Canada Ltd. entered the glass and glazing business. The keys to any informed business decision are knowing the facts, having the right people, and timing. In this case, the stars were all lined up. And so, Doug Flynn was very pleased to announce that John Silva (below) joined Flynn in mid-June as Manager, Business Development, based out of our corporate office in Toronto. John is a construction industry veteran with twenty-six years of experience. His employer for the last number of years had been Kawneer North America, a leading manufacturer of architectural aluminum building products. John left Kawneer as General Manager for the wall & window business, based out of Kawneer’s North American head office in Arkansas. Prior to that, he was President for the Canadian operations of Kawneer, a sizeable division with approximately 480 employees. John’s desire to return to Canada ultimately led him to Flynn Canada Ltd. John will be working closely with Art Bundschuh in preparation for Flynn entering the glazing contracting business in Canada… and perhaps beyond. John is also very familiar with the architectural panel business, and will play a role in our efforts there as well. This new plan is a major boost to continuing the ongoing growth of Flynn. Further announcements on the progress of this important development within our company will be forthcoming.

(Teamwork Attitude Sharing Knowledge) Lloyd Lockwood, Saskatoon branch, wins the $200 TASK prize for pointing out the need for a jobsite equipment lock-up box, and for doing something about it. Some months ago, it was brought to Lloyd’s attention that gas containers were being stolen from job sites, and that fire extinguishers had been discharged—even from secure sites that had video surveillance. So Lloyd decided to take action and created a relatively lightweight lock-up box.
National Accounts and Branches Team Up for Re-branding Business Empire Theatres, Canada’s second largest cinema exhibition company—with approximately 3,000 employees—have joined a growing number of companies who are utilizing Flynn Canada Ltd. not only for their roofing needs, but for their metal needs as well. Empire Theatres, whose headquarters is located in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, operates some fifty-four theatres totaling 403 screens throughout Canada, including one IMAX theatre in Halifax, NS. Jon White and Steve Pass successfully tendered on three new Empire facilities, including the Lower Sackville theatre (shown above), which was completed in 2004. The Truro and Lower Sackville facilities were completed with Maxim Construction while the Yarmouth project was completed with RCS Construction. Gerald LeBelle was the architect on all three projects. Steve Pass was the Project Manager on these projects, along with Site Foreman John Fleming. Each building consisted of approximately 22,000 square feet of corrugated metal cladding horizontally installed with 12-gauge subgirts and a rigid board insulation. Although the majority of the buildings are black and silver, there is an eye-catching combination of five post-painted colours used as well.
National Account reps Chris Doucette and Ken Mahoney then met with Todd Polley of Empire to discuss their facility’s management and image/branding program. And so, Flynn are currently doing all of Empire’s emergency roof leak repairs across the country. Ken has also been working with Todd to have Flynn products specified across the country for their entire new construction program. Dave Flint and Rick Fisher in Victoria have also been working with Chris on a large Empire re-roof in Victoria. Victoria branch had previously done roofing service work on an existing Empire Theatre in Victoria. Dave and Rick have utilized Chris and his contacts to acquire the contract to completely re-roof the same building. Flynn Canada Ltd. looks forward to working with Empire right across the country—for the long-term.
The mesh lock-up has brackets which allow it to be chained to something more stationary, if left overnight or over a weekend, for example. It measures 4’ long by 2’ wide and is 2 ½’ high, stands elevated 6” off the ground and can be used for rooftop storage of fire extinguishers or other small articles to prevent theft and/or damage. Other TASK submissions were made by Mike Rodrigues (Hamilton) and Wayne Gaiser (London). We encourage you all to send in your ideas. They not only help build a stronger company, but can be worth $$$!

