WHO’S WHO
MONIQUE CALDWELL (Director) is excited to be back, coming off the heels of Fame, to direct another one of her favorite nostalgic shows - Little Shop of Horrors - which is also a 1980s movie musical. Monique is a performer, arts advocate, director, and acting coach from the Washington Metropolitan area. She is also a licensed theatre educator with a BFA in Musical Theatre from Howard University and a MA in Theatre Education from Catholic University. Monique has worked with children and youth in the performing arts for over 20 years. Some of her directing credits include A Wrinkle in Time (online), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Wiz, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Legally Blonde Jr. , Twelve Angry Men, Once on this Island Jr., Gotta Have Glee, The Odd Couple, 15 Reasons Not to Be in a Play, High School Musical and Anne of Green Gables. Monique would like to dedicate this performance to her Heavenly Father, her mom, Alice Caldwell, for being her biggest cheerleader, and to her friends and family back home!
EMILY TURTLE (Music Director) is excited to be Musical Director for her second Florida Rep Education Conservatory Production, Little Shop of Horrors ! Emily is a professional actress, vocalist, musical director, and teaching artist who joined the Florida Repertory Theatre staff as Assistant Education Director in August of 2022. Before moving to Florida, Emily obtained her BFA in Theatre Performance and in Theatre Management from the University of Rhode Island, subsequently performing and musical directing professionally throughout New England. Some recent credits include The Last Five Years (Upcoming, Fort Myers Theatre, Cathy Hiatt), It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play (The Gamm Theatre, Zuzu/Radio Announcer/Music Director), Assassins (The Gamm Theatre,
Ensemble/Associate Music Director), The Magic Flute (Encore Opera Company, Queen Of The Night), The Rocky Horror Show (The University of Rhode Island, Music Director), and Carrie the Musical (Academy Players, Music Director). Emily is very grateful for all of the love and support from her husband Steven, and her family and friends.
WHITNEY GRACE (Choreographer) is a local singer, dancer, actress, and business owner. She performs her one-woman shows all over Florida and has performed in musical productions at esteemed venues like Palm Beach Dramaworks, the Maltz Jupiter Theater, Gablestage, The Wick Theatre, TheatreZone, and many others. Whitney graduated from PBAU summa cum laude with an Elementary Education degree. She owns and operates Growing With Grace Studios; a performing arts school nestled in Arcadia, FL. BEN NABINGER (Costume Designer) is thrilled to be joining Florida Rep for Little Shop of Horrors. He earned his BA in Theatre Studies at University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and his MFA in Costume Design at UCLA. Some previous credits include Pericles (UCLA TFT), Matilda the Musical (Lexington Children’s Theater), and Lost in Yonkers (The Naples Players).
PAUL KWOK (Lighting Designer) is excited to design for Florida Repertory Theatre for the first time. Paul has been working in lighting for nearly a decade—both as a designer and electrician. He loves the challenge of creating something new and unique for each show using similar tools, and the wonder that it creates when done well. When he’s not at the theatre, Paul enjoys reading, dancing, and hanging out with his BFFs.

NICHOLAS LEASE (Scenic Designer) is happy to return to Florida Rep with his first Scenic Design on the MainStage. Nick is an Alumni of Florida Rep’s Internship program and was a scenic painter from 2019 through the beginning of 2021. Nick holds a BFA in Theatre Arts from East Carolina University. He currently resides in Miami, FL where he works as a freelance artist and designer.
KATIE LOWE (Sound Designer) is happy to return to Florida Rep for Season 26 in the role of Assistant Production Manager. MARISSA COUNCILL (Stage Manager) is thrilled to join Florida Repertory Theatre for its 26 th season! Marissa is a recent graduate of The University of Alabama (Roll Tide) where she was the first student to receive a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design and Technical Theatre with a focus in Stage Management. Select previous credits include Peter/Wendy & If Only the Lonely Were Home (Interlochen Arts Camp), Murder Ballad, The Imaginary Invalid, Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, & Spring Awakening. (UA Theatre and Dance). Marissa thanks her Mom and siblings, Sydney and Zachary, for their constant support of her dreams; and the incredible intern class of Season 26 for already making this the best experience yet!
CATALINA RICE (Asst. Stage Manager) just graduated from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) with a B.S. in Theatre. She is ecstatic to be making her professional debut at Florida Rep as a stage management intern working with all of these incredible people. Recently, she stage managed MTSU’s Fall Dance Concert and Sense and Sensibility . Most recently, she assistant stage managed MTSU’s production of Cabaret . She also enjoys being a scenic charge artist where she has picked up everything she knows from her older brother. She would like to thank her mom for being the best role model and helping her through this transition. She also would like to thank her brothers for being supportive and teaching her so much. Lastly, she would like to thank everyone at Florida Rep for being so welcoming and wonderful. And remember don’t feed the plants!

HOWARD ASHMAN (Book & Lyrics)
is best known as a pivotal creative mind behind the renaissance of Disney animation and his work on The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast (which is dedicated to, “Our friend, Howard Ashman, who gave a Mermaid her voice and a Beast his soul...”) Ashman’s first love was theater. Ashman was a founder of off off Broadway’s renowned WPA Theater, where he conceived, wrote and directed God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater, as well as the classic musical, Little Shop of Horrors (both music by Alan Menken). In 1986, he wrote and directed the Broadway musical Smile (music by Marvin Hamlisch). Lamented as a lost treasure of the 1980’s theater scene, Smile remains popular on High School and College campuses throughout the country. Howard Ashman died in 1991 from complications of AIDS. ALAN MENKIN (Music) and his unique voice as composer, a lyricist, and a musical theater dramatist has captured the imaginations of audiences for over 35 years. His stage musicals include God Bless You Mr. Rosewater, Patch Patch Patch, Atina: Evil Queen of the Galaxy, Real Life Funnies, Little Shop of Horrors, The Dream on Royal Street, Kicks, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, Beauty and the Beast, A Christmas Carol, Weird Romance, King David, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Little Mermaid, Sister Act, Leap of Faith, and Newsies. He has also contributed to such revues as Personals, Diamonds, and On the Record His film musicals include Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Aladdin (1992 and the 2019 live-action re -
make), Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Home on the Range, Enchanted, and Tangled His dramatic underscores for films include Life With Mikey, Noel, The Shaggy Dog, and Mirror Mirror. He has contributed songs to such films as Rocky V, Home Alone 2 - Lost in New York, Life With Mikey, and Captain America - The First Avenger Menkin won the 2012 Tony and Drama Desk Awards for his score to Newsies . He currently has more Academy Awards than any other living individual, including four for Best Score. He has earned 11 Grammy Awards, 7 Golden Globes, London’s Evening Standard Award, the Olivier Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award, and the Drama Desk Award. This 4-week (3-hour) workshop is a fun and creative introduction to the basics of acting. The class theme is inspired by the storybook, “The Araboolies of Liberty Street,” by Sam Swope. During the workshop, the students will read the book, develop a script to retell the story and perform for families and friends as the culminating activity.
