ON THE COVER: Boats rafted up at Rose Island near Nassau on the Bahamas Poker Run.

Our beautiful FPC Girls at the Emerald Coast Boat Week 2025.

It’s an exciting time of the year in Florida as we head into the Fall season and say goodbye to the harsh humidity, torrential rains, and the dark shadow of “hurricane season.” In South Florida, we celebrate the fall season with the launch of the annual Fort Lauderdale Int’l Boat Show (FLIBS) and just on its heels, the FPC 33rd Annual Key West Powerboat Week! As I sit down to draft this edition of my Letter From the President, I’ll stick to the usual format of discussing the past, the present and the future, as it relates to Florida Powerboat Club. So let’s get right to it!

Relating to the past, let’s go back over the last few months as we recap an exciting summer 2025, all of which is well-documented in this issue of PiP Magazine! After our spring event in Orange Beach, we launched the 34th Bahamas Poker Run, which took our club members further than ever before to Harbour Island, which lies just fifty miles northeast of Nassau, near Eleuthera. This destination was a big hit, and we loved the format so well that we later refined the agenda for the first-ever Nor-Tech Owners Bahamas Run staged in August. We went one step further by adding Hopetown in the Abacos as the final destination, and ultimately set a new record, logging well over nine hundred miles over this 10-day format! Yes that seems long for most, but not when you’re participating! With the reliability of our Nor-Tech center consoles powered by Mercury

Racing, we had a successful adventure, and we’ve already begun plans for 2026!

Another summer highlight was returning to the FPC Summer Tour agenda, which took us to at least five major events around the country, from June through September! We had so much fun visiting these other venues and hanging out with our FPC members, and we thank everyone for boat rides and for rolling out the welcome mat everywhere we journeyed! Capping off the summer season, FPC returned to Destin for the Emerald Coast Boat Week event, which took on some organizational changes and came out on top, with great weather and eighty registered teams!

Now, addressing the present, let’s begin by welcoming FPC members and powerboaters to the 66th Fort Lauderdale Boat Show and the Key West Powerboat Week event the following week! At both events, our FPC marine trade partners will be displaying their latest new models, and they are breathtaking! It’s exciting to see how our performance marine industry has continually evolved around the world of poker runs, and this only punctuates the importance of the role FPC and other event organizers have played over the years, in creating a playground and a lifestyle, that we have all come to love!

Stu & Jackie Jones

So, this sets up my projections about the future of Florida Powerboat Club, and quite possibly, the sport as we know it. To maintain the forward momentum of our sport, it is paramount that members of the marine trade community as well as the performance boaters across the nation, understand that organizational changes MUST be made, to adapt to the safety challenges and a legal landscape, that are constantly threatening the viable business model that keeps FPC’s doors open. If an organization that is staging boating events for thirty five years reaches an impassable roadblock due to liability and risk; If insurance companies stop paying personal injury claims or exit from the marine industry; and if we as organizers can not get boat owners to wear PFD’s and just SLOW-DOWN, I can assure everyone, the future of this organization, is bleak at best. The time is now to get this sport on the right track and keep it there!

My final request, as we load up the boats with friends and loved ones to head for Key West, I ask you to STOP. Before turning the keys, turn off the stereo, close your eyes and remember Stephanie Rodriguez, a beautiful young

lady who died exactly one year ago, because she got on a boat with the wrong person at the helm. A person who chose NOT to follow the guidelines that we have been messaging loudly, clearly, and prominently for decades. Please Don’t be that guy. Be safe, be smart, be aware, be sober- And, if you cannot manage that program…..JUST STAY HOME!

High Seas To Paradise!

While the summer climate generally favors Florida boaters venturing across the gulfstream to the Bahamas, the June winds dealt some lumpy and challenging seas to FPC members, making their final destination in paradise seem just a little more special!