Flynn Lands Largest Single Contract in Company History:
The Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion Project In 2003, some $100 million in delegate spending was lost because Vancouver didn’t have enough meeting space to accommodate groups wishing to hold conventions in the city. This will not occur again. The Municipal, Provincial and Federal governments, as well as local businesses are funding the $615 million dollar expansion of the existing convention centre. The project, which is being built on the site adjacent to the west side of Canada Place, is construction-managed by PCL Constructors—and Flynn Canada Ltd. is a major player. Featuring floor-to-ceiling glass throughout the expansion the project will also include a six-acre living roof by Flynn— one of the largest of its kind in the world. This unique ecosystem green roof is one of many environmental innovations included in the expansion. The 1.1 million square foot project will triple the Convention Centre’s existing capacity and help generate an additional $107 million annually in delegate spending.
Built over land and water on some 1,000 piles, the expansion will be completed in late 2008. In 2010, the VCEC will be home to the 2010 Olympic and Parolympic Games media and broadcast centre. In order to ensure that the expansion and existing facility are fully integrated, a glass-walled connector will link the facilities; providing delegates with exceptional harbour views as well as a seamless transition. Because of its unique downtown waterfront location, the project has tremendous commercial and retail capacity. In addition to creating more than 6,000 person years of employment during construction, the project will generate more than 7,000 direct and indirect full-time jobs once it’s opened. In addition to the massive green roof, Flynn is also supplying and installing extruded aluminum grated wall panels, architectural aluminum composite wall panels, zinc fascia panels, soffits and parapets, interior stainless steel and grated panels as well as conventional sandwich panels. In all, the total contract value to Flynn is the largest single contract in the company’s history! A team led by Don Belton, Vice-President—Metals, and
Pete Taylor, Vancouver (of Omaha fame) will take on this large and prestigious project. In consideration of the task at hand, John McManus, Vice President— Toronto, offered his encouragement and assistance by sending both Don and Pete a Convention Centre “Green Roof Start-Up Kit”. The kit included a sun hat (in Vancouver?), a watering can (in Vancouver?), and a spade. All in good fun, of course. On a more serious note, Flynn would like to thank the many employees who worked countless hours to prepare the estimate and final contract proposal which secured this notable contract. Special thanks to Jason Wilson, Senior Metals Estimator, and Mark Aguis, Senior Roofing Estimator (both from Toronto branch) who worked closely with Wayne Mack and Ken Smith from our Vancouver branch to pull off this very tricky project. Simon Fraser University: Chancellor Gymnasium Flynn Canada Ltd has once again displayed its unique abilities to perform multiple scopes of work on a high-profile project. Dominion Fairmile Construction have again awarded Flynn a major contract; which is not only based on our ever-growing relationship, but also on our versatility and ability to perform all of these scopes—making their project management that much easier. Superintendent Kirtis Bergen and Foreman Don Kristensen, along with Ken Toews, Tony Bockman, Giang Pham, Tien Pham, Hinh Van Luu, and James Taylor showed their versatility by performing many different aspects of the flat roofing portion of this project. The roofing included Firestone TPO, Soprema SBS, and Siplast SBS. Of course, we can never forget the guys who come and terminate all the finished roofing and make it look pretty—our flashing boys. Not only did Flynn perform three types of flat roof systems, we also experienced for the first time a fully perforated acoustical metal deck with a 3” profile that was installed on glu-lam beams. After the decking and roofing was completed, our cladding crews, consisting of Bryce Young, Matt Pringle, Tiger Lu, and Ryan Boyer, stepped in to install a Seam-Loc standing seam roof complete with insulation on split sub-girt system. Great job, guys, on a true team effort.

removal of glass panels and the installation of new decking, insulation, and standing-seam roofing system. As this is a government office, many workers needed to remain in the space during construction. There were many different facets to coordinate; including significant personnel moves and two sub-trades. Pictured above, Foreman Shawn Mason (left) along with Mike Pilling (right) were responsible for making this very labour intensive job go smoothly. Great job!
One of Darren’s first orders of business was to hire a good Shingle Foreman and surround him with good young workers who want to learn the trade. Stan Gardner was hired as that Foreman and we are very encouraged by how Stan and his crew are working out. And Wayne McClintock has rounded out the team—joining Flynn as Shingle Superintendent.

