Unsere Reise nach Providence begann mit einer reibungslosen Anreise, und schon bald waren wir wieder dort, wo jeder Fliegenfischer gerne sein möchte: draußen auf den Flats, umgeben von endlosem Blau, Korallen, Sandflächen und der besonderen Natur dieses einzigartigen Atolls.
Das Wetter zeigte sich in dieser Woche leider sehr wechselhaft. Immer wieder hatten wir mit Wind, Wolken und eingeschränkter Sicht zu kämpfen, was die Fischerei auf den Flats natürlich deutlich anspruchsvoller machte. Gerade auf Providence ist gute Sicht oft entscheidend, um die Fische rechtzeitig zu sichten. Doch jedes Mal, wenn die Bedingungen kurz besser wurden und sich Fenster mit guter Sicht öffneten, zeigte das Atoll sofort, was in ihm steckt: Die Fischerei war dann auf Anhieb hervorragend.
Trotz der schwierigen Bedingungen war es insgesamt eine sehr gute Woche. Jeder aus der Gruppe konnte seine Fische fangen, und es gab viele schöne Momente, spannende Drills und unvergessliche Begegnungen auf den Flats. Besonders erfreulich waren der eine oder andere GTs über einem Meter, ebenso wie Flat Slams. Die Fischerei auf Triggerfische war in dieser Woche außergewöhnlich gut und es gab viele Möglichkeiten, bei denen Erfahrung, Geduld und Präzision gefragt waren.
Den größten GT der Woche fing Christoph mit einem beeindruckenden Fisch von 111 cm – ein großartiger Moment und sicher eines der Highlights dieser Reise. Insgesamt zeigte sich einmal mehr, wie wertvoll Erfahrung auf einem Ort wie Providence ist. Die gesamte Gruppe bestand aus sehr guten und erfahrenen Fliegenfischern, was sich auch in den Ergebnissen widerspiegelte.
Wie immer war die Organisation perfekt. Alles lief professionell, entspannt und zuverlässig ab. Auch das Essen war hervorragend und trug viel zur guten Stimmung an Bord bei. Die Gruppe harmonierte wunderbar, wir hatten viel Spaß miteinander, es wurde gelacht, erzählt und gefischt – genau so, wie man sich eine solche Reise wünscht.
Diese Woche hatte auch eine besondere Bedeutung: Es war das letzte Mal, dass Providence mit dem Katamaran befischt wurde. Ab 2027 wird die Maya Dugong als Mutterschiff zum Einsatz kommen. So sehr wir uns auf neue Möglichkeiten freuen dürfen, werden wir dem Katamaran wahrscheinlich alle ein wenig nachtrauern. Er war über viele Jahre ein vertrauter und besonderer Teil dieser Abenteuer.
Vielen Dank an euch alle, dass ich diese Reise und dieses Abenteuer mit euch erleben durfte. Providence hat uns wieder einmal gefordert, begeistert und reich beschenkt – mit Fischen, Erinnerungen, Freundschaft und Momenten, die bleiben.
Our trip to Providence started with smooth and trouble-free travel, and before long we found ourselves back in one of the most special places a fly fisherman can experience: out on the flats, surrounded by endless blue water, coral, sand, and the raw wilderness of this incredible atoll.
Unfortunately, the weather during the week was quite changeable. Wind, clouds, and limited visibility often made the fishing challenging. On a place like Providence, good visibility is crucial. Seeing the fish early, reading their movement, and making the right presentation at the right moment can make all the difference. But whenever the conditions improved and we had a window of better light and visibility, the atoll immediately showed its true potential. As soon as we could see properly, the fishing was excellent.
Despite the difficult conditions, it turned out to be a very good week overall. Everyone in the group caught fish, and there were many memorable moments, exciting fights, and beautiful encounters on the flats. We had several GTs over one meter, as well as some great flat slams. The triggerfish fishing was particularly strong this week and provided many technical and rewarding situations where experience, patience, and accuracy were essential.
The largest GT of the week was caught by Christoph, with an impressive fish measuring 111 cm – a fantastic achievement and certainly one of the highlights of the trip. Once again, Providence proved how important experience is on such a demanding fishery. Our group consisted entirely of skilled and experienced fly fishermen, and that was clearly reflected in the results.
As always, everything was perfectly organized. The operation ran smoothly, professionally, and in a very relaxed way. The food was also excellent and added a lot to the good atmosphere on board. The group got along extremely well, and we shared many laughs, stories, and great days on the water. It was exactly the kind of trip one hopes for.
This week was also special for another reason: it was the last time Providence was fished from the catamaran. From 2027 onwards, Providence will be operated with the Maya Dugong as the mothership. While we can look forward to new possibilities, I think all of us will miss the catamaran. For many years, it was a familiar and special part of these adventures.
Thank you to all of you for allowing me to share this journey and adventure with you. Providence challenged us once again, inspired us, and rewarded us with fish, memories, friendship, and moments that will stay with us for a long time.
