To our dear friends of Florida Rep... Welcome back! As the lights come up on our 24th Season, we look forward to a bright future as we celebrate the magic of live theatre! We are extremely grateful to you, our loyal patrons and donors, who have stood by us during the turbulent times of the past year and a half. We thank our senior staff, board of directors, ensemble of artists and volunteers for their continuing hard work, never-ending optimism, and devotion. Because of our loyal supporters, we will emerge strong and ready to entertain, enrich, and delight Southwest Florida audiences. The absence of theatre has taught us how important and how vital the performing arts are to this community. Like many theatre companies across the country, we have produced virtual offerings: readings, filmed productions, discussions, our 2021 Gala, and even classes while our indoor stages were darkened. We uncovered new avenues of creativity and innovation by engaging audiences with exciting performances, under the stars, on the banks of the Caloosahatchee. But we realize that nothing can replace the electric experience of live theatre together in the Historic Arcade and ArtStage Studio Theatres. It’s been a long road since we closed our doors to the public in March 2020, but we are ready to lift the curtain and light the lights once again. Our 24th season is a new and vibrant celebration of theatre and of the people who give of themselves to make it happen. We are pleased to offer you stories about hope, human connection, and renewal. Our signature policy of presenting a variety of drama and fantasy remains, but this year we have carefully planned a season of plays and musicals that lift us up and offer an escape. We open with Let’s Fall in Love, a new cabaret-style show that transports us back in time with nostalgic music that defined a generation. We continue this fall with a spine-tingling ghost story—but The Woman in Black isn’t just a haunting tale, it’s a love-letter to actors and stagecraft that will keep you on the edge of your seat. West Side Story is a modern American musical masterpiece, combining the brightest stars of our Conservatory Program with professional artists and Ensemble Members to tell Tony and Maria’s story of star-crossed love in a fresh new staging. OUR 24th SEASON
We begin the new year with two uplifting stories about love, new beginnings, and friendship: a brand-new comedy Morning After Grace shows us it’s never too late to fall in love, and the Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, Driving Miss Daisy chronicles an unlikely decades-long friendship. Another new comedy, Into the Breeches, is a patriotic story of sisterhood and coming together in a crisis— when the men are away fighting World War II, the ladies of the local theatre troupe band together to prove “the show must go on!” The most exciting addition to the new season is a reimagined remounting of the theatre’s 2020 production of A Doll’s House, Part 2. We were a day away from opening when the pandemic closed our doors—and while many of you saw it virtually, this fresh new staging brings the razor-sharp sequel to Ibsen’s 1879 masterpiece to life in the ArtStage, where you’ll be in the middle of the action. We close our season with two pieces that offer a musical escape and a hopeful love story. Buddy is a rock ‘n’ roll sensation where audiences witness Buddy Holly’s meteoric rise to stardom and hear all his greatest hits along the way. Maytag Virgin is a brand-new romantic comedy and an old-fashioned romance that has the perfect message of hope, redemption, and renewal to close a season designed to celebrate human connection. Our over a year-long intermission has proved that theatre makers are industrious and that theatre lovers are devoted. It also taught us that true theatre isn’t on a small screen. When people come together to watch a live play, their heartbeats synchronize. A painting in a museum never changes, the actors in a film give the same performance at every viewing, and the words in a book always read in the same order, but a play is alive! No two performances are the same and our work is never finished until you experience it with us. We are so glad you’re back where we all belong. As always, we hope you enjoy the show as much as we enjoy performing it for you.