For over three decades, every summer boating season for members of the Florida Powerboat Club begins with an exciting escape to the Bahamas, and the 2025 edition engaged seventeen powerboat entries and seventy-five participants on a seven-day adventure in paradise. As always, the roster featured a wide range of high-performance center console boats, ranging from a 32-foot twin-engine Sunsation CCX model to a brand-new Deep Impact 499, well-equipped with a new set of six Mercury Racing 500R outboards. With Deep Impact Custom Boats owners Mark & Eileen Fischer at the helm, the FPC team rode along, making the #2 hull of the new model the official pace boat for the event. Most attendees enjoyed their pre-departure evening at the newly reopened Pier 66 Resort & Marina in Fort Lauderdale, and by Wednesday at 7AM the fleet took launch for the 60mile turbulent ride across the choppy gulf stream, with the FPC photo chopper in pursuit.

The total ride dock-to-dock averaged about two hours, as teams landed at Bimini Big Game Club restaurant, where

captains and crews cleared customs and later enjoyed a late morning breakfast at the popular Big Game restaurant.

With “Seize the Day” as the event’s unofficial motto, the day one cruising agenda continued with visiting local attractions including the Sapona concrete shipwreck and Honeymoon Harbour for a stingray feeding encounter. Many teams were cruising the Bahamas for their very first time, so these attractions provided an amazing first-time adventure, especially learning how to hand-feed dozens of stingrays in a safe setting, along the beaches of Gun Cay.

After a two-night stay at Bimini Bay Marina and Resorts World Bimini hotel & casino located on North Bimini, the agenda took the fleet further eastbound on a 140-mile trek, with a crossing over the Bahama Bank to Atlantis at Paradise Island. It was unseasonal for rough sea conditions to dominate this leg of the run, especially in the mid-summer months.

Unfortunately for the last fifty miles it slowed many of the smaller boats to a snail’s pace, with some teams managing only a 20-mph pace for several miles in the choppy head seas.

Nonetheless, the fearless captains forged on and by late in the afternoon, most of the boats had settled in at Atlantis Marina. On a footnote from the FPC organizers, we feel it is important to punctuate the fact that Chub Cay Resort & Marina, which has been a traditional fuel and lunch stopover for years in the Berry Islands, is 100% private now, and under NO circumstances are outsiders welcome to visit. Only a VHF radio call will generate a fueling opportunity, but non-member vessels are not welcome to stay beyond the fueling timeline.

The short two-night visit to Atlantis afforded one local cruising day in the Nassau area, and most of the registered teams joined in for a quick Saturday cruise to south shoreline of New Providence, where the new Legendary Marina at Bluewater Cay was under construction. Company representatives provided a red-carpet welcome, as the boat owners considered the advantages of having their vessels

domiciled in the Bahamas at this new modern facility, which is slated for late 2025 completion. The local cruising agenda continued to nearby Rose Island, where the teams enjoyed a beach rendezvous that included an entertaining pig show and lunch at Sand Dollar Beach Resort.

The final round of cruising welcomed the assistance from Captain Jordan Lampkin from Nassau, who led the group to its final destination, Valentines Resort & Marina at Harbour Island. Taking a detour through Spanish Wells, the group enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Wreckers Bar, then continued to Harbour Island by rounding the tip of Gun Point on the island of Eleuthera and navigating the tricky channels of Devil’s Backbone Reef. Indeed, this was tricky final leg of the run that required a structured group setting, with designated lead boat and a single file formation, ensuring a safe and enjoyable cruise to this remote island destination.(Continuedpage10)

Photos by: Tyler Jones; Max Jones; Stu Jones

The early morning departure through Port Everglades most often presents some level of excitement, as the teams were forced to tighten up the pack, as they passed a massive container ship.

Organizers and attendees alike were extremely pleased with the new extended event agenda, which explored another fifty miles beyond Nassau to Valentine's Resort & Marina at Harbour Island, a destination which offered ample docking for the group, excellent lodging options and plenty of attractions on this very historic island. At the very least, it proved that travelling just a little further and extending this annual event by two days gave attendees

the ultimate cruising adventure! With the first night in Fort Lauderdale for event preparation, and two nights at each of the three island destinations, the trip itinerary totaled eight-days, seven nights, and logged over seven hundred miles with the added daytrips. By the end of the journey, most agreed that if you’re going to plan a big trip to the Bahamas, you may as well go Big and make it an adventure of a lifetime!