Flynn assists with seismic upgrading project In a place where the next earthquake could be the “big one”, there is a need for seismic upgrading on almost every school and government facility. The Workers Compensation Board of BC is no different. So when Luis Pauta and his crew took on this re-roof project, they also had to make sure it was updated to today’s code. They removed the existing IRMA roof system in cooperation with Dominion Construction, who provided the seismic upgrading. Great job boys! Victoria Branch Expands Into Slate & Copper Roofing!
Westpro Constructors Group Ltd. was contracted by the Province of BC to renovate this existing women’s prison into a youth detention facility. In turn, Westpro turned to Flynn to perform a 30,000-plus square foot re-roof, spread over three cell blocks and fourteen different roof areas.
Flynn Victoria has expanded its service offering, yet again. With the addition of Martin Davies (below-left) to our team, the branch will now able to take on slate and copper projects that they previously had to turn away. These products require experienced craftsman to fabricate and install them and Martin is just the man for the job. He recently completed work on a six-car garage at Stooks Farm in Central Saanich (below-right), as well as several out-buildings. The work on Stooks Farm included copper radius mansards and 4,000 square feet of slate tile. Not only did the project go well
Don Kristensen signed up his crew for the hot, sweaty job of removing this roof and replacing it with a new SBS membrane roof. There are hidden conduits running throughout this building structure, so mechanical attachment was handled with care—since puncturing an 800-foot long single piece conduit would mean total replacement! In addition, access was limited to exterior roof areas only, which made the handling of disposal materials and new materials distribution a challenge. Don and his crew worked hard to make this another successful project. from a production standpoint, but Martin has also been a great teacher to C.J. Howie, who learned a great deal about the installation of these products from Martin. Martin has an eye for custom detailing and it shows in his excellent work. Congratulations guys, on a job well done!
The Flynn Flash… Eight lives left! A kitten who inauspiciously began its life in a dumpster behind the Flynn Victoria office building, and who had severe health problems and not much chance of survival, was thankfully rescued recently by Victoria branch’s Laurie Bland. A friend of Laurie’s adopted the kitten and nursed it back to health. Now it’s her prized pet! And in honour of the cat’s beginnings, it was named the “Flynn Flash”!

Alberta Calgary Infrastructure Struggling to Keep Pace with Housing Developments As the Calgary housing market continues to boom and expand into the suburbs, many infrastructure projects are needed to keep pace with the demand. One of these projects was recently completed by our Calgary crews—the West Springs Co-op project—which had been ongoing for almost a year. The new 83,500 square foot retail complex outside of Calgary consists of five buildings, including a grocery store.
The crew that successfully completed this project was (above-left, L–R): Phil Peppin, Foreman Jim Corigan, Ryan Makin, Mark McArthur, and Pasquale Drouvin (absent: Barry Poulson). And while new construction gets all of the buzz, we also see real opportunity in the re-roofing business, as existing properties become more valuable. One such project recently completed was the Crowfoot Co-op project, where our crews laid more than 30,000 sq ft of SBS roofing. Lethbridge Life Sciences Addition Goes Ultra Modern Sharp angles and bevels highlight the modern architectural application of simple and economical corrugated cladding on the Life Sciences building addition in Lethbridge. Flynn’s architectural group worked closely with Cohos Evamy Architects in Calgary throughout the design stage to detail the wall construction and flashing details in order to create the end product.
The project included the supply and installation of metallic silver corrugated over plywood, subgirts, a peel-and-stick vapour retarder and rigid insulation. Two different profiles of hidden fastener cladding were also installed in a random pattern over insulation and subgirts. The architect was very pleased with the work and is designing a much larger project for the University of Lethbridge with similar detailing, together with Prodema wood panels, stainless steel mesh, and an area of zinc standing seam roofing.