A LETTER FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Welcome Back! Welcome Back! Florida Rep’s Board of Directors welcomes you to our 24th season at Florida Repertory Theatre. To simply say that this past year was a tremendous challenge to the theatre would be a huge understatement. We survived this past year thanks to our loyal supporters, patrons, donors, and through the efforts of our excellent leadership team led by Greg Longenhagen and John Martin. The Pandemic forced us to shut down indoor productions, lay off staff and cut hours. However, with ingenuity, flexibility, and strong support we did manage to produce outdoor performances with our wonderful interns and our Education team. On stage, under the stars, next to the river…truly magical! Season 24 brings a reboot of last year’s cancelled productions with some small changes. The Pandemic is still with us, but we will adhere to strict safety protocols in order to keep our staff, actors, and patrons safe. It is great to be back in business. In addition to our work on stage as a regional theatre company, Florida Rep has an active and vital Education and Outreach arm that reaches more than 45,000 children and young adults annually - and that number continues to grow. It is comprised of the Theatre for Young Audiences and Lunchbox Theatre, Camp Florida Rep, and the popular, audition-only Conservatory Program, classes for youth and adults, and more. I encourage all of you to attend one of these wonderful productions where you will see the stars of tomorrow. Florida Rep’s Board of Directors is responsible for the financial health of the theatre, and we work hard all year to raise the funds to keep these vital community programs going. We also strive to keep your ticket prices as reasonable as possible, all the while bringing you the highest quality theatre in Southwest Florida. Each year we continue to validate the Wall Street Journal’s acclaimed drama critic and award-winning author, Terry Teachout, when he reported that Florida Repertory Theatre is “One of America’s Top Repertory Companies!” Your donations as Patrons support more than one third of our budget and are critical to our success. Help us continue to provide the best actors, the best scripts, and the most fun shows in Southwest Florida. A LETTER FROM YOUR MAYOR Dear Florida Repertory Theatre Patrons, Good theater brings entertainment to its audience. Great community theater brings young and old together for a common goal: to put on an outstanding performance that promotes creativity and stirs our emotions, moving us to laughter and tears. For more than two decades, the City of Palms has been blessed with award-winning regional theater being acted out in the historic Arcade Theatre in beautiful downtown Fort Myers. Florida Rep is undoubtedly one of Southwest Florida’s most important cultural and educational institutions. Both Gulfshore Life Magazine and Florida Weekly have on numerous occasions named the Rep “Best Performing Arts Group,” and the theatre has been featured in the New York Times and covered in American Theatre Magazine. It was encouraging to watch Florida Rep pivot to a virtual and outdoor season in 2020-2021. I am thrilled that in-person professional theater will be returning to the River District. Thank you to Artistic Director Greg Longenhagen, Executive Director John Martin, and their dedicated staff and actors for keeping theater alive in Southwest Florida. For nearly a quarter-century, The Florida Repertory Theatre has entertained Southwest Florida with critically acclaimed comedies, dramas, and musicals from its downtown Fort Myers home in the Historic Arcade Theatre. Year after year, the Florida Rep’s talented performers and dynamic team prove why this Fort Myers mainstay has earned its reputation as one of Lee County’s most important cultural institutions. EVAN TYRONE MARTIN (Performer & Co-Creator) is a Chicago-based actor whose recent credits include Jim Bishop in Roundabout Theatre Company’s (NYC) digital reading of Spunk by Zora Neale Hurston, and directed by Lilli-Anne Brown. Other credits include Ensemble in The Black Clown (Lincoln Center 2019 MMF / A.R.T. – Boston), Horton in Seussical (Marriott TYA), Hud in Hair (Mercury Theatre), Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar (Paramount Theatre, BTAA Nomination), I Left My Heart: A Salute to…Tony Bennett (Mercury Theatre, Jeff Nomination), Curtis Taylor, Jr. in Dreamgirls (Porchlight Theatre, BTAA Nomination), Raymond in Far From Heaven (Porchlight, Jeff Nomination), King Triton in The Little Mermaid (Paramount Theatre) and (Arkansas Rep), Jake in Side Show (Porchlight, Jeff Nomination), Collins in Rent (Paramount Theatre), Harpo in The Color Purple (Mercury Theatre). His over 30 appearances with the company include Cabaret, How the Other Half Loves, The Dingdong, Twelve Angry Men, Around the World in 80 Days, Clybourne Park, Miracle on South Division Street, 2014’s nationally acclaimed production of Arsenic and Old Lace, and six years in David Sedaris’ one-man-show, The Santaland Diaries. Jason has overseen Florida Rep’s PlayLab Festival of New Works since its 2014 inception, and under his direction it’s produced over thirty new play readings, commissions, and World Premiere productions of Split in Three by Daryl Lisa Fazio, Doublewide by Stephen Spotswood, George Washington’s Teeth by Mark St. Germain, Alabaster by Audrey Cefaly, and more. Jason’s work with other theatres as an actor and director includes Actors’ Playhouse (Miami), Riverside Theatre (Vero Beach), Theatre by the Sea & Ocean State Theatre Company (Rhode Island), and guest appearances with the New York Philharmonic’s Young People’s Concert Series at Lincoln Center. RACHEL BERKHOUSE (Stage Manager) is excited to be returning to Florida Rep for a second season after completing a Stage Management internship with the company in 2019-2020. Previous credits at Florida Rep include serving as Assistant Stage Manager on Always...Patsy Cline, Barefoot in the Park, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, and A Doll’s House, Part 2. Outside of Florida, Rachel’s prior credits include serving as the resident Production Stage Manager at University of Dallas, where she earned her BA in Drama, and working at Fort Worth’s Trinity Shakespeare Festival as Assistant Stage Manager on Richard III, Measure for Measure and Twelfth Night. Rachel is delighted to be back and is looking forward to the season ahead! ISIAH BOSTIC (Understudy) is a singer, actor, dancer from Hamden, CT. He received his BFA in Musical Theatre from Western Connecticut State University in 2020 and is thrilled to make his Florida Rep debut! Isiah has had the opportunity to share his love of the arts around the country, and has honed his craft with the help of many industry professionals such as Tim Howard, John Hickok, Mary-Ann Lamb, Elizabeth Parkinson, Scott Wise, Bob Cline, Megan Osterhaus, Anthony Cochrane, Michael Bartoli, and Deborah Lifton. His professional credits include The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Mitch Mahoney) with Quisisana Resort, Much Ado About Nothing (Antonio) with Ives Concert Park, In the Heights (Ensemble) with Playhouse on Park, South Pacific (Featured Sailor) with New Paradigm Theater, and Porgy and Bess (Ensemble) with South Florida Symphony Orchestra. MATTHEW KOLLER (Drummer) is thrilled to be returning to Florida Rep after appearing as the drummer in last season’s Broadway’s Best! He has also played for Tenderly: The Rosemary Clooney Musical, Always…Patsy Cline, and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder. Matt is the founder and conductor of the City of Palms Youth Choir in Fort Myers. Choirs under his direction have performed several masterworks, world premieres, and have appeared in Carnegie Hall. He has conducted at Florida Gulf Coast University Opera, Gulfshore Opera, and teaches private voice lessons. His students have appeared in lead roles on Broadway, national tours, television, and film. He is a graduate of Westminster Choir College and is a member of The Same Stream Choir in Philadelphia.