Honeymoon Harbour was the first order of business, soon after the group's arrival in Bimini. The small beach lies along the shoreline of Gun Cay, less than ten miles south of Bimini, making it an easy destination for the stingray feeding experience, a popular attraction for visiting boaters.

At 55 miles northeast of Nassau, Valentine's Resort & Marina on Harbour Island became the final destination for the Bahamas Poker Run, for its very first time. The full service resort offered luxurious lodging on site, and with golf cart rentals, teams were able to cruise the scenic island to enjoy many sites, including the famous pink sand beaches.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER!

As if mother nature oversaw the event planning herself, this passionate species of loyal Nor-Tech owners bonded like a flock of migrating birds, exploring over 900 miles of boating paradise over a 10-day whirlwind tour!

It may be surprising to many members of the performance boating community to see the designation as the First Annual Nor-tech Owners Run to the Bahamas, considering both Florida Powerboat Club and Cape Coral-based Nor-tech have partnered on so many projects over their thirty-plus year history. But, like many manufacturers engaged in the highperformance boating arena, being successful in the custom boat building industry, means staying focused on superior production, exciting designs, relentless quality control, and evolution of new models over the years, and that is precisely what Nor-Tech’s owners and the factory production team have been doing for over three decades. Naturally, during that period that dates back to the 1990’s, hundreds of Nor-Tech owners have relied on Florida Powerboat Club as an outlet for boating adventures throughout Florida and offshore to the Bahamas. And more recently, with the new King of Clubs NorTech 390 Sport model in the command of FPC president Stu Jones since late 2024, the timing for the first annual Bahamas Owners adventure could not have been better! What unfolded was one of the most exciting island-hopping adventures ever staged by FPC and enjoyed by eighteen Nor-Tech crews with a roster of attendees from around the globe!

In some ways, the early August event format was a rinseand-repeat when compared to FPC’s Bahamas Poker Run staged in June, just two months earlier. However, modifications were made based on the earlier experiences, with the same departure venue at Pier 66 in Fort Lauderdale, plus an added lunch rendezvous on Wednesday, allowing the visiting teams the chance for a short shake-down run before the gulf stream crossing! The other changes shortened the Bimini stopover to one-night, kept the Atlantis visit to two nights, and extended the Harbour Island visit to a three-night stay, with daily fun run activities. While the original agenda had not considered an extended visit to Hopetown in the Abacos, it was during the June Bahamas event that the FPC president considered the benefits of finding just two more days, to route the group through the Northern Bahamas on the return to Florida, an offer which was well-received by more than half of the attendees. So that is how the ten-day agenda evolved, and minus any daytrip or local cruising mileage, the trip would log well over seven hundred miles of island-hopping in paradise! Here is a brief recap of how the event was managed, including the highlights!

DAY ONE- Wed Aug 6 Teams launched boats and met up at Pier 66 Resort & Marina, enjoying group discounted rates at this highly acclaimed resort that recently reopened after a five-year renovation and reconstruction. Afternoon fun run traveled north to Hillsboro Inlet and along ICW to landmark Shooters Waterfront for lunch. About six boats took part in the run, and later the group gathered at Pier 66 for event check in and captains meeting.

DAY TWO-Thurs Aug 7 Early morning dockside breakfast and 7am departure via Port Everglades. Boats were joined by the helicopter for aerial photos, as they headed out across the gulf stream. Helicopter sponsored by SEADEK. Bumpy waters slowed the pace for the 57-mile trip, then teams cleared customs at Big Game Club and later enjoyed a snorkel excursion at Sapona Shipwreck, South Bimini. Guests enjoyed a one-night stay at Resorts World Bimini, with a cocktail party sponsored by PPI, Premier Performance Interiors

DAY THREE- Fri Aug 8 Teams departed 10AM from Bimini, crossing the Bahamas Bank to Atlantis on Paradise Island. The 140-mile trip encountered numerous storm cells which split up the group, but captains relied on navigation skills and electronics to guide them to safe harbor. Atlantis gave everyone a chance to enjoy a variety of lodging choices and plenty of on-site dining options and attractions.