Flynn Industrial: Flynn Secures Major Player in Oil ‘Landmark’ Sands Development Towers Contract Canadian Natural Resources Limited is a leader in oil sands development. Keeping pace with the demand for quality contractors who complete their work on-schedule, Flynn Industrial Ltd. was successful in procuring yet another contract with Bird Construction Ltd. This time it was to supply and install metal deck, SBS roofing, and the metal wall cladding on the Bitumen Maintenance Building located on the CNRL oil sands site near Fort McMurray, Alberta (top). In addition, Flynn Industrial erected the structural steel and installed the metal wall and roof cladding on the PSA building (left). Then, Flynn Industrial landed the Soot Cake Handling Building and ASU Building (below-left), at the Opti Long Lake project also near Fort McMurray, for client Atco Noise Management. Completion is scheduled for the fall of this year.
And the Hydrocracker Building (above-right), also at the Opti Long Lake Project (featured in the spring edition of the Flash), nears completion.
Flynn Canada Ltd. is very pleased to be part of the team chosen to build the Calgary Courts Centre. The Calgary Courts Centre will be a tremendous addition to the downtown core, boasting 1.1 million square feet of modern architectural design. The project features the development of three court towers. The west block development will consist of two atriumlinked towers with a 26-floor north tower and 22-floor south tower. Future development will see another tower built on the adjacent east block. An urban public park with considerable green space will be established on the existing Court of Queen’s Bench building site. The public space will be landscaped with trees, plants, benches, stone blocks, and a cascading waterfall. The existing Court of Appeal building will be retrofitted to meet historical restoration guidelines and will house Law Society Library as a part of the new Calgary Courts Centre. Steve Teal successfully negotiated this contract with Cana Construction of Calgary. Steve is the Project Manager with Monty Hill heading up the installation work. GWL Realty Advisors, Kasian Kennedy Architects, SNC Lavalin Profac and Borealis, are the other design team members that Flynn will work with in the creation of yet another Calgary landmark facility. To date, our crews have begun supplying and installing the complete Accumet composite exterior architectural panel façades as well as insulated metal cladding.

Your worker ‘Jason’, and I’m trying to find out his last name (Ed. note: Jason Swyers, Flynn Calgary), found a credit card by a service station in Sparwood last Wednesday or Thursday with the name B. Berdusco on it. Jason went out of his way to go through a local phone book and follow up so the credit card was returned to its owner. It just so happens that the B. Berdusco is a relative of my wife and she shared this story with me. I wanted to make sure that you knew about this quality employee as I pursue thanking him personally when they return to Coal Mountain Operations to work on our Dry roof. Thank you, Fred B. Green roof research expands into Alberta Flynn was recently hired to assist with the research of green roofs at Calgary Technologies on the campus of the University of Calgary. Two areas of existing roof have been “greened” to study different types of media, different depths, and plant life. Various areas were irrigated while some were not. Numerous different plant species were planted to determine what works best in the Calgary environment. The group photo includes Steve Teal (far-left, standing), the building manager and a group of Stantec Architects, including Kerry Ross—who is the driving force of the project.
Edmonton Branch Displays ‘Specialty Metal’ Skills This project, a “mammoth-sized” residential home overlooking the North Saskatchewan River on the south side of Edmonton (owned by the former owner of Money Mart), was recently the site of a joint venture which utilized the skills of both Edmonton’s Service and Metal Departments to make it a success. The house features a curved Flynn Accusteel metal roof system over a plywood substrate with a 2-ply SBS roof system on all flat roofs, curved roofs, and balconies.
These are the ‘Real’ Stories! If you are a parent, this story will especially hit home. Some of you may recall that back around 2000 Doug Flynn had his head shaved for a charitable cause. A very admirable gesture from a business leader. Well listen to what young Jordan and Logan Rennich, sons of Bill Rennich, Metals Manager—Edmonton, did recently. After having dealt with the loss

This successfully completed project, a commercial development for retail businesses located in Spruce Grove, Alberta, utilized a Flynn Accusteel metal roofing system over a plywood substrate. Flynn was also awarded the SBS roofing system on the job—making for a complete roofing package.

