GREATER NEWS
A MINISTRY OF GEAT SUNDAY SCHOOL
WINTER QUARTER 2024-25
January & February 2025
Let’s welcome 2025 with Thanksgiving and praise to our Most High God and Savior, Jesus Christ. As we reflect on the many blessings from the Lord during our journey in 2024, it’s important to take a moment to exhale and appreciate the gifts we've received. The year 2025 may bring new challenges, so we should focus on reconnecting with what is truly important to us, all for the glory of God.
The signs of the last days are all around us, and we must prepare ourselves for the soon coming of the Lord.As we move through 2025, let us continue to support and encourage one another, as instructed in the Word of God.
“Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do (1 Thessalonians 5:11).”
I want to extend a special thanks to Bishop and First Lady Daniel for their support of the Christian/Sunday School department and Sister Sandra Wyatt and Sister Viola Kitchen for their tireless contributions behind the scenes of our Sunday School. A huge thank you to all of our amazing Sunday School teachers! And to our local, national, and international Sunday School attendees, thank you for your participation.
May the Lord continue to bless and use us for His will and glory as we journey together through 2025, in Jesus' name.Amen!
Blessings in Jesus’Name,
Minister Waveney Arthur, Adult Superintendent,
Greater EmanuelApostolic Temple, Department of Christian Education
Praise the Lord Sunday Schoolers:
Welcome to the Year of Our Lord 2025, a time of redemption and the opportunity to receive grace upon grace. In 2025, expect God’s abundant blessings and be grateful for the greater opportunities in your relationship with Him as He provides all you need in a life filled with hope, health, and happiness.
Despite the tests and trials, we may face this year, remember to stay focused on what truly matters. God will guide you daily, and He has always provided for His children.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” Colossians 3:16-17.
Greater Emanuel Sunday School invites you to join us every Sunday, either via Zoom or in person. Our in-person classes are held at Greater Emanuel Apostolic Temple, located at 1150 W. Galbraith Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, in the EJB Hall. We look forward to seeing you!

Greater Recovery Ministry
The Greater Recovery Ministry is an outreach program dedicated to supporting individuals struggling with the psychological, spiritual, and behavioral effects of addiction. Our goal, guided by the love of God, is to help individuals achieve complete deliverance from various types of addictions. We provide encouragement and support throughout the recovery process, believing that Jesus has the power to free you from addictions such as alcohol, drugs, food, gambling, the internet, nicotine, co-dependency, shopping, and more.
The curriculum for the Greater Recovery Ministry is based on the vision of our Senior Pastor, Bishop LaVelton J. Daniel, who seeks for "All Souls" to experience freedom from the "World of Negative Addiction." The program consists of 12 Godly principles that will be discussed weekly in a support group setting, facilitated by trained leaders.
For our youth participants, the curriculum focuses on drug prevention and education. We can schedule a convenient meeting if you or someone you know needs support. Please direct all inquiries to In-House Pastor Evangelist Melvina Pounds at melvinalbs@gmail.com.

Glaucoma Test
Are you at risk for Glaucoma? Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide. At first, glaucoma doesn’t usually have any symptoms. That’s why half of people with glaucoma don’t even know they have it. Anyone can get glaucoma, but some people are at higher risk. If one or more of the following is true, you may be at high risk for developing glaucoma:
• You have diabetes.
• You have a family history of glaucoma.
• You’re African American and 50 years or older.
• You’re Hispanic and 65 years or older.
Medicare covers a glaucoma screening - https://tinyurl.com/bk3vp9rj
The only way to find out if you have glaucoma is to get a glaucoma screening. Talk with your doctor to ensure you’re up to date on screenings. Medicare covers a glaucoma screening once every 12 months if you’re at high risk. Early treatment can often stop the damage and protect your eyes from serious vision loss. Learn more about glaucoma from the National Eye Institute.
Blessings,
Deaconess Melanie Moon

Love in Action
Unit 2: Acts of Love by Jesus
January 5, 2025: Lesson 6: Calling Sinners to Repentance: Mark 2:13-17: Teacher: Minister Maurice Henderson: This week’s lesson aims to teach us that God does not operate as we do. He calls people to the ministry whom we might never expect. Often, He selects individuals who may seem like the least likely candidates, even those we might consider the worst among us, to be His disciples. God calls ordinary people to undertake the most significant tasks and never overlooks anyone. An example of this is the call of Levi, also known as Matthew, who was a tax collector for Rome. The Jews despised tax collectors for cooperation with the occupying forces. When Jesus extended His invitation to Levi, he did not hesitate. He left his previous work behind to follow Jesus’s calling on his life. Have you left everything behind to follow the calling of Jesus in your life? Review this week’s lesson at the link: GREATER NEWS #92 HENDERSON
January 12, 2025; Lesson 7: Jesus Seeks Out Zacchaeus: Luke 19:1-10: Teacher: Evangelist Erma Kidd: Many believe acquiring material possessions will bring them joy and happiness. However, this week's lesson teaches us that true joy comes from having faith in Jesus and following Him. Zacchaeus had heard about Jesus and wanted to see Him in person the man who performed such miraculous works. Unfortunately, a large crowd surrounded Jesus, and being a short man, Zacchaeus was worried that he wouldn't be able to see Jesus, nor would Jesus be able to see him. Determined to catch a glimpse of Jesus, Zacchaeus ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree. His actions demonstrated how eager he was to see Jesus and showed that he would not let anything, or anyone prevent him from encountering Christ. What lengths are you willing to go to see and know Jesus for yourself and to become one of His disciples? Review this week’s lesson at the link: GREATER NEWS #94 KIDD
January 19, 2025: Lesson 8: Healing Ten Lepers: Luke 17:11-19: Teacher: Minister Waveney Arthur: This week's lesson reminds us to always express gratitude to the Lord. Interestingly, the more we have to be thankful for, the less we often take the time to show our appreciation. This can be one reason wealthy people may struggle to recognize their need for Jesus, as highlighted in Matthew 19:23-24. The Apostle Paul teaches us not to place our trust in riches but to understand that all blessings and good things come from the Lord (1 Timothy 6:17-18). Let us aspire not to be like the nine who failed to return and give thanks, but rather to follow the example of the Samaritan, who was the only one to turn back and express gratitude for his healing. Regardless of our circumstances, let’s strive to recognize and be thankful for everything we receive. “We should openly express thanks to God for what He has done.” (reference from the lesson). Review this week's lesson at the link: GREATER NEWS #95 WAVENEY
January 26, 2025: Lesson 9: Jesus Restores Peter to Service: John 21:15-25: Teacher: Elder Paul McGhee: Today, the term "Christian" is often used so broadly and generically that it can lose its real meaning; it seems that many people today label themselves as Christians. However, it may sometimes be necessary to use a more specific term, such as "Born-again Christian," to accurately describe what we mean by "Christian." In this week’s lesson, we see Jesus restoring Peter after he denied Him during His trial before the crucifixion, (Matthew 26:69-75). In John 21:19, Jesus exhorts Peter to "Follow me." This same command can also be found in Matthew 4:19, 8:22, 9:9, 16:24, and 19:21. We are all called to be "Followers of Christ," and as students of the Word of God, we must strive to understand it, be accurate in our interpretations, and be led by the Holy Spirit in applying it. Following Jesus means being completely and wholly His disciples. This involves studying His Word to mentally and spiritually equip for whatever lies ahead. It also requires listening for His voice and rejecting other voices that would draw us away from Him. – Review this week's lesson at the link: GREATER NEWS #96 MCGHEE