DAY FOUR- Sat Aug 9 This was a day that allowed attendees to do non-boating resort day at Atlantis or to take a fun run on local waters. About half of the teams opted for the fun run and enjoyed anchoring along the beautiful beaches of Rose Island.

DAY FIVE- Sun Aug 10 A morning departure from Atlantis took the group to a fun pig beach at Meeks Patch, followed by lunch at Wreckers Bar on Spanish Wells, sponsored by MERCURY RACING. After lunch it was a short 10-mile ride to Harbour Island, where Valentines Resort & Marina provided our event destination for next three nights. Nor-Tech owners Trond Schou & Bill Raisbeck joined the group along with other senior Nor-tech staff members for a cocktail party sponsored by ADVANCED MARINE GLASS.

DAY SIX- Mon Aug 11

Primarily designated as a landbased touring day, attendees rented golf carts and toured scenic Harbour Island, which offers many dining options and magnificent pink beaches. A lunch rendezvous at BLUE BAR, overlooking the beach, brought everyone together for an enjoyable non-boating day of fun. Later, the NorTech Hi Performance Boats factory team hosted an owners’ appreciation cocktail party and dinner function at Valentine’s Resort, which celebrated and honored the long-standing loyalty of the Nor-Tech owners.

Photos by: Tyler Jones; Max Jones; Stu Jones

DAY SEVEN – Tues Aug 12 Designated as a local fun run day, the activities began with a proposed lunch at Russell Island, although intense winds directed the group to an alternate protected cove along the shores of Eleuthera, where everyone enjoyed the abundance of playful sea turtles.

DAY EIGHT- Wed Aug 13 For a small number of attendees, this was a return-home day, and most got an early start for the 240-mile trek. For the extended-stay group, the day began with a stop at the sand-bar swings at Royal Island, followed by a pleasant 70-mile bluewater cruise to Elbow Cay, for lunch at Sea Spray Resort. It was then a short ride to the destination at the cozy Hopetown Inn & Marina, located in the protected waters of scenic Hopetown Harbour.

DAY NINE Thurs Aug 14- The local fun run agenda included an anchor rendezvous along the beautiful beaches of Treasure Cay, followed by a lunch outing at the landmark Nippers Beach Bar on Great Guana Cay. The festivities continued poolside at Hopetown Inn & Marina, where the group enjoyed dinner and their final evening in the Abacos.

DAY TEN – Fri Aug 15 The boats departed in two waves from Hopetown Harbour, for the scenic ride through the protected waters of the Sea of Abaco. With light winds and great boating conditions, Stu lead about half the group through the scenic, Grand Lucayan Waterway, later stopping at Grand Bahamas Yacht Club in Port Lucaya, for fuel and lunch, The entire group had returned to Fort Lauderdale by late in the afternoon, many of them staying one additional night at Pier 66, before returning home.

While this editorial feature has barely covered the surface of the many highlights of this 1st Annual Nor-Tech Owners Bahamas Run, it is certainly apparent by the amazing images from this memorable event, this was the trip-of-a-lifetime for so many in attendance. In the final tally, those attending the extended trip to Abaco with the numerous daytrips offered racked up well over nine hundred miles of powerboating in paradise for this event. More importantly, for every team in attendance, there were enjoyable, trouble-free miles of boating, and we can all thank the highly skilled team at NorTech Hi Performance Boats, for the amazing boats that have helped us to enjoy this adventure!

FASTER, FARTHER, FUNNER ! Emerald Coast 2.0!

As FPC revamps events to improve safety factors for its participants, the Emerald Coast format redirected its teams to the coastal waters of the Gulf of America, where many drivers experienced the freedom of the vast open space, pushing the throttles for some high speed fun, with many logging over 300 miles during the three day agenda!

While the landscape of performance boating constantly evolves, poker run organizers who place a high priority on the safety of participants and the boating public, must always be seeking new ways to keep events safe, without sacrificing the enjoyment for all those in attendance. The evolution of higher horsepower sterndrive and outboard engines being introduced, combined by the trend towards multi-engine outboard configurations and lighter composite hull construction materials, are the contributing factors to the new generation of recreational performance boats that are faster than ever before. The result is that certain poker run events need to be carefully scrutinized for the best and safest formats, and the Emerald Coast Poker Run was long overdue for a revamp.