Along with eight school friends, they decided to help—and help they did! The group had their heads shaved and donated their hair to the Kids With Cancer Society, who make wigs for children who lose theirs during cancer treatment. In doing so, this group of little heroes raised $4,100. And in recognition for their efforts, Flynn Canada Ltd. proudly matched the funds raised. Prairies Flynn Selected for Prestigious RCMP Heritage Centre
For years, prospective mounties have passed through the RCMP headquarters in Regina. As a testament to the service they provide, a new RCMP Heritage Centre is being constructed by PCL Construction. Flynn Canada Ltd. is proud to be a part of this prestigious complex. By packaging roof and wall products, Flynn Regina was able to secure a multidisciplined contract. The scope of work includes the supply and installation of 76,000 square feet of metal deck, 58,500 square feet of EPDM roofing, 16,000 square feet of Accumet 2000 composite panels, as well as the 5,000 square feet of foam wall panels. Some of the men who installed the roofing are pictured above (L–R): Foreman Rob Johnston; Superintendent Al Samborski, Ed Kelly, Pete Kryzanowski, and Eric Poorman. At the time of publication, our metals crews were not yet on-site.
Ribbon Cutting Northern Ceremony for New Residential Winnipeg Trim Shop Complex Completed by Metals Divisions In the last issue of the Flash, we reported to you that the Winnipeg branch redevelopment project was underway. The first phase of the project, relocating the trim shop, is now complete. After years at 1500 Valour Road, the trim shop boys had good reason to celebrate with a ribbon cutting ceremony at their new facility. Trim shop staff participating in the event were (top, L–R): Roy Jamieson, Marcin Kalamaj, Magno Rongavilla, Garry Dueck, Glen Firth, Joel St. Vincent, Dennis Ranville and Chris Hope. Phase 2, which will include the new offices for the branch and Corporate Payroll staff, is scheduled for completion by mid-October. Don Belton, VicePresident—Metals, leads the charge.
The Gimli Shores Condominiums in Gimli, Manitoba (above), which faces Lake Winnipeg, will be seen for miles on the lake and is a standing tribute to the excellent workmanship of our Winnipeg-based crews.
Another Casino Project by Flynn
It seems as though Flynn has played a part on most—if not all—casinos built in Canada over the past few years. Dakota Dunes Casino, Whitecap First Nations, is the latest to hit the Flash. Flynn’s contract was for the supply and installation of more than 73,000 square foot of new Tremco inverted TRA roof system. The guys who got it done right are (above, L–R): Sylvestor Baron, Thomas Bear, Len Ginter, Leon Sparvier, Dwayne Saskamoose, Ron Blackbird, and Vernon Javier.

Annual “Old-Fashioned Family Picnic” a hit! On June 4th, the Saskatoon branch held their annual “Old-Fashioned Family Picnic”, with the branch’s boss Mike Herman (shown right) cooking up the burgers and dogs. The kids enjoyed cotton candy, games, and helium balloons. The first ever pie-eating contest (far-right) was held with Chad Wight from our Metal Division coming out as the winner—Chad apparently really loves cherry pie! Thanks to all the participants for being so entertaining and such good sports!!! It was some good clean Flynn Family Fun.

