GREATER NEWS

A MINISTRY OF GEAT SUNDAY SCHOOL

How we Limit God's Power in our Lives!

There are several ways to limit God's power in our lives. Examples include Pride and SelfReliance, Fear and Anxiety, Unforgiveness and Bitterness, Doubt and Unbelief. Regardless of the cause, they all serve as a barrier preventing us from JESUS' ministry's full benefits. The Bible provides several examples where people's response (Pride, Doubt, Fear Unforgiveness) to God's love prevented them from fully experiencing God's Miracles and Blessings. This quarter's comments focus on Pride and Self-Reliance. When we trust in our abilities and resources more than God, we limit what God can do THROUGH US! Pride and Self-Reliance keep us from seeking God's HELP and GUIDANCE. There is very little space for God to work when we are full of PRIDE. The BIBLE instructs us to "humble ourselves under God's mighty hand so that HE may lift us at the appointed time (1 Peter 5:6). May The LORD HELP us to be all we can be in CHRIST JESUS. Amen!

Much Love in Jesus’ Name, Minister Waveney Arthur, Adult Superintendent

How to Write ‘The Letter’to Uncooperative Sibling Caregivers

“My three brothers make me furious,” said 60-year-old Lynn during a psychotherapy session. “I care for their mother, and they hardly ever call her or me. They are so wrapped up in their own lives. But what about us?”

Greater Recovery Ministry

The Greater Recovery Ministry is an outreach ministry that serves individuals spiritually who are fighting with the psychological, spiritual, and behavioral effects of addictions. Our Goal, through the Love of God, is to help individuals get complete deliverance from all types of addictions. Individuals will be encouraged and supported while in the recovery process. We know that Jesus has the power to set you free from alcohol, drugs, food, gambling, the internet, nicotine, co-dependency, shopping, etc.

The curriculum for the Greater Recovery Ministry is the manifested vision of our Senior Pastor, Bishop LaVelton J. Daniel. He desires to see “All Souls” receive freedom from the “World of Negative Addiction.” The Implementation of the curriculum consists of 12 Godly principles that will be discussed weekly in a support group setting by trained facilitators.

The curriculum for the youth participants will focus on drug prevention and education. If you, a family member, or a friend need support, we can schedule a day and time to meet that's convenient for you.

God’s Work Through Women and Youth

Unit 2: Young People of Faith

August 4, 2024: LESSON 10: A Faithful Servant in the Church; Acts 9:36-43 (Unit 1: Women of Faith)

Teacher: Sister Sandra Wyatt“This week's lesson concludes the teaching on women of faith with Tabitha, Hebrew name Dorcas. She is identified as a disciple of Jesus Christ, her love for the Lord was showed by her good works/deeds and charitable acts towards those in need. She was a seamstress and made warm coats and outer garments for those who needed them. She was a faithful and true disciple of Jesus Christ, and in her faithfulness, she served others. Tabitha died, and the other disciples of Christ sent word to Peter, hoping he would heal her. Peter took her by the hand and lifted her from her deathbed to a renewed life. Her healing was a miraculous event “and many believed in the Lord.”

August 11, 2024: LESSON 11: Young David Anointed King; 1 Samuel 16:1-4b, 6-13

Teacher: Sister Deborah Thomas - The rest of our Sunday school lessons, we study young people being called and used by God to lead and help His people. David was chosen by God to be the next king of Israel, the Bible tells us that David was a man after God’s own heart. Even when David made mistakes, he would repent and seek God’s forgiveness, he was a faithful leader. God is looking for faithful leaders today who will have a heart for Him and His mission on the earth. God uses people who will faithfully obey and lead others to Him. God does not look at the outward appearance, He looks at people’s heart. When we obey God, we will see His mighty power at work in our lives and in the life of our family/friends and community.

August 18, 2024: LESSON 12: A Servant Girl Points Naaman to God; 2 Kings 5:1-5, 9-15a

Teacher: Sister Carol Wade - The lesson this week we learn about a servant girl who God had in place to point Naaman, a gentile and leper to the man of God (Elisha), who would tell him how to be healed from his leprosy. The lesson aim: to show the circumstances of Namman’s condition and pride. To explain that pride gets in the way of God’s solutions for us. And to exhort students to adopt a humble attitude toward God as we seek answers from Him.

August 25, 2024: LESSON 13: Josiah Calls the People Back to God; Teacher: Minister Waveney Arthur - Our lesson this week shows us the powerful way God can use one person who submits to His will in the midst of disobedient people. The mention of God has been taken out of our pubic school and other places in our nation, we live in a secular society. Do you ever wonder where the downhill trend of discarding God from our society will end? How it has effected our society and our children and the next generations to come. Manasseh and his son Amon were evil kings, after Amon was assassinated Josiah became king when he was eight years old. He “did that which was right in the sight of the Lord.” Josiah brought about many reforms in the nation of Israel. When a nation ignores the laws of God, utter destruction is inevitable end. It is important that we have Godly leaders who live by the Word of God and do things God’s way. Even when we face oppositions we must stand firm on the Word of God.