Historically, the Emerald Coast Poker Run, which began back in 1993, was created for the local community to engage in a recreational boating event along protected ICW waters, attracting a roster of boats ranging from twenty to forty feet in length. With average cruising speeds under 50 mph

and top speeds in the seventy-mph range, it was manageable for event organizers to spread multiple checkpoints over a protected bay-water course, with passage through fixed bridges and small channels into a variety of residential bayous and small coves. Excessive speed was far less of a threat back in the early days, but over the years as the boats became faster and the event became more popular, registration numbers grew and soon boats were cruising at 100mph+ speeds. However, the poker run course remained unchanged, and therefore constant updates by the organizer were necessary over the last two decades.

In about 2010, the initial steps by FPC addressed a more structured course, with directional traffic patterns and slowspeed zones, combined with the introduction of a Safety Management Program in 2013, which recruited local law enforcement, first responders and fire-rescue teams to monitor and patrol the poker run course. Even with all these measures in place, it was still evident that it was time for a much-needed format change. The NEW Emerald Coast

Powerboat Week format was introduced for 2025, and the outcome provided a tremendous improvement to the safety of the event.

Primarily, with the main objective for increased safety onthe-water and reduced organizer liability, the solution was to get the powerboats into the open coastal waters of the Gulf of America. This reduced chances of collision with other boats, directed the participants away from the congestion of the largest jet ski and pontoon rental fleet in the nation, provided a deep-water course with no hard-grounding threats, and allowed the drivers to cruise at speeds most suitable for their craft.

Using Destin’s east pass to access the Gulf waters, boaters could easily access the Panama City pass just fifty miles to the east, and the Pensacola Pass just fifty miles to the west. This new program introduced three continuous days of boating that utilized these open waterways, where participants could unleash the performance of their finely tuned machines and enjoy the beautiful waters of the Emerald Coast!

The new Thursday Fun Run ventured eastbound to Panama City for a lunch rendezvous at Uncle Ernie’s, located just a few miles inside the Panama City pass. The modern, twostory eatery provided a huge guest dock, capable of rafting 30-40 boats at one time, and with indoor and outdoor seating for over 500 guests, it was the ideal destination to kick off the three-day format. Restaurant owner Sean Lyons, a powerboater himself who owns a 38 Mystic center console, seemed to thoroughly enjoy the experience, claiming it was the largest display of high-performance hardware he had ever hosted! While some participants returned to Destin on the coastal waters, many enjoyed the ride back along the protected intracoastal route, which is mostly a rural setting through scenic countryside. The Thursday format continued later with a festive Miss Emerald Coast Powerboat Week contest, sponsored by Demon Bikini and hosted at Margaritaville in Harborwalk Village. (Continuetopage:44)

Friday’s program opened with morning event check-ins at the Emerald Grande, followed by a driver’s safety meeting, where attendees were reminded of mandatory PFDs for all passengers and crew, and where the new format was outlined. The primary boating activities for the day involved a fun run to Juana’s Pagodas, with lunch sponsored by Paul Boyden Customs. Once again, the crews were encouraged to take the coastal route through the Gulf of America, which provided a fantastic outcome for so many teams. Helicopter coverage Friday was sponsored by TNT Marine Sales and featured a turbine-powered Robinson R66. Organizers did not make the coastal route mandatory, but with so many teams taking advantage of these gulf waters, several discovered a better way to enjoy the performance of their boats! The Friday program continued with the AJ’s Dock Party, featuring a hearty dinner buffet in a members-only area and offered a VIP Deck for sponsors, overlooking the colorful sponsor fleet below!

The Saturday run featured a morning “Safety Check Bonus Card” checkpoint at Destin’s east pass, which rewarded teams wearing PFDs with a bonus card for the Saturday night

poker run game! The fleet headed westbound in coastal waters with the helicopter in pursuit, sponsored by Paul Bertucci of Team Beer Money! As in previous years, the lunch was staged at Pensacola Beach Boardwalk, where three dining locations served over 325 participants. Special thanks to lunch sponsors Cody & Veronica Lovins, from Prime IV.