The CIBC branch at Normanview in Regina was built by general contractor Dominion Construction. Flynn was chosen to supply and install the 2300 square feet of Accumet 2000 architectural panels. It turned out to be a great looking project. In addition, Westridge Construction Ltd.—general contractor for the Affinity Credit Union—invited Flynn to enter into a contract to supply, fabricate, and install some 5,900 square feet of Accumet
the Winnipeg branch landed a significant contract from PCL Constructors at the Winnipeg Airport. The project consists of 36,100 square feet of floor and roof deck, 13,900 square feet of SBS modified bitumen insulated roofing, architectural mesh screen system as well as an area of metal roofing. The architectural mesh screen is a totally new product to Flynn and has yet to be installed. It will be featured in the fall issue of the Flash. I am sending you this note to express my satisfaction with your “team”. After my initial inquiry and telephone conversation with Mr. John Longpre regarding a roof repair, I then met with Mr. Alex Boterman. I was extremely pleased with the helpful and professional approach of each, and the timely and informative manner in which Alex provided me with his assistance, information/photos and the estimate. Once the repairs began, during two of perhaps the hottest days of the year, the crew—Shawn Hancott, Stanley Benett, and Luke Nasi, were pleasant and helpful. Each is a diligent and hard worker, answered all questions and always worked with a smile on their face. The whole process was seamless.
Novi is a suburb of Detroit, approximately ½ hour drive west of the border at Windsor, ON. Nicknamed the “Novi” project, the Providence Park Hospital construction project is underway. Because of the project’s large size and the wide range of products specified, CGI (Contract Glaziers Inc.), a subsidiary of Windsor Glass, contacted Flynn to submit a
proposal for the supply and installation of a variety of standard, and not-so-standard, products. Art Bundschuh and Don Delaney worked closely with CGI, submitted their tender, and were ultimately successful in securing this multi-million dollar contract. CGI then issued a contract to Flynn for the supply and installation of more than 65,000 square feet of “Box Beam” profile metal cladding, supplied by Corrugated Metals from Illinois, 43,000 square feet of Prodema wood panels and 7,200 square feet of ceramic tile wall panel on a EuroFOX substrate system from Cladding Corporation in Florida. Project startup is slated for September, with an estimated duration of seven months. General contractor is Barton Mallow White, a joint venture. The Project Manager is John Duff, with Nestor Pineda providing the drafting, and full-time on-site supervision being provided by John Bernard.

My compliments to your entire crew: John, Alex, Shawn, Stanley and Luke. It was a pleasure to deal with all. the casino is expanding and Flynn will play a major part. Eastern Construction, who is the general contractor for the addition, chose Flynn for the major insulated metal cladding and architectural panels contract. More than 110,000 square feet of AxiomPlus architectural plate wall, approximately 5,000 exterior panels will be supplied, fabricated and installed on the project. In addition, nearly 27,000 square feet of 7/8” corrugated cladding will be installed. Behind all of that will be insulation and 140,000 square feet of metal liner material. With a fast-track schedule and a start date in early November, Ben Aguilara, Adam Bell, and Jamie Atkinson were busy through the summer doing the drafting and writing bills of materials. The project duration is expected to be six months and is being project-managed by John Duff with the assistance of new Project Manager Mulham Kheriba.

Smiles Abound as Ahhh… Green Roof Opens the Island Life at MonctonCity Hall
New Condos Blend Well with Historic Downtown Halifax
The first ever green roof in the city of Moncton (above) was recently completed by Flynn’s Moncton branch. The green roof project is located on the 6th floor of the City Hall Building and is accessed from a large meeting room. Easy access and an excellent view of Main St. and the downtown area creates a pleasant environment for municipal employees and guests. The Leston Court project involved more than 12,000 square feet of Tradition 100 profile roof and wall cladding in Pacific Turquoise complete with flat liner panel, Z-bars and rigid insulation. The colour was chosen for its aged copper look, which our customer wanted so that the project would blend in with historic downtown Halifax. Foreman John Fleming, along with his crew members Alfie Clarke and Bruce Broderick, worked many long winter days installing the liner panel to close in this condo project in the heart of downtown Halifax. Pictured above, John and Alfie put the finishing touches on the rooftop of this project. Steve Pass was Flynn’s Project Manager.
Power Center Plaza in Charlottetown, PEI, is a new commercial/retail development complex, and Flynn was successfully chosen to install the roof. The contract included a ballasted .060mm EPDM membrane, 8” of EPS insulation and a Kraft vapour barrier. A “walk in the park” for this group of pro’s pictured above (L–R, front row): Aubrey Despres (aka Fungu), Jacques Jaillet, Jean Marc Allain.