WHO’S WHO STEPHANIE LAYTON (Pianist as of Nov 9) is thrilled to be making her Florida Rep debut on the keys after moonlighting as their NYC audition accompanist for a number of years. An Olympia, WA native, Steph currently splits her time between the west and east coasts working as both a musician and graphic designer. In NYC she has served as audition accompanist for countless Broadway, national tour, and regional productions, and spent a number of years as a vocal coach for Pace University’s prestigious musical theatre program. She also fronts jazz event band Eden Lane, where she channels Julie London at high end weddings and corporate events for clients like Macallan Scotch, Etsy, and Charlotte Tilbury Beauty. On the design front, she creates record packaging for Ghostlight Records and Warner Music Group in addition to freelancing with a myriad of small businesses, theatres, and musicians. MAULDEN***† (Scenic & Venue Designer) is delighted to be working with Florida Repertory Theatre again after having designed An Inspector Calls in 2019. He has served since 1985 as the Resident Scene Designer at Flat Rock Playhouse, the State Theatre of North Carolina where he also serves as Apprentice Administrator. He has headed design programs at the University of Florida and the University of South Carolina, where he also was Departmental Director of Graduate Studies. Maulden, a scene designer since 1970, has designed in other university, community, and regional theatres as well as in New York. In addition to a long list of theatre classics, he considers himself privileged to have designed many premiere productions of straight plays, musicals, and operas. He received his MFA in Design from UNC-Greensboro in 1977 and is a member of USA, NY Local #829. PERRY ORFANELLA (Bassist) is a composer/ actor/bassist who’s been active on the contemporary music scene for nearly 40 years. During that time, his performances have taken him from the jazz club to the Broadway
theater; from the classical stage to the sports arena; from the church sanctuary to the theme park. He has accompanied celebrities such as Don Rickles, Joan Rivers, Rosemary Clooney, and Olivia Newton-John; shared the stage with Broadway legends Bernadette Peters, Mandy Patinkin, Patti LuPone, and Idina Menzel; worked with jazz luminaries Jackie McLean, Stanley Turrentine, Eric Darius, Doc Severinson, and Lionel Hampton; performed at Disney World, Universal Studios, Busch Gardens, appeared in concert with more than a dozen professional symphony orchestras and shared his experiences as an educator at private and public schools, community colleges and state universities. His compositions and arrangements have been premiered and featured at numerous venues throughout the United States and he has recently been seen acting in several regional theater productions. ANTHONY TONEY (Costume Designer) is ecstatic to officially join the Florida Rep staff this season as wardrobe supervisor. He hails from Detroit, Michigan where he started his career in costume and fashion design. Now, with several credits under his belt, Toney is looking forward to growing with Florida Rep, returning to the stage after a brief stint, and collaborating with amazing and talented artists. Theater credits include The African Company Presents: Richard III off-Broadway, The Mountaintop, Godspell and Into The Woods. He has also had the opportunity to design two fashion collections that showed in Detroit. Toney is brimming with anticipation for what this season has in store. JOEL ZISHUK (Lighting Designer) is a recent graduate from the University of Central Florida with a BFA in Theater Design and Technology. After working and studying in Orlando for the past four years, Joel is excited to join the Florida Rep staff as the Master Electrician for this season. His past work with the Florida Rep includes Bulletproof Backback (Assisant Lighting Designer), CLUE: The Stay at Home Version (Graphic Designer) and the Education Department’s 2021 Summer Intensives (Lighting and Projection Designer).