The Saturday festivities adopted the popular Poker Night theme, as teams arrived at the tables with two bonus cards which they had received at the safety checkpoints from the FPC Girls! With the tables in full swing for well over two hours, attendees enjoyed a dinner and the festive vibe as sponsors were recognized, and Presidents Choice awards were presented. By 10pm, the top ten teams were seated at the final poker table, a practice that is only used at the Emerald Coast event. Teams played rounds of straight poker, eliminating one player per round, with prizes and cash going to the top three winners. Congratulations to all winners and FPC thanks our eighty teams and 325 participants for joining us and supporting the new event format for Emerald Coast Powerboat Week! SJ

KING OF CLUBS Crew

One of the most popular attractions on the evening entertainment agenda is the Miss Emerald Coast Boat Week contest, which returned to Margaritaville in its Thursday night spot, with a total of eleven beautiful contestants on stage! With Demon Bikini as the new event sponsor, the judging panel established a new trend, as nine of the ten judges were women, something we have never seen in the history of this event! Once again, the contest was managed by event professional Amber Content, who incorporated the new FPC branded Demon Bikinis into the show, and featured an entire Safety segment with the contestants wearing custom Deep Impact Mustang Survival inflatable PFD’s, which were donated by club member Paul Bertucci! Congratulations to all the winners!

AJ's Oyster Bar & Grill is a landmark on Destin Harbor, and continued as the event's Official Sponsor Dock, host of the Friday Night Captains Party and providing safe harbor for almost twenty registered sponsor teams.

Noriego Point on Destin Harbor is always a popular beach hotspot for all boaters, especially during the Emerald Coast Boat Week event. In the last year a new boardwalk structure was constructed, making it easier for public access to its sandy beaches.

Saturdaay Night Awards Party

The three-day event wrapped up with the Saturday Night awards party at Margaritaville, which remained true to its roots keeping the “Poker Night” theme. All registered teams had the opportunity to gather bonus cards at the Safety Checkpoints earlier in the day, and with their standard 5-card draw, the first poker hand started with seven cards and the option to purchase more. While the poker tables stayed busy throughout the evening, organizers honored all of the sponsors and handed out close to twenty President Choice awards in a variety of categories. With a full restaurant buyout in place, the vibe was casual, and attendees had plenty of seating to enjoy a great dinner and cocktails during the festivities. By 10pm, a total of nine top hands, along with one buy-in hand, giving ten players the chance to square off at the Final Table, a tradition that is only conducted at the Emerald Coast event each year. Congratulations to Kenneth & Suzanne Rome from Louisiana who attended the Emerald Coast Boat Week event for the very first time and won the Grand Prize!

FPC Summer Poker Run Tour 2025

FIVE Events, FIVE States, THOUSANDS of Miles Traveled!

Most of us think of summertime as our chance to escape from work, take a vacation, spend time with the family, meet some new friends, and enjoy a far-away, exciting adventure! Yes, indeed that is exactly what the FPC summer tour does for the

Jones family, and summer 2025 checked off all the boxes! Here is a quick recap of the exciting events we visited and the fun people who rolled out the welcome mat to Team FPC!

1. ROCKIN’ THE HARBOR POKER RUN- Baltimore Inner Harbor

June 27-29, 2025 | Baltimore MD

Highlights: This was Jackie’s birthday weekend, so it was exciting to spend it with so many of our close friends! The event has long been on our poker run bucket list, and when Mark Fischer invited us to ride on his new Deep Impact 499, this was an easy decision. (of course, we just rode on same boat for Bahamas Poker Run two weeks earlier, so I guess we liked it!) We checked in at the Marriott Baltimore Inner Harbor, which was one of two headquarter hotels, with views overlooking the poker run marina. This was ideal because all the poker-run check-in, breakfast and dock parties were all at the same location, and this did not require cabs or driving anywhere for the entire weekend! There was a Friday fun run, and a fun dock party Friday night, then the main event Saturday covered a very scenic course thought Chesapeake Bay waterways. The checkpoints were all well-staffed, including the poker card hand-off boats, and the restaurants that hosted poker run activities, making all this a fun event on all levels! Saturday night provided a fun awards party with a big event tent, full-stage dinner buffet, poker run videos on the jumbo screen and plenty of awards! It was Big fun for everyone in attendance!

