FLORIDA WEEKLY
WEEK OF APRIL 13-19, 2022 B3 Preview party for FMFF to take place at Edison and Ford Winter Estates

In a preview party that will reveal the lineup for the 2022 Fort Myers Film Festival, slated to take place in and around town May 18-22, the Edison and Ford Winter estates will screen films on the lawn in anticipation of the grand event at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 22.
Several short films will be shown on the historic Henry Ford lawn along the Caloosahatchee River for an unforgettable evening. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Founder and director of the festival Eric Raddatz will speak and introduce some of the stars who will be on hand for the upcoming festival, with the festival’s program cover and full programming announced.
The following films to be screened at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates are:
“Nursery Favorites,” 1913
In the era of silent films, Thomas Edison and his staff began experimenting with a device to synchronize sound and moving pictures: the kinetophone. This compilation of nursery rhymes is a fascinating moment in the history of “talkies.”
“The Koreshans: Legends and Legacies of Estero’s Urban Pioneers,” 2022
Visitors will learn a lot about the Koreshans in a film that presents a series of re-enactments, 3D animations and interviews with contemporary scholars by Ilene Safron of Main Sail Video Productions. The Koreshans brought culture and industry to Southwest Florida. They had one of the first symphony orchestras in the state and owned and operated nearly 30 businesses, including a machine shop, general store, bakery, post office and school. The film also explains the connection between the Edisons, Fords and the Koreshan settlement.
“Fort Myers Film Festival: Celebrating 12 years of film,” 2022
This film will showcase the event’s 12-year history and impact on Southwest Florida. It was produced and directed by Eric Raddatz and Ilene Safron. It will feature a preview of a film currently in the internal spotlight, “Calendar Girls,” as well as a look back at highlights that brought films to the town Mr. Edison called home many years ago.
The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22, under the stars. The Edison and Ford Winter estates is located at 2350 McGregor Blvd. Tickets are $10 for Edison Ford members; $15 for non-members (for all three films). To purchase tickets and for more information, head to www.EdisonFord.org or purchase at the door.
