JANUARY 2025

GREATER NEWS A MINISTRY OF GEAT SUNDAY SCHOOL

WINTER QUARTER 2024-25 January & February 2025 Let’s welcome 2025 with Thanksgiving and praise to our Most High God and Savior, Jesus Christ. As we reflect on the many blessings from the Lord during our journey in 2024, it’s important to take a moment to exhale and appreciate the gifts we've received. The year 2025 may bring new challenges, so we should focus on reconnecting with what is truly important to us, all for the glory of God. The signs of the last days are all around us, and we must prepare ourselves for the soon coming of the Lord. As we move through 2025, let us continue to support and encourage one another, as instructed in the Word of God. “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do (1 Thessalonians 5:11).” I want to extend a special thanks to Bishop and First Lady Daniel for their support of the Christian/Sunday School department and Sister Sandra Wyatt and Sister Viola Kitchen for their tireless contributions behind the scenes of our Sunday School. To all of our amazing Sunday School teachers, a huge thank you! And to our local, national, and international Sunday School attendees, thank you for your participation. May the Lord continue to bless us and use us for His will and glory as we journey together through 2025, in Jesus' name. Amen!

Blessings in Jesus’ Name, Minister Waveney Arthur, Adult Superintendent, Greater Emanuel Apostolic Temple, Department of Christian Education

Praise the Lord Sunday Schoolers: Welcome to the Year of Our Lord 2025, a time of redemption and the opportunity to receive grace upon grace. In 2025, expect God’s abundant blessings and be grateful for the greater opportunities in your relationship with Him as He provides all you need in a life filled with hope, health, and happiness. Despite the tests and trials, we may face this year, remember to stay focused on what truly matters. God will guide you daily, and He has always provided for His children. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” Colossians 3:16-17. Greater Recovery Ministry The Greater Recovery Ministry is an outreach program dedicated to supporting individuals who are struggling with the psychological, spiritual, and behavioral effects of addiction. Our goal, through the love of God, is to help individuals achieve complete deliverance from various types of addictions. We provide encouragement and support throughout the recovery process, knowing that Jesus has the power to free you from addictions such as alcohol, drugs, food, gambling, the internet, nicotine, codependency, shopping, and more. The curriculum for the Greater Recovery Ministry is based on the vision of our Senior Pastor, Bishop LaVelton J. Daniel. He aims for "All Souls" to experience freedom from the "World of Negative Addiction." The program consists of 12 Godly principles that will be discussed weekly in a support group setting, facilitated by trained leaders. For our youth participants, the curriculum will focus on drug prevention and education. If you, a family member, or a friend, need support, we can arrange a convenient day and time to meet. Please direct all inquiries to InHouse Pastor Evangelist Melvina Pounds at melvinalbs@gmail.com.

December 2024 Love in Action Unit 1: Love of the Father December 1, 2024: Lesson 1: Comfort for God’s People: Isaiah 40:1-5, 25-26, 29-31: Teacher: Evangelist Mytrice Nesbitt: Isaiah was a prophet who lived approximately seven hundred years before Christ. During the reign of King Uzziah, Isaiah had a vision of the Lord seated upon His throne, which marked the beginning of his prophetic mission. The first half of the book of Isaiah (chapters 1-39) speaks of God’s impending judgment on Judah due to their sins. In contrast, the book's second half (chapters 40-66) delivers a message of comfort and hope. God promises to restore His people and to send His Servant, the Messiah, to atone for sin, particularly highlighted in chapter 53. God is both our comforter and creator. When we feel weary, He offers us renewed strength and comfort. We can place our complete confidence in Him. December 8, 2024; Lesson 2: God Sends His Servant to Suffer for Us: Isaiah 53:4-6, 10-12: Teacher: Minister Pam Jamison-Ruffin: In our lesson this week, we explore God's plan for redemption and salvation as prophesied in Isaiah chapter 53. Isaiah clearly states that a substitutionary death is how we are redeemed from sin. Jesus served as our substitute for sin, and through His wounds, death, and resurrection, we can attain healing and salvation. This gift of salvation is freely offered to all who believe by faith. This was God's plan from the very beginning. December 15, 2024: Lesson 3: God’s Plan is Affirmed: Luke 1:39-56; Teacher: Sister Kristin Gymiah: From the very beginning, God had a plan to redeem humanity from sin. This week's lesson focuses on that plan, specifically Isaiah 7:14, which states: “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign: Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Mary was the virgin chosen by God to bear His son, Jesus. This act demonstrated God's grace; He selected her because of her great faith, and she humbly and faithfully followed the Lord. Mary prioritized pleasing God over fearing what others might think or do to her. God confirmed His will and word to Mary when she visited her relative Elizabeth. We should all be willing to submit and obey God faithfully, just as Mary did. Review this week's lesson at the link: GREATER NEWS #89 GYIMAH - YouTube December 22, 2024: Lesson 4: God’s Messiah is Born: Matthew 1:18-25: Teacher: Minister Waveney Arthur: Mary was engaged to Joseph. In the Jewish world of Jesus’ time, there were three steps to marriage. The first step was engagement, which could happen when the bride and groom were very young and were often arranged by their parents. The second step was betrothal, which made the engagement official and binding. The final step was marriage, which took place after the wedding, typically one year after the betrothal. During the betrothal period, Mary was visited by an angel who informed her that she had been chosen to give birth to a son named Jesus. When she asked how this could be, since she was a virgin and had not been with a man, the angel explained that it would happen through the Holy Spirit. This week, our lesson focuses on Joseph, Mary's husband. The scripture describes him as a just man who did not want to make Mary a public example of disgrace. He considered the option of quietly dismissing her. While he was contemplating what to do, God sent an angel to Joseph in a dream. The angel reassured him that Mary had not betrayed him and that her child was sent by God. The angel instructed him, "Fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost." Joseph obeyed God's message and did not dismiss Mary. He waited to be with her as a husband until after she had given birth to her firstborn son, Jesus. – Review this week's lesson at the link: GREATER NEWS #90 WAVENEY YouTube December 29, 2024: Lesson 5: Salvation Prepared for All People: Luke 2:25-38: Teacher: Sister Sandra Wyatt: In our lesson this week, we learn about two events ordained by God. First, we meet a man named Simeon, a devoted and godly individual who had been told by God that he would not die until he saw the Messiah. The second person we encounter is Anna, a widow of many years who dedicated her life entirely to God after her husband's death. It was not mere chance or coincidence that these two individuals met Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus. This was a divine appointment; both Simeon and Anna were led by the Holy Spirit to be there at the right time and place. It was through faith, trust, and obedience to God's guidance that they witnessed a glimpse of our redemption to come: “A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel” (Luke 2:32). – Review this week’s lesson at the link: GREATER NEWS #91 - WYATT YouTube