Highlights: It was the 20th anniversary of the popular North Michigan event that sells out every year, with well over 100 registered poker run teams and some highdollar horsepower! Among the highlights are the amazing turnout of spectators, both on land and on water, as visitors flock to the see the boats at the town docks, and visit the festive street party that kicks off the event with several blocks of performance boats, sports cars, big haulers and daylight well past 10PM!

CHARITY POKER RUN

Highlights: Our last visit to this event was 2023, when we had our Cigarette Top Gun Flight 1130 trailered in for the event. However, this time was much easier, as we continued our summer vacation, departing from Boyne Thunder a week earlier and catching a few days in downtown Toronto. We arrived Wednesday, checking into the 1000 Island Harbor Hotel, which was event headquarters, just in time to make the sponsor Wednesday VIP dinner cruise on a big party boat, along with event organizers and several other sponsors. Thursday was a low-key day, but it was fun watching the boats launch at the local ramp and visit Clayton’s famous Antique Boat Museum. Thursday evening featured the Main Street Party, which drew thousands of visitors and featured some cool

hardware, including Steve Perry’s Nor-Tech 400 Supersport, which we would be riding on Saturday. Friday was another free day to tour around, and we joined Steve Perry and his crew for a lunch run to Alexandria Bay! Later, I returned to the Antique Boat Museum and took a one-hour scenic ride on a vintage Hackercraft, which was the best twenty bucks I ever spent!! The Saturday poker run featured well over one hundred registered teams and traveled westbound towards Lake Ontario, and then eastbound to Alexandria Bay for the lunch stop, then continued further east along the St. Lawrence River. This is a very scenic area to tour, but the best touring can be done a on your own, at 50mph, away from the adrenaline rush of this extremely fast poker run!

Nor-Tech 390 Sport-King of

Highlights: It had been two years since we attended this event, and since the last time there was an organizational team change for the event, with FPC member Zach Martin leading the charge. It was great to get back to the scenic beauty of Lake Lanier Islands, which is perhaps one of the most turn-key poker run venues anyone could hope for, with a good boat ramp, plenty of truck & trailer parking, first class hotel and floating dock marina, all spread over a 1,200 acres of forested land. With two golf courses, horseback riding stables, RV park and summer-season water park, there are enough activities to keep any family happy here for days at a time, without ever leaving!

We arrived Thursday and got quickly acclimated, having been here about ten times over the event’s twenty-year history, and dropped the F350 off at Billy Howell Ford for some much-needed service. Meanwhile our Chinese scooter provided transportation for the rest of the weekend for Dad and Max, as we bounced between the hotel and the Port of Indecision Marina with Landshark Bar & Grill on our doorstep. Yes, we ate there three nights in a row, but Jackie wasn’t with us, so this was fair game for the boys! After launching the Nor-Tech Friday morning, it was a relaxing father-son day, as we cruised the entire lake, taking a dry run of the entire poker run course. Lunch as Skoagies on the Lake was a great experience, and by mid-afternoon we were visiting with longtime friend and former Pirates organizer, John Woodruff, who took us for a ride in his Bell Long Ranger. Hah…. Friends with helicopters=friendswithbenefits!

Saturday morning, we cranked up the adrenaline up a notch, as the poker run kicked off from Buford Dam, and Dad put the Nor-tech through the paces, driving it much harder and faster than he normally would. Not having a belly full of fuel, a cabin full of luggage, nor an overly vocal wife on board…well, let’s just say we ran the S*&#t out of the 390, and we were NOT successful at breaking anything! That was an enjoyable day on the water, and we were so happy to return to this event! Thanks to the Nor-Tech factory team for sponsoring our poker run entry, and to Zach and his team for keeping the Pirates of Lanier alive! All I can say is… AAARRRRRRRR! 4.

FUN RUN- SEPT 26-28, 2025 | Newport Beach CA to Avalon, Catalina Island, CA

If there ever was a bucket-list powerboating run, I would say the Catalina Fun Run has been on my BL since the day it began, ten years ago! So I was beyond ecstatic when FPC member Austin Carver called me up months earlier, and quite by surprise said, “Stu, I’ve always admired what you have accomplished in the powerboating world, and I would be honored to host you and Jackie on the Catalina Run this fall!” In a nano-second it was a big “YES AUSTIN!,” and a few months later we were on our way to Newport Beach, just three days after the completion of the Emerald Coast event in Destin! Within minutes of checking into the LIDO House, Austin had us joining his party for dinner at the nearby Cannery, one of a few waterfront eateries in the opulent Newport Beach hood! After meeting the crew and reconnecting with some old friends, we soon found ourselves cruising the local waters on his floating nightclub, a MTI 50V… with 87 JL Audio speakers! OH Boy, here we go! The next three days were simply amazing in every category! Unfortunately, Austin had an unforeseen family commitment which took him out of state for two days, but he left us in the capable hands of Kyle Reynolds, who we had met years earlier through the late George Argyros II. With a crew of six on board, we launched Friday morning from Newport Beach inlet, mixing with a pack of fifty powerboats for an exciting ride on the Pacific swells, and joined by familiar faces including Alex Thompson, riding on a new Cigarette 41 Night Hawk, Scot & Dustin Conrad on a Nor-Tech 390 Sport, and Brian Houchens,

on his MTI 50V! With speeds approaching 75mph on a 26mile crossing, we soon arrived at Avalon Harbor, where we took turns getting assigned to our mooring balls. Yes, Mooring Balls! While it would have been exciting to join the group for a romp around Catalina to Two Harbors for the Saturday raft up, we opted for a private three-hour jeep tour of this incredibly scenic Catalina Island, with elevations that spanned from sea level to 1,500 feet in a matter of minutes! It truly made us feel like we were on the other side of the world, and I would have to conclude, as the fifth and final stop on the 2025 FPC Summer Tour, the 10th Annual Catalina Fun Run was simply sublime! Special thanks to Austin Carver for the invitation, and to Kyle Reynolds for being a great driver and co-host! SJ

33Rd Key West POWERBOAT WEEK - Nov 4-10, 2025

Dear FPC Members, Sponsors and Attendees!

Thank you for jumping on board with Florida Powerboat Club to join us in Key West! For many of you, this is an annual pilgrimage every fall season to attend this popular event, and for others it may be the very first time to participate. Either way, we will all be together to celebrate the powerboating lifestyle at the Key West Powerboat Week event, with activities Thursday through Sunday at the Conch Republic Seafood Company, and the RWO Offshore Racing Championships as a backdrop!

Many FPC members are very much in tune with our new event formats, but for others, it is important to explain what has recently changed. Over the years and since the early 90’s, FPC has played an integral role in managing many aspects of all club events, whether they are simple fun runs with ten boats, or much larger, multi-day events with over two hundred registered teams! Over three decades, we have learned to navigate the Florida hospitality industry, securing travel certifications and lodging partnerships with major hotels and marine resorts throughout Florida, which has created a successful business model that allows us to serve a global clientele.

With that said, the climate of recreational performance boating has changed in recent years, with faster boats that can now have up to six engines, multi-function instruments at the helm, nightclub-caliber sound systems, and crew numbers that often average well over ten occupants. These factors, combined with increased speeds, have led FPC organizers to make the decision to remove our organization from the marine logistics equation completely, and focus our efforts on what best suits our business model.

Therefore, the new Key West Powerboat Week LLC, represents a clear and distinct departure from our past as a marine-event coordinator, to a new organization that focuses its efforts on being a professional event hosting company. We will continue to manage land-based venues from Miami to Key West, booking hundreds of hotel rooms, reserving transient docking, planning lunch rendezvous functions and securing the best fueling locations. And then, when you arrive in Key West, we’ll have the party started, and be ready for you and your crew to join the fun!

Thank you for trusting our team to help plan your Key West boating vacation. And remember, the USCG inland navigation rules expressly state that as the operator, it remains 100% your responsibility to boat safely, obey all rules of road, and above all, remember that the best speed, is a safe speed at all times. So please be safe, and we’ll see you in Key West!
